Of course it doesn't, but if it's done for the express purpose of being eye candy (as with SM1 and TASM), then it would come off as weird for sure.

Never been a huge fan of the final swing anyway. It was fine for SM1 and it at least made sense within the story for SM2, but for TASM, it was there just because it would be cool to see Spidey do some poses from the comics (?)

Hope they don't include one for TASM2 and if they must, at least have it make sense within the story.

The final swing in TASM did have a purpose. It showed us that now he is a crimefighter (considering his Spider sense goes off and he follows sirens), and he has grown into the Spider-Man we know and love, leading into the next film.

I love the final swing, I hope they do keep it. Spidey 3 didn't have a final swing but it had a piss poor ending IMO.

Sure, but it just seems like such a strange idea to stage the final swing (which is usually exuberant, uplifting, exciting, inspiring, etc...) against the backdrop of a destroyed city. Why rub that in the audiences faces?

Are people still set on Gwen dying in this? Did I miss something?

No, I think she should die in film 3. I think many are still holding out for that.

I was joking, that would be a bad idea.
I would like to see aspects of Spider-Man Reign in a future film.
I don't think Spider-Man Reign would work on film. I read it yesterday, and didn't care for it too much (same with a similar comic called "The Dark Knight Returns).

It ccould merge with Gwen's death. She could be lying on the bed from an injury but spidey has to leave her and returns to find her dead.

No, that wouldn't work. Reign is too dark for a Spider-Man movie, and the plot would have nothing to do with the Parents or Norman Osborn. The only thing from that storyline that could be relevant is the Sinister Six.

Come on. Let's be real, eh? It didn't really show Spidey "becoming a crimefighter" or doing anything really, but swinging and posing gratuitously- because it's some cool eye candy and a nice image to leave the movie with.

What are you trying to say? Spidey 3 didn't have a final swing therefore the ending was "piss poor" or that the ending just plain sucked regardless of the final swing? The inclusion of "but" makes it unclear.

At least the ending of SM3 made sense as far as the story goes. It took a bit of restraint to end on the note it did rather than include a gratuitous, out of place final swing.

Agreed. Given the route they've chosen, this is the best bet story-wise.

Just that one scene. Just how I would want Gwen to die.

While it did look really cool, the final swing did have some greater meaning to it, whether you like it or not. It DID represent Spider-Man becoming a crime fighter and not just a vigilante when he was following those sirens.

Either way, it had just as much meaning as the final swing in SM1.

Lol Vid Final Swing is just for fun to show off CGI.

That's my point. We get a whole movie full of "fun cgi", why do we need another sequence that has nothing to do with the story tacked on at the end? Because of tradition...? I thought TASM was all about breaking away from the Raimi series?

Wait, who has said that?

Maybe. But it didn't carry any weight with it. It just seemed tacked on. A sequence like this could have been taken care of in the film somewhere (as in Ultimate Spider-Man wherein there's a great montage of him realizing his responsibility and stopping thugs, rescuing people from a fire, etc...).

And yes, the swing in SM1 was gratuitous but it gets a pass because it was the first one (and they weren't 100% positive there would be a sequel like they are nowadays).

Wait, who has said that?

I guess no one! And certainly not any of the actors, director, producers in any marketing or press material. You're right, the TASM series is all about replicating and reproducing what's come before it.

Come on now Vid you didn't like the final swing because Rami used it?

Once again, not at all what I said/implied. Read again and get back to me.

I'm reading it again and that's what your implying when I read it. Should Rami be critisised for doing the final swing again?

Of course the final swing was eye candy, and who cares? It's a classic Spiderman move and I'm glad it was in the movie. Id didn't take away from the plot since it was the film's LAST SHOT. I'm cannot believe that some people are complaining about it.

Niko Tavernise removed all his TASM2 set photos from his site. Hm.

The final swing never felt tacked on... if there was no final swing, then it would have felt like something was missing from the film.

Does anyone know if the POV shots are being used in TASM2?

Why can't the final swing be both?

He listens to the full voicemail from Uncle Ben. You see that he has inspired others as Spider-Man... Saving the crane man's son, saving the city from becoming lizards, saving doctor Connors.

There's graffiti in the streets of his symbol. People are starting to believe in him instead of wanting him arrested.

There's a feeling of motivation for Peter, he feels more like a hero. You see him watching in the streets at night. Almost as a guardian. He sees the trouble, he goes after it.

There's a difference between the final swings in SM compared to SM2 and TASM. Spider-Man is just swinging to swing in SM. For 2002 that was MAJOR eye candy with a little bit of MURICA' right at the end. In SM2 you see him leave MJ to go save the day. In TASM you see him following the cops to go save the day. I find them quite similar in that sense. To say the TASM final swing is merely eye candy is naive.

Whatever, Vid. No sense in arguing with you.

We were arguing

When? In SM2? It actually made sense in the story. The final swing in TASM is comparable to SM1. As I said, both were gratuitous (which is fine at times, btw), but SM1 gets a pardon because it was the first (and they weren't 100% sure there would be a 2nd) and they wanted to go out with a bang. Understandable.

Again, who's complaining? Discussion, debate, sure. Complaining though? It seems that anything that isn't explicitly praising TASM is concluded to be "complaining". Odd.
