So now people are hypothetically saying if the movie makes $1B it's still not impressive. I understand you may just be saying it won't reach TDK status, which I agree with (I personally don't think anything ever will, for real), but it's getting a little out of hand around here

People truly do love to hate this franchise. I don't mind people hating TASM or TASM2 as movies, but people are even talking negatively on the positive things that are coming out/being said somehow

I specifically said it was still impressive but not as impressive as TDK situation as that increase was larger. I only said it because they brought up TDK.

I for one don't hate the franchise. I like TASM better than the Raimi movies. It's just good to look at both the negative and the positive sides of things. I do it with franchises I absolutely love.

Watch out...

"Biggest International opening weekend of 2014" = Complete total disaster/failure around here

Tone it down...

This movie will do well, but it still opened at No. 2 this week, being slightly beaten by Rio 2.

Was I expecting more? Frankly, yes. No need to get snippy with people because they aren't living in your bubble of optimism.

Unfortunatly this problem is a common problem. A lot of fans think that just because they didn't like First Class, ASM, or Phase 2 then the installments of 2014 will make mediocre money.

Also to those who say "well me and my mate aren't really excited for the film", you should know (I hope you know:() that the GA consists of much, much more than you and your friends.

Spider-Man hit the world in a way Blade and X-Men didn't even come close to. It did their combined box office x 2. Can't even compare.

The one thing I'll always remember is before Spider-man came out, you saw all of these nerf-herders speaking like know-it-alls about how Spider-man's costume would not translate to the big screen (an excuse often over used even today IMO) and it would have to be changed considerably for film.

They often used the X-Men movie to support the claim.

Then Spider-man came out and beat out Star Wars:AotC that year for highest grossing flick and those goof-balls had to go on and be experts in another argument.

It was glorious to see Spidey on the screen like that for the first time. I like many others had been waiting for a long, long time.

Sorry, I flew off the handlebars there..... my apologies

I just forgot your expectations were what determined a movies interpreted success or underperformance.. Thanks for bringing me out of my bubble of optimism

You're so welcome.

I think this will make good money, depending on how much the GA like it it could make 900M-1 Billion in my opinion.

There's genuine interest on this. There are a lot of excitement around this film and while it did get some negative reviews, the majority are positives, even with a lot of them claiming it's the best Spider-Man film yet.

When this gets to $1 Billion or short of that, don't tell me that this isn't impressive because so so and so. This looks like the TDK of the Spider-Man films, and if you look to the social networks, the feedback is overwhelmingly positive and growing. The film is gaining momentum, and once it's out in the US, I feel people will understand that Spider-Man films are honest to God blockbuster movie events.

Can't wait to see this movie proving the naysayers wrong, I root for this film almost as much as I root for Spider-Man the character himself. :woot:

This is not even close to being the TDK of the Spidey movies. I say that definitively after seeing it three times now.

All this talk of needing to make big box office, it's Spider-Man. There has not been a Spidey movie yet that has not made big cash. That shouldn't be a concern for anyone. Whether it makes a billion or not is a non issue. Transformers 3 made a billion and that was awful.

For now, I'll stick to my 850M prediction, but admittlingly, I wasn't basing it off of much. If it makes more, awesome.

It's the TDK of the Spider-Man movies to a lot of people and actually people I care and cherish their opinions, people I usually agree with. It's all it matters to me. :)

Ain't you the guy who's been calling it like the best superhero movie ever when you ain't even seen it?

Anyways I say it's gonna go 850 mil max, and mid 70's for RT.

Yes, I'm the guy who hopes that this is the best Spider-Man film ever and one of the best superhero films of all time. Some of my online friends here have seen it and think the same, other reviewers that I enjoy and respect a lot too.

I'd rather stick with those who think positively than keep talking about something I dread. But hey, it's not against the rules don't liking something and keep saying all day every day that you didn't liked something, so please grab a cookie and suit yourself.

But don't expect me or anyone else to play easy targets while you try to undermine the excitement that people have towards this film. No matter how hard you try, the positivity and passion that exhales from this film it's too contagious for me or anyone else here that's a true Spider-Man fan can't help but smile.

Less than 10 days.

Hey Avenging,i'm with you man, this is gonna be the best Spidey movie in every aspect!

I am open minded and I've learn since I was a young little boy to respect all kinds of opinions. While I respect anyone that doesn't like this franchise for whatever reasons, I find it very hard to feel any kind of empathy whatsoever to those who dedicate their lives trying to force their opinions over the others.

I think this will be the best Spider-Man film to date. Others who have seen and which the opinions I respect and tend to always agree with think the same.

Yes, it will. I'm not worried about that - or the tomato meter. That's the big non-issue for me. As of TASM2 I give it slim credence.
The basement for this film is the mid-$700mil. Box Office is not a worry.

Has your avatar always moved GG?

My original avatar was Spidey climbing up Oscorp in ASM when I was called RedBlueWonder. I've had a few since then but if it's the animated series GG (current one) then yea it has always turned his head.

"I'm not the Hobgoblin, I'm the Green Goblin" haha :)

I swear he didn't move before I'm tripping out ahaha!

Very cool avatar nonetheless

A reminder to everyone....if some one has an opinion about a movie that you do not agree with....you can debate it, discuss it, argue it or ignore it....but no matter how you do it, do it civilly. There is never an excuse for name calling, offensive comments, or bullying.

Will do, sir.

Whichever way you look at it, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has just posted the biggest opening of 2014. Including previews from Wednesday and Thursday last week, the superhero sequel has earned five-day takings of £9.01m, which is ahead of The Lego Movie's previews-inclusive opening tally of £8.05m. Strip out the previews, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 comes in at £6.13m, which compares with Lego's £5.9m over the Friday-to-Sunday period.

The official weekend box-office chart does not include takings for Easter Monday. However, distributor Sony reports these as £1.72m, taking Spidey's total to £10.73m for the six days.

Very good Monday for Spidey. That puts the 6 day at $18m, which is more than TASM's $17.2m. :woot:
