Basically if I were drawing up Spidey villains to be taken down in the opening or closing credits then Rhino would be on that list. If I were drawing up villains to carry a movie or appear in S6 then Rhino would be no where NEAR that list.

That's not the same. He is a bullied guy who is taking revenge on the people who bullied him. He's not treated like he is a nobody who is irrelevant, and he's obviously not an obsessive Spider-Man fanboy either.

It's not "literally" the same thing, but it's a clear influence for the version created by Webb. A nobody who loses it after getting powers.

Really?

Where can I get these "novels"?

At this point you can only get them online (unless you are able to find them in a small book store). Here are the titles:

1) The Gathering of the Sinister Six
2) The Revenge of the Sinister Six
3) The Secret of the Sinister Six

Yall act like Andrew hasnt shaved his head before here he is at the Dr. Parnassus premiere

Then you should avoid the "redemptive" Sinister Six movie this silly franchise is setting up because Rhino is going to be a part of the Six.

He's not a nobody. He's just someone who is bullied. It's a different thing. He's even got Peter as a friend according to the character description on the show. Max Dillon in Webb's movie has no friends.

MTV's Electro is more like a version of Peter Parker. A High School geek with one friend (Harry) who gets bullied.

Thanks! :D

Are these normal novels or graphic novels? Not like it matters but y'know. lol.

ON TOPIC

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is a movie. (If I ever go off topic I'm just gonna say that to make it on topic :oldrazz:)

rhyno is and always was just a villain and a stupid one at that... you complaining about him makes no sense. they only thing that could be described as a bad and stupid really stupid move is to consider rhyno a villain in the movie and show us through the trailers and promos and tv spots that he is one in the movie..._
fun fact: spidey is box office leader for the second week in a row in my country

Fine. He was a "loser." You're looking at too many specifics.

And FYI, if you actually watch the episode, you'll see that Peter and Max weren't really friends. Peter tried to get closer to him but Max didn't care about him--he wanted to impress the fraternity and the other bullies.

And another thing, MTV Max Dillon was also very intelligent. They mention that he got the highest score on a difficult exam (can't remember what subject).

Thanks! :D

These are all regular novels, not graphic novels.

I feel like you could compare him to someone like Zsasz from BM comics. Was it a huge problem Zsasz was included in TDK trilogy but not for more than a quick scene? No. So I don't see why that should be such a gigantic problem here.

Probably would be if Zsaz was played by well known and respected actor plus advertised in the trailers and clips fairly heavily.

In the spectacular spiderman max was just a electrical technician that had an accident, in the 90s cartoon he was German and red skulls son wasn't he? I remember he was annoying and needy

There has been many different takes on him, rarely have they ever been dignified though

I'd rather have 30seconds of Rhino in any one of these movies than not see him at all. If you want a Spidey film with Rhino as the main villain, where his and PP/SM's character arcs "intertwine and influence and effect each other" like people usually like in a villain and protagonists' story, good luck not having people laugh in your face

Scarecrow in The Dark Knight is a better example. He is there as a criminal to be thwarted. Rhino is the same, neither have tons of development and neither need it to serve that role

The way I see it, Aleksei Sytsevich is a symbol for all the mobsters who get their pants taken off in broad daylight. Mobsters like him just want to make an honest living by stealing plutonium. When Spidey messes with his honest profession, Aleksei is filled with a deep-seeded emotion. In his heart of hearts, the one thing he loved doing (crashing cars with large trucks) has been ruined. So he swears revenge on the person behind it all: Spider-Man.

That enough motivation for him?

Fantastic :applaud

It seems like they combined a number of different Electro incarnations for TASM2's version.

Specifics are what define and separate things.

Alright but the point still stands. He was noticed by someone who tried to befriend him, but he was more interested on getting in with the cool crowd.

He wasn't a nobody.

Anyone wanting development for Aleksei Sytsevich doesn't know enough about the character to be making those demands.

How much development has Max Dillon had in the comic books? Why is it ok for Webb to take a villain like Electro who is as shallow as Rhino and make him a main villain, but anyone who expects Rhino to be treated as something more than just a joke cameo is being foolish to expect it?

A nobody, a loser, a geek, or whatever you want to call it, the influence from the MTV series is there. Didn't Gwen take notice of Max in TASM2 in the elevator? And didn't she recognize who he was in times square? Didn't see the film but that was shown in the trailers.

@Picard Thanks for the info! :)

Anyway.

Ock never had a wife and wasn't a sympathetic villain....

Soooooo.... do we agree that Ock was a great villain in the movies?

Yes, no? Anyway. These are the same (well not the same but you get it) changes they made to Electro for this movie.

Sometimes changes are necessary and sometimes they're not. What's important is that they work in the context of the film.

So doing a lowly, C-list character as absolutely best as you possibly can, taking even the minor characters and bringing a GREAT actor (who always dreamed to play this exact character) to do them is somehow a bad thing thing now..? I'm not buying it.

Saying that just because Rhino is a C-list villain you should bring in a C-list actor to play him is absolutely absurd. Not to mention it's already confirmed Aleksei/Rhino/Giamatti are returning

It's not really. You're comparing a bullied character to someone who just thinks he's a nobody.

Yes she did. How is that the same as someone trying to be friends with Dillon? He was just some random guy she chats with for a minute in an elevator.

That's not the same at all. Octavius was engaged in the comics. He's been in love and had girlfriends in the comics:

Giving him a wife wasn't a huge derailing of the character. Nor was him having a sympathetic angle where he saves the city. He's done that, too:

Raimi's "changes" were not as far off as some fans like to believe.

and scarecrow is a major villain in batman universe and in the nolan verse he doesnt get much development and i never read any hate or some sort of him... but then again i never read any hate from batman begins as it should have plenty of hate but another story

That's because he did get some development. Crane explains in two different scenes how he has always loved the mind's power over the body and that's why he does what he does. His fascination with Jungian archetypes. In his case a Scarecrow. How he uses Arkham Asylum to experiment on his patients.
