I forget when did Mac Gargan lose the symbiote, and did he return as the Scorpion in that recent Smythe story?

Yes, in the recent ASM story. He was stripped of the symbiote by SHIELD after SIEGE.

CBR posted an interview with resident Hype poster/ASM writer, Dan Slott. The focus was about the upcoming Spidey event "Ends of the Earth", which is quoting Dan,

That's what I like to hear. Spider-Island was terrific but money held me back from many of the tie-ins.

Some stunning Caselli art from the upcoming story:

I love how Doc Ock looks like a total monster these days!:yay:

Caselli's artwork is always great.

I do like how this will have the same epic scale of SPIDER-ISLAND, only will be exclusively self contained in ASM; not even a crossover with VENOM or SCARLET SPIDER were announced. This is good for a few reasons, budgets being one of them.

I'm not altogether a fan of the angle of Doc Ock falling apart, becoming a monster and dying - although it might be fun if he ever does die, if Lady Octopus will get a chance to replace him again, only without the whole "revival by ninja" thing. Ed Brubaker has proven able to effectively replace Red Skull with Sin as the new Red Skull, so why not? However, I DO like the angle of the Sinister Six being world challenging threats - akin to how they were in REVENGE OF THE SINISTER SIX when they utilized technology from another dimension as well as a giant alien monster, and Spidey had to team up with the Fantastic Four, Nova, Hulk, Sleepwalker, Ghost Rider, Deathlok, and Solo to prevail. One major difference in this new version of the Six is there's no in-fighting, which doomed prior incarnations. Usually some members were either bickering with each other or against Ock himself all the time. Vulture was often too independent, Hobgoblin and/or Kraven were often too nutty, and Sandman used to have moral pangs. I think Electro didn't used to be a fan of Ock either, but that's changed. Now Electro and Sandman are more loyal, and Ock's allied with dependable sorts like Rhino, Mysterio, and Chameleon.

Maybe he'll do something cool and live on as a killer A.I. or something....

I think the quality of the story would have been much better if they went with JMS' original idea: Peter being the father.
.

personally i feel it should have been harry, sins past gets a lot of lack, its not a great idea or a well written story but at least it tried to do something new with a character like gwen that has basically become on of the most boring and over used part of the spider-man mythos

Well, the F.A.C.A.D.E. appearance came and went in ONE panel in ASM #679... lol

Even Slott doesn't care... like the rest of us... :oldrazz:

:yay:

I was hoping for a Lance Bannon return myself but I understand a rival photographer has no real place in Spidey this day and age.

i'm reading carnage usa and while i'm enjoying it with the new marine characters are we to take it the likes of hybrid and toxin are now dead

Eh, he's just an intern for the Bugle. That makes him lower than any photographer.

The fate of Toxin was explained recently in Venom. Blackheart had Patrick killed so he could obtain the Toxin Symbiote. As for Hybrid, they explained that in issue #2 of Carnage USA...

Why is it that I see Kaine in action and get a Spider-Man 2099 vibe?

Trust me, I hate it. They actually show Phil behead Hobby (as much as I like Phil as Hobby, I think that it was stupid to kill off Kingsley), but they give us a non death for someone that was never really given a chance to shine...

Can't believe no one has posted about this yet, this was posted over on the Crawlspace:

It's nothing earth shattering. Ever since Slott set Pete up with a job at Horizon Labs, he's been making new suits left and right for different situations. It's almost become a running gag at this point. He'll be back to the original red and blue when the arc ends.

...hmmm...one, love that they used the meme spawned from the old 90s show:
"ShockeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEeeeeerrrrrr! I'll hunt you to the EEEeeeeeEEEEnnnNNNDDDDssssss or the Earth!!!!"

Second, is it just me, or just his spider, and general armor design resemble Agent Venom's a lot?

I see it too, it's the shoulder pads....it also looks pretty WoW esque...

:funny: still my favourite line from that show

At least he didn't have to build it in a cave...with a box of scraps. :o

Maybe. To me it reminded me more of the Spider-Man costume from the version in the FAR future, from like the year 2215 or something like that. The one who Mark Waid wrote in FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN a few years back, and in that one shot meeting between Spidey and Spidey 2099 in the 90's.
