It depends. If he went for the reboot and was supportive of it's approach, I wont hate on him too much (as it's what I wanted for a LOOOOONG time lol)

I'm talking about Venom here. There were no plans for Venom in SM4, from neither Sony nor Raimi.

eh... you do know Sam and Ted Raimi were the ones pinning the script right?

and that Raimi actually was the one to come up with the Vulturess idea right?

I'm talking about Venom here. There were no plans for Venom in SM4, from neither Sony nor Raimi.

to be fair raimi didn't want to use venom in first place and he was blown to pieces in SM3 so thats 2 things against bringing that character back

the point im getting at is if sony wanted to change something that would be beneficial to them they would

I had read Raimi was basically sabotaging the movie by this point due to Sony's micromanagement so it could come from that. On the other hand I wouldn't put all my stock in any of these rumours until verified by Raimi or others similarly close to the actual movie.

that's because most "news sources" take fanboy word for truth. Sam and Ted started penning 4 after 3...

and there's alot of die-hard raimi fan's (like nolanites) who refuse to believe those directors could do any wrong.


it's like the whole "the reboot happened so sony could keep the rights" eh.. no they were planning 4 anyway.. even casting. (that would have already renewed the rights if the rights were anything like FOX's contract) the film had to be in production by a certain date.

personally... i think Raimi, Kirsten, and Tobey all wanted out (none of there interviews after it got canned seemed disappointed. So i think Ted and Sam wrote a flop so sony would be forced to let them go.

those 3 didn't need the money, and i do know kirsten was very tired of it, and Sam had an unpleasant experience and backlash from 3...

By this time, IMO, that franchise had truly ran out of steam. But it's been a gues who's to blame game. I thik both are to blame.

I say it was both. But I don't think Raimi gets enough of the blame. In the end, we don't really know the true story.

People are so short sighted when it comes to changes, all you have is the name Harry and the word Venom and people decide it's the worst thing that could ever happen.

If the story is good and it's a well made film i could accept Harry becoming Spider-Man, alternatively they could pull stuff straight from the comics and it could be awful.

I'd rather see a good film than a 100% faithful one.

If they can tell an interesting, compelling and entertaining story which involves Harry being venom, go for it I say!

Raimi wanted to stick to the silver age (though there's absolutely no reason why a horror legend couldn't pull off Venom right)

that being said... it was very much Raimi's time to go... his Sandman was a waste of space, had a few good scenes, we had a few classic moments.. but Raimi had an obsession with making every one of spidey's villains tie back to peter parker to the point it was ridiculous and unbelievable. Some people... are just bad. You don't always have to sympathize with them. Sometimes you're suppose to LOVE to HATE them.

and while spider-man 2 was a great film, the back story to ock robbed lizard of his... and it wasn't needed. It didn't make ock more interesting... ock himself made ock interesting.

Both were to blame completely...

One of my friends worked on the art department of spidey 3.. and i remember him blowing a gasket and telling me how raimi picked out Harry's goblin costume... and that they actually made a black suit with the venom spider... but Raimi chose to go with the black version of the movie suit instead.

Furthermore, cheers for updating us with any info you get - the presence of some real info on this forum made it easy to completely skip the harry as venom discussion :P

As for Spider-Man 3...with the budget he had there is no excuse for not being able to make a decent film containing venom, Sandman & GG2 if those were the rules.

Sony didn't make Peter Parker dance in the street or in a bar.

It's not necessarily for the sake of it, if they're taking the best bits of two characters and using them to create a better one I don't think is too bad.

I can also understand in movie where advertising is key and screen time is at a premium not having two green goblins but still having Harry's daddy issues makes sense.

He would hate Peter naturally after the events of the previous films so that saves you a **** load of time doing brock's back story and you can still get the hate that drives venom.

Those two characters it actually makes a lot of sense to merge compared to some. Making Mac Gargan become Mac The Hunter rather than it being Kraven would be change for the sake of change, IMO this isn't that.
