The Amazing Spider-Man v.2 - Part 2

It was JMS's run that brought me back onboard after a sketchy reading career following the undoing of much of the Clone Saga. I liked Sins Past save that Gwen had consensual sex with Norman. I'd rather he have raped her and I think it could have improved the quality of the story. And even OMD started decently until that final issue or two. I think Straczynski did a great job with the book and handled the character and his cast (Aunt May and MJ anyway) better than any of the stuff I've read since (including his Avengers and guest appearances in other titles).

And for the record... his Midnight Nation was phenominal!! I self bound it I liked it so much :)

That's pretty impressive JH. How do you do that?

I send the comics to a binding company and tell them how I want it. The company I've been using has closed down and I've not sent any to another yet sadly. I might send out a couple to try out other binderies with my income tax check but we'll see. Initially it cost $15 per volume (plus shipping) but it'll be more now, around $20 or $25 I think is the closest I've seen.

That's the fun part. You can do what you want with it. I had bound 9 volumes of Spider-Man (one in that picture) containing nearly everything from the four 90's titles (Amazing, Spectacular, Web of, and Spider-Man) in readable chronological order how I want them. If I wanted to include an issue of Fantastic Four where he guest stars I can do that. If I decide that I only want half of an issue for storyline purpose then I can do that. If I want to remove as many adds, back pages, and letter pages as I can to fit more plot in, I can do that.

I love the control and you're not stuck getting whatever is in the professional trades. You make your own however you want.

Heck, I took all my Civil War and made it chronological. The first scene is the explosion from Civil War 1. This is immediately followed by the bar scene in the first Wolverine tie-in where he sees the explosion on television. That's followed by the ASM tie-in where he's sitting on the couch and the news is interupted by the update asking what a Speedball is. Then it goes to the aftermath where all the heroes are standing around helping out. And I do this for the entire Civil War event in two volumes chronoloically adding in whatever I wanted to fulfill the story. I also did this with Secret Invasion and plan to do it with Siege, War of Kings, and Thanos Imperative.

I making my own Immortal Iron Fist Vol. 3 including stuff after the series ended and doing it so that it reads as if it were an actual continuation.

IT'S FUN!!! :awesome:

Sorry, but when JR JR left, for some reason JMS's stories went off the rail. No no no no Peter being the father would NOT be better and it would be worse, having kids running around the title. And yes, the whole thing being consensual between Norman & Gwen was bad too. And I thought it was awfully contrived these kids grew so fast to be adults to confront Pete. Just an awful idea, both before and after editorial mandates.

And I have to agree with MOTB. As much as I hated the way they handled the marriage erase, it did only really effect ASM Annual 21. It did NOT erase 20 years of continuity. Kraven's Last Hunt happened. Venom and Carnage did come around. Pete's parents did return, only to be robots. The Clone Sga happened. MJ's plane still blew up. Pete & MJ did seperate only to get back together, etc. etc. The JMS erasing continuity meant EVERYTHING I read for the first time as a kid (i started in 1973) on up DID NOT happen.

CBR posted an interview with resident Hype poster/ASM writer, Dan Slott. The focus was about the upcoming Spidey event "Ends of the Earth", which is quoting Dan,

"This whole giant, epic story is taking place inside of Amazing Spider-Man." The event will be self-contained within the book and all readers will have to do is pick up "Amazing Spider-Man" to get the whole story."
That's what I like to hear. Spider-Island was terrific but money held me back from many of the tie-ins.

Some stunning Caselli art from the upcoming story:

I love how Doc Ock looks like a total monster these days!:yay:

I actually can't stand it.

This is good for two reasons. First is that for people who don't buy ASM we don't have to worry about annoying tie-ins in the books we do read. Secondly and most importantly, THIS is what I've been WANTing to see in comics for a good decade now. Self contained stories. Uncanny X-Force has been doing a self contained epic event with the Dark Angel Saga and now this. I think it's starting to catch on, thank God.

so anyone pick up carnage usa. its not bad i still think the new art style of carnage needs more black but i'm glad they are finally addressing all the dropped symbioite characters

I've not liked a single symbiote design since Ramos made Venom a blob monster.

Seems like they're doing more than have him slashy slashy kill. It was creepy seeing him and that old couple on the porch. I hope this is Cletus' renaissance.

Oh question. I never thought of this before, but is Carnage supposed to have a southern accent? I wonder this because Spidey once called him a hillbilly, the name Cletus, and also how some of his dialog has been written in the past.

I think I'm going to break my ban for the next issue only as it apparently has no Spider-Man but an all Sinister Six issue and I've been wanting an SS mini for forever now.

I'm 44 years old... what the hell do I know about being cool?

I read the Cracked article... it is what it is... a sometimes funny (because that's what Cracked Magazine is supposed to be... an attempt to make with the funnies), and a bitter comment about Marvel killing off someone's childhood wet dream at the end of 2007. :whatever: :whatever:

My "amazing" comment was more directed to you in the fact that over 4 years later, you still feel the need to show how "right" you are about your disdain towards the current direction of Spider-Man...

I didn't have to make any actual points because your post speaks for itself.

:yay:

First off walking dead doesn't deserve to be in that listing, but the superman movies and star wars really do. Secondly anyone with any taste in comics pretty much felt OMD was a travesty even if you love the outcome you have to agree the story reasoning and actions were just complete crap.

Yeah, what the heck is Walking Dead doing there? Just sounds like whoever wrote this article has a thing against the show. The Walking Dead is a freakin' amazing show and the comic is twice as amazing.

I do agree with the others. OMD as a self contained story was the most horrible comics in all of comics. However, the outcome of Brand New Day was a welcomed breath of fresh air.

The Superman and Star Wars stuff was definitely worth of being there. Just don't understand Walking Dead. Not at all.

The Walking Dead is just an average show at best. Shows like SOA, Breaking Bad, Southland and Justified are way better.

Yeah but worst mistakes in fiction? Even if you're lukewarm or don't like the show you couldn't gone with eliminating giving michael bay or uwe boll work or something that would have really improved things.

Exactly. That's what I'm combating as well. It's not the best television show on but it's definitely holding its own and is not in the same camp as OMD, Superman Returns, and the Stars Wars Prequels.

OMD is in a class of all it's own. Superman Returns at least had an homage to the Donner movies. And Star Wars I-III......? Well, at least they tried.:csad:

Where's good old "Helicopter" Dan Slott to swoop in and defend the retcon when you need him?:awesome:
