The Amazing Spider-Man v.2 - Part 2

Ummm, so what? Isn't part of the fun of reading any fiction guessing what may come next? If he's wrong he's wrong which would be the probable case for any work of fiction. I love game of thrones and I'm often wondering what will happen next. Most of my predictions are way off but part of the fun is seeing what really happens. (I do have a good one I'm fairly certain of though that seems to be coming true which is cool)

You're acting like someone's predictions are going to hurt your book or something which is just silly and without basis. If he's wrong then just show him in the story. People will only be more interested with added controversy. As long as a bad (story wise, prediction doesn't come through) then it only shows just how well you covered your true agenda. But to call someone out on their guesses especially someone that will readily admit when they've been wrong is just small. Bottom line if your skin's so thin that someone guessing where your story might go offends you enough that you have to call him out in this way (which is pretty childish considering he didn't say something like "If Dan Slott's THOUGHTS are gifts then I just wish he leave that gift wrapped and tucked away in the back of the closet" then perhaps them internets are not the place for you. Cause everyone (even you) are going to guess and hypothesize on what's going to happen in stories they're reading. If you don't like that try your hand at nonfiction.

yeah, slott doesn't seem to know how message boards work... we're all allowed to make predictions, theories, and run off on the notion and ideas of them.

You're annoyed by anything saying anything negative about ASM ever. You enjoy any positive comments about it.

Personally I like them internets and the debates that come out (why I'm here) they let you communicate ideas thoughts and feelings across national boundries with others. They can get carried away, but that too can be a lot of fun. If you don't like it, then really staying away from these boards would be your best bet.

The problem is, Dan Slott, just demonstrated that he too is one of those people that is capable of conducting himself in a childish and hypocritical manner.

Again, if this was an incorrect theory, that everyone was saying would be awesome and how much they would love to see it in ASM Dan and you wouldn't be complaining. You're being upset by people's theories and reactions to theories and only when those are not the reactions you like.

This...

and lets face it, if everyone only discussed positively and only commented on confirm news, this whole message board would shut down due to things being quite boring. People are allowed to speculate, and express there feelings towards "what if" scenerios.

Slot disrespects fans on here more than they even begin to disrespect him. We're apparently now not "allowed" to have opinions... that is, unless we're ManOfBat and have nothing but positivity to say.

Sigh.

Again, while I think it's cool one of the writers comes here to chat, again, this is why I think Dan is better off just letting his work speak for itself.

I can understand him wanting to come here to do rumor control. That makes sense. It just, he comes off as defensive.

As for this week's issue (it is ok to talk about the actual book in this thread, right? :cwink:) I am really enjoying Spider-Island. This was a fun issue. Cameos from C-listers White Rabbit & Chance and Untold villain Scorcher. JJJ freaking out about being mayor of Spider Island. And of course, what appears to be commenting on our comments on these boards of Carlie just being a knock-off or stand-in for Gwen, or a "clone" if you will. I am also interested in where they are going with MJ, particularly after seeing her sticking to the walls in that preview a while back and now actually seeing she is one of the few who doesn't have spider powers.

Remender's such a tease :awesome:

  • So we know how the Anti-Venom symbiote dies
  • Eddie sticks around
  • Seriously, as I TOLD YOU ALL, Eddie willl play a major role in Venom from this point on.
  • Flash will still stay Venom. Calm the &^(% down!

It's just the double standard, you can enjoy what you wish. Just remember we are talking about theories not the book itself and therein lies an obvious difference.

People are just as entitled to be haters as they are to be ass kissers. Again we are talking about people's feelings and opinions. I would say the problem with your something new to the table thoughts are that the "haters" as you call them are upset because marvel isn't allowing anything new to be brought to the table, they'll just reset everything. If they were doing something you absolutely hated and completely disagreed with that you thought ruined "your" childhood hero you'd be just as upset, don't deny it. You're only ok with things cause you like the status quo maintained.

It isn't well crafted negative opinion, it was a theory that was put out and what people thought of that theory. It wasn't even opinion of the book itself it was opinion of a theory that turned out incorrect. Aren't you getting a touch defensive if an incorrect theory and the opinions on the incorrect theory are upsetting you?

How anyone chooses to represent themselves is a direct statement to who they are and who they choose to be to someone else. I greatly respect anyone that can give me a good debate, moreso if they can do it in a glib and sarcastic manner since that's kinda my thing. But if you're being a little child expect to be called out on it. He was, he got called on it. Bad argument, whiny, small. That's how it came off and he was trying to put someone in their place not with argument (which I'm all for) but by just talking down to them and telling them to go away. I'm not saying he needs to be at some standard different just the same as any of us. If you act like a child and give no argument then I will call you on it. If I do the same I expect to be called on it. So if dan slott does it guess what he gets? No more, no less.

