Yep, I'm aware of that. But I also know that some of the execs were against the idea of a reboot and trying to keep the series going as is. That's the thing about believing emails from a hack like that. We have no idea of the context. There's thousands of emails Sony send out a year. Just because one email says something doesn't mean there aren't five more that contradict it. As of now, they're probably just spitballing ideas. Who knows what would actually make it to the big screen.

I think Amy Pascal wanted to keep Andrew, but the fact that the Sony execs are sitting around trying to figure out what to do only points to one thing: they don't know what to do! If TASM3 was happening, it would just happen. They're not just spitballing ideas for what to do with the sequels or spin-offs, they are trying to figure out if rebooting is necessary. They see their TASM franchise is no good.

Anyways, I stand by my statement. Sony's got something Marvel wants. They should be using that to their advantage instead of letting them call all the shots. Sony can still make money on Spidey without Marvel. All they have to do is lower their expectations. They thought TASM2 would make Avengers-style money, but it was never going to, no matter how good or bad it was.

That sounds more like an ego thing. Spider-Man is not much of an advantage anymore to them. TASM2 was not very profitable. The point isn't just lowering expectations for box office revenue, it's also getting a reality check: these movies are not that profitable for Sony as-is.

Yeah, I admit that. All of us are. Until we get something official, none of us really have a clue what's going on.

I want that so bad. I just don't wanna pay $300 for it, haha.

Exactly. dont get on our case about it man

and Daltonio i hear you man, this guy IS really expensive. But he's so cool!! D: his costume is like the same exact material for the real one basically

But they didn't make money. That's the thing - they've made a profitable character unprofitable, and the biggest money making part of the deal they don't own.

$700 million's great, amazing even, but when you don't make a profit (or scrape a minuscule one at best) then you know you have an issue.
Most of that $700M is foreign foreign box office revenue, and the studio only gets a small percentage of that.

Sorry, it's just that you guys seemed pretty confident that you knew Marvel weren't "fighting hard enough for him" that's all. Didn't mean to offend or anything, I just don't think we should be making such statements until we know all the facts here.

Are you taking into account Sony's current financial situation?

The Japanese tech giant is facing a $1.9 billion loss for the fiscal year that ends in March.

no problem man, it's okay. im sorry for over reacting XD
I was just saying things to add to the conversation. I just want some official news, no more of this rumor crap.

I'm sorry buddy but Sony are not in the position to be calling the shots when it comes to making a deal with Marvel Studios. They have been losing a heck of a lot of money and TASM 2 did not help with that.

Which execs? Amy Pascal...whose job is hanging by a thread? Sony is in a very tenuous position to be playing hardball like that. I can guarantee that they'll be focusing entirely on the scenario that'll give them more bang for their buck...not lowering expectations so they can keep riding the downward trend into the ground. Rebooting the franchise and getting rid of whomever will most definitely not be a deal breaker if there's a chance of increased profits for the studio. Especially since it is something that has already been under consideration at Sony.

Everyone: Yes I know about Sony's financial issues and everything else. I know they're in a tough spot.

I'm just in denial. I'll hate Marvel and Sony forever if a deal is made and we get another reboot.

So Sony made $25 million on TASM2, so for TASM which made a little more can we assume it made $30 to $35 million? So for this iteration of Spider-Man that made almost $1.5 billion and only got not even 4% of that, people are saying that Sony should tell Marvel to walk?

Would you hate them even if the movie is awesome?

Marvel should just pay Sony $25 million a year for the next 10 years. It'd be better than the profit margin, they have right now.

Sorry about that, I was being a bit dramatic.

No, I wouldn't hate them if it ends up being awesome (which it very well could be) but I'll probably always be a bit bitter about what could have been.

If Marvel makes an awesome Spider-Man film, then great.
If Marvel makes an/a okay/decent/meh Spider-Man film, then the character is not meant for the big screen for a while, lol.

For me it would be a relief if its awesome. But if it's just a boring rehash then yes I will hate them.

All five Spider-Man films are pretty much a rehash of each other. They follow the same formula with little differences here and there.

That's ok, it goes with the territory around here :cwink:

There's no point in being upset and what might have been. It's a movie. Could have been good, could have been awful. No guarantee either way.

Daltonio, if you have the time, you should definitely join my TASM comic book continuation project! It's a lot of fun

A joint deal makes the most sense for both studios. Sony gets less risk and more potential gain. Marvel gets to use Spidey in their MCU. Spider-Man movies co-produced can be inserted in the existing Phase II schedule without postponing or delay the current slate. Make a deal like this:

SPIDER-MAN SOLO MOVIES
Marvel Studios have creative control with assurances made to Sony (like they won't kill off the character)
Sony & Marvel co-produce the films (percentages TBD)
Disney markets
Sony distributes and keeps distribution fee
Sony & Marvel share in the profits (percentages TBD)
Sony maintains BluRay/DVD/Digital rights
Marvel maintains merchandizing rights

OTHER MARVEL FILMS WITH SPIDER-MAN APPEARING
Marvel Studios have creative control with assurances made to Sony (like they won't kill off the character)
Sony receives a license fee and/or percentage of the profits

This honestly sounds like a win-win for both Sony and Marvel.
