I was going to compliment The Joker too, but I don't want him getting a big head. :p

In the past year, I've watched Foxx in Django Unchained, TASM2, and Annie. Even though I'll never see Electro again, I hope we get to see him as another Marvel or DC character in the future.

Of course, I'll always have this moment.

Um, one of those films is CLEARLY not like the others. :o

That new Annie movie is a train wreck. A horrible update or remake or whatever you wanna call it. The performances were hideous. Cameron Diaz as Ms Hannigan should get a Razzie. Even the redone songs lacked any of the heart from the original. It's probably even worse than ASM2 though at least Annie has a plot.

I'll give Jamie Foxx this much credit for TASM2:

Even though the writing for Electro was awful, I still felt that Foxx was at least trying to make the role work. I am already not a fan of Paul Giamatti, but him as Rhino was one of the worst things I have seen in a comic book movie. Ever. And I thought Dane DeHaan's performance as Harry/Goblin so awful that I want to avoid any movie he's in. While Electro was not a good villain, at least Jamie Foxx was trying, which is more than what I can say about the other two villain actors.

Jamie was good. I didn't have any issues with his performance. And, I may actually be the only person that found Max Dillon to be entertaining. I've seen many, many people hate on the characterization of Max but I actually liked it. When I watched the movie initially my first reaction was how jarring Max's character was and how awkward it felt watching him. But then I realized the mistake I made...in ASM2, Max was never meant to be a sympathetic character. There's a reason Zimmer used the solo clarinet as the main instrument for Max's theme/melody--it's because the woodsy tone of the clarinet is such a complete contrast from the entirety of the score. I didn't feel sympathy for Max, in fact, it was very much the opposite.

The main issue I had with Max was that he wasn't explored enough as a character, he was shut away for half the movie and even when he became Electro, he felt more like a plot device rather than a real fleshed out villain. Electro never came off as threatening or menacing outside of one scene. If they would have dropped the other garbage and just focused on Max and Electro and worked in some scenes with actual depth--he could have been a much better villain. The idea of Max was interesting but unfortunately they never did anything interesting with him.

I have to agree with this, in fact I felt kinda bad for him seeing so committed to such a terrible role especially after he did such a great job in Django.

Max was a cartoon character. Both in acting and appearance. Comically bad comb over hair, gap teeth, a hundred pens stuffed in his breast pocket etc. He was like straight out of a Schumacher Batman movie.

It was such a step down for Foxx going from Django Unchained to that.

Some might argue it's too late for that :oldrazz:

Seriously thanks everyone for the compliments.

That was ALL Foxx's idea too.

I overall agree. I really don't mind the ideas behind Max/Electro's character, but the writing is what did the character and the actor no favors. I don't think Max needed to look the way he did (especially since we've seen it not work in other CBMs before, like Batman Forever and Iron Man 3), and the movie glossed over his character so much to the point where I don't know whether I'm supposed to feel sorry for him or hate him. After the fight in Times Square, the movie pretty much dropped the whole "sympathetic" storyline with pretty much no transition. And even before Max became Electro, the movie seemed as if it couldn't decide whether Max was sympathetic or some stalker dude with mental health issues. Am I supposed to feel sad about his character, to be afraid of his character, or to laugh at his character? The movie doesn't make it clear on what it wants me as a viewer to feel.

All of that said, though, Jamie Foxx did an okay job all things considered. Any problems I have with Electro have nothing to do with Jamie Foxx.

I recently watched it on tv and I'm starting to like the more emotional scenes more than the corny, playfulness. Jamie Foxx wasn't that bad. I think he was just playing the character that way. I still like him. I'll watch it again just to watch the ending, Gwen's speech was great. Emma looked so gorgeous in this one.

They could have made him into an interesting character with more depth and time devoted to him--as I liked what they had initially laid out but then they had to go all overboard with his visual presentation. The 'look' of Max was horrible. If anything, this is a fair representation of how bad ASM2 is on the whole. "Oh look at how awkwardly dressed Max is, with those crazy glasses and that ugly comb over--wow, he must be soooo awkward and weird! Am I right?" But don't give us any real insight into this very potentially interesting character, an unsympathetic villain, just shut him away for more than half the movie and dress him like a fool so that no one could possibly take him seriously.

Well, dang. I guess I do have some issues with Jamie Foxx, then. Haha.

Marc Webb really was a "yes man" to everyone involved, wasn't he?

Indeed. I remember Foxx saying in an interview that he propositioned the idea for the look of Max and Webb loved it. Go figure.

I actually dug Dane DeHaan, he's my favourite Green Goblin to date.

Dane Dehaan is worst Green Goblin. They ruin it completely. Harry being Goblin before Norman. Harry kill Gwen instead of Norman. Harry hate Spider-Man because he want a cure instead of thinking he kill his dad. He look like a troll doll with bad skin disease.

Dafoe was a great Green Goblin. He had a bad outfit, but his performance was spot on. By far the best of them in the films.

Willem Dafoe's performance as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin was fantastic. It reminded me of Jack Nicholson's Joker in the sense that I think both actors pulled off such roles so well mostly because I think they're actually pretty crazy/eccentric in real life. :funny: Trust me, that's a compliment to both actors!

I could totally be wrong about Dane DeHaan as an actor in general, but TASM2 is the only thing I've seen him in, and boy, did he leave a bad impression on me.

I liked it quite a bit, and Foxx was the primary reason. I wasn't a fan of the original and I rarely bother with musicals, but I thought the Will Stacks character was well-written and well-acted. I also liked the color touches, as with the balloons in the final scene.

At least one out of three was good. It could be worse.

I liked all three, and there have only been a handful of Western-flavored movies that I've liked.

It was time for a new type of villain after TASM1. One of my main criticisms of that film is that it went back to the Raimi formula of "Egotistical guy tries risky science experiment, turns villainous, then reverts to himself just prior to dying." That was fine for SM1 & SM2, but it felt too familiar when Webb went back to that.

Granted, Max was given his power through questionable science, but at least we finally got to see a villain who had a dark side before he was powered up. That was refreshing.

It was time for a new type of villain. So the new type of villain should be a comical cheesy caricature that's impossible to take seriously. Give me 50 more egotistic scientists turned bad over that any day. At least you're not cringing in your seat when you watch that.

That was your take on him. I liked Electro's erratic, volatile nature, but there was certainly a tragic side to him that made for a well-rounded character:

That was most people's take on him. He's one of the most criticized elements in the movie, and one of the most unpopular villains in a CBM. It's not reaching to say Sony messed up there.
