Well I think its going to start out as a light hearted film with comedy, but I don't think it would be anything more comedic than we've seen in the comic con footage to be honest (or any Spider-Man film even). I don't think we will get anything that would categorize this film as an "action comedy."

I think it's just that his origin is pretty dark with everybody he knows getting killed.

Everyone he loves getting killed or having bad things happen to them isn't limited to his origins, it happens a lot. People say that its dangerous to get close to Batman or Daredevil, they've got nothing on Peter in this regard. The film may start out more lighthearted. However, I think that when Electro shows up, it will get significantly darker.

Vid Electricz should write and direct a Spider-Man movie.

So Webb and co have said many times that they've embraced the lunacy of Spider-man's world for this one and have pushed the level of humor (particularly physical humor like the subway scene in ASM) to the extreme.

There will be physical comedic beats inspired by Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin. Peter's bedroom will be a rotating set.
Paul Giamatti's role in the film will also be one to play up the film's level of humor.

This prospect is both exciting and definitely makes me curious to see how it will turn out on screen. That being said, I personally found there were hit and misses in ASM's humor. The subway scene was decent enough, but felt a bit flat overall.

How you guys feel about Webb and co. embracing a more humorous and comic book aspect for ASM2, relative to how those humor beats were executed in the previous film?

I like it. The most important thing is for them to decide which way they're going to go. I like the first one, but I have my problems with it, the underlying one is that it's such a mixed bag. It isn't sure on what it wants to be, where it's going to go, and how it's going to get there. This problem was then highlighted by missing scenes and some poor editing. It didn't feel filtered through one vision.

It sounds like they''re more focused this time and have a firm idea of what they want to do - what they want it to be. It can't do everything. It can't be everything. I was disappointed when MJ was cut. Not because I'm in a hurry to see the character, but because that stuff should he spotted at script stage. They should have that sh** locked before filming. Thought they would've learned their lesson on that one. But other than that I've liked what I've heard (and what I've seen).

I feel the same way man. I agree a tiny bit about the subway scene as well, even though it's one of my favorite fun scenes.

They've explained a bunch about how they're approaching the comedic aspect to Spidey this time around, and I'm really excited for what they've got in store. All the possibilities make me excited like a kid for Xmas.

I'm expecting to see classic Spider-Man, more specifically Ultimate Spider-Man, and what I've read from his run ins with his enemies. That main core of his humor we can already see in the leaked footage where Spidey tips the canister at the fun falling at Aleksei's head (without even looking). It could be great.

I predict it's definitely gonna be a huge step up from TASM, to where people will say, "Spidey was a lot funnier this time around."

Here's a followup tweet from that guy who posted that photo of himself and Jim Carrey on the "Spider-man set" earlier in the year

"I did not meet Jim Carrey at a spiderman set. I met him at the letterman show. I didn't want people showing up so I said it was a movie set."

Concerning the comedy in this installment, I think most of that is going to stem from the early part of the movie. This is when Peter is at his most arrogant. He's still a kid and he's been winning all of his fights so that goes to his head. He starts thinking he can't be touched. But once Electro comes around and bad stuff starts happening, he won't be as cocky. Maybe in his first encounter he underestimates Electro and is still arrogant, but he won't be for long after that. There is a heavy drama factor to this film as well. Peter and Gwen's relationship might be in danger in more ways than one, Max is out for revenge with his power, Peter is trying to be friends with Harry again but will probably try to figure out what's going on with him, Norman is still dying, etc. Overall, it sounds like a Spider-man story for me. Lighthearted fun and drama should strike a balance.

Definitely. I'd still want to see him quipping and being humorous during his fights with Electro or whoever though. Not over the top of course, but more than when he fought the Lizard at school.

Arrogance would be cool to see with Garfield especially because he looked so timid in the first one. Let's just hope they don't go SM3 with it and screw everything up.

Well hopefully they learned from that mistake.

Great post.

That sounds likely, the being cocky then being humbled by Electro.

I hope they don't go full comedy like Avengers or comedy that contradicts the tone like IM3

They need the right balance at the right time

They need to do a better job with quips this time. They stressed quips for the first one and I really didn't like the ones he had. 4 Spider-Man movies without good quips, 5th time is the charm though, right?

Except for Spider-Man it's the opposite of 3rd time charm ;). I took Batman 5 films before he got an "Amazing" film. Lets hope this is true for the old web head.

I actually liked the quips in The Amazing Spider-Man.

To be honest, most of his quips and jokes in the comics are pretty lame and even godawful at times, so I'm not going to be harsh with the ones from the films.

Yea, nothing cheesy.

What good quips did he have in TASM? I went into the movie thinking we'd finally have a witty Spider-Man, came out disappointed in that sense. It's one of my gripes with the movie. TASM 2 shows a lot more confidence in Peter, hopefully the quips follow.

Carjacker,School fight, as he's zooming into kick the lizard

The quips I thought were okay in TASM.

"Really? You seriously think I'm a cop. Cop in a skin tight red and blue suit. You know, you've got a mind of a true scholar sir. I was going more for the guys that do luge."
- I think this was actually my favorite of the whole movie.

I thought the quips were good, and definitely something better than what we have gotten before. However, it's not as good as it can be. I still haven't seen the definitive Spidey on film yet.

^ Right. The fact that we got a scene with showcased quipping was good enough for me.

It wasn't good enough for me, it was one 5 minute scene in a 2 hour film. He should have done more. I don't mean just quipping either, just more talking in general. It would of been great if he talked to himself when he was going down into the sewer.
