I enjoyed Rhino in TASM 2 and I'll enjoy him in TASM 3. Don't call me a hypocrite because I liked the hammy humor in TASM 2 over Raimi's series, that's my opinion and you have no right to tell me otherwise.

Same. I don't know how that makes you a hypocrite.

What else? And, are you planning on seeing the film for a second time?

I'm seeing the movie a second time next weekend probably. I think another thing that stands out that I disliked was that Harry and Peter only had like one scene together as friends before there was conflict between them.

Hypocrite!:cmad::o

See I don't have a problem with you disliking the film, it's teh fact that you need to tear down the Raimi flicks inorder to justify how good Marc Webb's films are. It almost seems like you don't have a good enough counter argument against the criticisms people have on this franchise, so you lash out on the Raimi films.

i have bashed the raimi films for years, this is nothing new for me lol, i grew up on spider-man as my favorite super hero... believe me i have zero nostalgia to the raimi films, even SM2 Which i really wanted to like and while some of it is ok it is still the first movie i seen at the cinema that left me very disappointed and angry, heck i can bring up a list of hates and criticisms for the raimi films but i won't because i get way over carried away, my dislike for them is quite passionate

but i can say this... TASM has so far been how i felt spider-man should be, now its not been without its flaws but its damn well closer to how i wanted spider-man to be for a long time

You mean for a film set in the 40's with a deliberate pastiche of that era's serials...?:funny: What does this even have to do with Cap?:dry:

i am just saying what it reminded me of

Sony, like any other studio, wants to make money. If, let's say, Disney had a very good director that delivered very good movie , but after a flop, walked away and tool his cast with him, Disney would still reboot the franchise. And that goes for ALL studios. They can certainly acknowledge the director's contributions, but that won't bring them money. A reboot will.

Rebooting the franchise does not require distancing themselves from their previous success. I think we're just going to have to agree to disagree.

They were friends, a decade prior. That's why I can accept the lapse. The friendship effectively started over again from ground level, and became one of need. Harry wanted blood, and Peter could help facilitate this. When he refused, it became another need - Electro to help out. By that stage Harry had what he wanted, anyway. But by not helping out, Pete in effect 'didn't pass the test' and the early stages of forming something again were cut off at the legs.

But that's the thing... I want to see them being friends, not hear about it. It would have just been nice to see one more scene between them showing their bond.

It is in fact hypocritical. To criticize the Raimi movies mainly on being hammy but to say it's ok for these to be hammy is in fact hypocritical. It doesn't matter if you enjoy one's take on it more so than the other, it's still ham. Webb's just happens to also have a squirt of sterotype onto his ham and cheese. Raimi like's his plain, and in subs. If I were to describe a Raimi ham and cheese with a Webb one, Raimi's would be a sub sandwich with tomatoes, lettuce, couple of other greens and a decent amount of mustard, while Webb's would be made on wheat bread with a big dab of Miracle whip in the right hand corner of the sandwich that he doesn't even bother to spread to the other side.

A flashback of them as kids, perhaps? In the present day, they were catching up, connected only by their past. Otherwise they'd really have nothing in common, no different to any another person on the street.

It's not hypocritical? It's taste... They're both hammy, I liked one more than the other.

Just because they're both hammy I either have to hate them both or love them both?

Back off dude, you're not making any sense. Just let it go.

No, but you are completely wrong for calling him a hypocrite. He felt the hamminess worked in this film and not in the Raimi films. Stop criticizing him for that.

I absolutely adore the cheese in the Raimi films. I love it, I love it, I love it.

Can't exactly say I loved the cheese in ASM2, though. It was a little weird at times.

It's a double standard, plain and simple. People on here praised the first one for avoiding the cheese of Raimi's movies, but suddenly it's okay when the second one has it? It's okay while still criticizing the cheese in Raimi's movies? Lol at least Raimi's universe was consistent, Raimi has a history in slapstick, he built his career on it, he's a master at it. Opinions can be upheld, yet criticized.

Jeezus, man. Can it. He's not being a hypocrite in the slightest and you damn well know it. Stop stirring the pot because you've had an ax to grind for this movie for weeks.

He simply prefers the cartoony vibe Webb brings over the Raimi films. It's really that simple.

It's all about execution. The execution of the cheese in both franchises is highly different. Some will prefer the Raimi take, others the Webb take. Now make like Elsa and let it go.

'Teh cheeze' is one of the things I like about Spidey flicks. I thought it was lacking in TASM.

Or maybe, just maybe... JOE prefers Webb cheese over Raimi cheese?

Is it really that hard to understand?

Oh please. The guy likes the way it was done in one series and not in another. Leave him alone and play nice.

I agree, but I do think even when Dehaan had bad dialogue, he somehow made it work. Wasn't the case for Foxx as Dillon. He just sucked start to finish. I thought the first sequence with Giamatti wasn't horrible and I was thinking to myself "yeah it is bad, but not epic bad" and THEN came the Rhino suit sequence...oh boy, THAT was awful.
My brother asked, "what movie was the Rhino in". I replied, "The same one as Electro". :funny:

Yeah, Dehaan made it work quite a bit. He had a little more real emotion and character to play with, and he took full advantage of it. I wonder what would have happened if they had a lesser actor in the role.

Aunt May was great in this movie. Totally agree. Best scene of the movie was her talking to Peter about his parents.

So much wasted.
Yeah. Too bad Aunt May didn't quite have her own complete arc. Sally Field is terrific in the role and her little moments with Garfield always resonate.

Agreed. I appreciated the grounded take on Spidey in ASM however I was missing those lighthearted, goof-ball moments that give the movie that flare.

I think that Webb is still trying to find his own "style". Truth be told, if you pick up a Spider-man comic (especially the original ones) you will see how hard it is to make a Spider-man film, because you have to capture the dark and the light side of those characters. It's not that Webb wanted to please everyone, i think he just wanted to make a good Spider-man movie. From what i've heard, it worked to an extent, so kudos to him for not sticking to only one side of the character, but trying to capture him perfectly.

However I did like the bit at the start of TASM, those students making out and Peter struggling to open his locker, for example. :funny:

Because it's something that just happened with this movie. Suddenly it's okay? Really? For the last 12 years it hasn't, but just now, concidentally with the release of this movie, it's okay? This is more of a general statement, I'm not just talking to JOE, but to a lot of people who are doing the exact same thing. If you like it, fine. But it's questionable.

For someone who doesn't like those films, you sure do spend a lot of time bashing them. It's hilarious.:funny:

But it has nothing to do with this discussion. You seriously can't compare villains who represent the 40's era where everything was black and white. This is a whole new different era man, Toby Jones was in Cap 2 as a ****ing computer and it worked without coming off as extremly cheesy. There was a german-esque scientist in MOS and he worked as well. It's all about execution, hence why the Kafka and Max scenes are being criticized as such. I laughed and didn't have a problem with it, but try and use better comparisons next time.