See now that's the right, or at least fair, way to take any theory despite any reaction it may receive.

Now that's a lie. Everyone, I mean everyone, get's upset by other people's opinion from time to time. You, me and apparently dan slott as well. Opinions of others matter, no one is above that. It's how you handle that when someone says something that bothers you that shows your character.

Goading? Me? Never. I just speak the truth in an eloquent, charming and awesome way. If you feel the need to respond to any counter point, well that just speaks to your excellent taste in debate partners.

And again, I also enjoy well thought out theories... I have nothiong against stillanerd... he and I have been playmates on this board for years, and I usually always enjoy his posts...

Yes, I like the new status quo, but I also understand that people hate it... an they're allowed to do so... and if people want to bring something on the table worth hating other than "JQ is a *****e for raping my childhood hero" after 3 years of hearing the same old trite... do we really want to hear it again? Sheesh...

I'm not sure why you keep bringing up the fact that I hate stillanerd's theory... but I don't. I hated all the stupidity that followed. Big difference.

Again, how people interact with each other is irrelevant to me, as long as people stay civil (to a certain extent... I like a little snide humour), and the last time I checked, I'm not Dan's mom, so I could care less what he says to people... though I think it's funny when you consider the bashing he gets from certain posters.

Truthfully, the only opinions that can get to me emotionally are from the people I care about; ie, friends and family. Though there are a handful of people on this board whom I've grown to like a lot over the last 11 years, I really could care less about most opinions I read on this board. Take that as you wish.

Golly, I was thinking the same thing about your excellent tastes...

:yay:

Not to step on Dan Slott's toes, what with me even wanting Slott as the single only writer for Spider-Man, but if he had to share the title, I would want Remender on Amazing Spider-Man, like sooooo bad.

With Remender on the title, I'm sure this will clear the 13 issue curse (or was it 12?) That new series at Marvel face. I was all over the place on his take on Punisher, but I've been loving his X-force (best place to find 616 Deadpool) and his work on Venom. He doesn't make flash "just the latest symbiote guy." I really wanna see where things go.

Hmm...
So Eddie Brock is going to be Flash Thompson's "Obi-Wan Kenobi?" That should be really interesting. :word:

BTW, speaking of these Spider-Island teasers:

I read that interview earlier tonight.... Remender is such an excellent writer... I hope he stays on Venom for a while...

If you like his work on Venom I highly suggest checking out his Fear Agent series through Dark Horse if you already aren't.

However, that teaser image of Venom # 7 is freakin' sweet I can't wait to see how that all turns out.

Good then, so you agree dan was being a *****e for jumping down his throat like that for guessing something that was hinted at in the book's own letter page. Glad we've reached that common ground.

There's plenty of other reasons to not like the current status quo, mainly cause it's recycling and treading water without progression. Peter graduated college and that for him has been basically it for about 30 years. So three years isn't much in comparison.

No, I'm bringing up the fact that you were siding with dan cause you were both annoyed by the reaction his theory had on others and their opinions on that theory. And then the fact that if it was an incorrect theory that had a positive effect both you and dan wouldn't be upset at all, which is extremely hypocritical.

I don't mind people not being civil but there is no excuse for poor logic and less so when it's shown in a hypocritical manner. That does irk me and it deserved to be addressed. Sure he get's some crap for posters but you know what? That's mainly just idiots being idiots. Some of the nonsense is so stupid it doesn't need to be addressed because the stupidity and childishness of the statement speaks for itself. I will say that most of what dan seems to choose to respond to is the LCD of commenters. Now I get why because it's very easy to show how bad a group is by addressing their LCDs. It's a common way to win debates. The problem is that it does acknowledge those commenters and make them talk more, so you get more **** cause you choose to address ****. Best way to handle people being asshats is to be clever and classy and that alone will make them look stupid to everyone and make you very cool by comparison. What dan did was instead of this he acted the child and whined in a misplaced manner and he made SAN look good and classy in comparison.

Certain comments made by anyone can hit you in a certain way. It's happened to me plenty of times, it has to have happened to you. Makes you take a step back and even though for a moment you really want to respond and crush the person you take a breath remember who you're dealing with and let it fall, but for whatever reason that comment as stupid as it was from someone who you care nothing about actually triggered some emotional reaction. Happened to me just the other week (not online), I got into a fight with some racist ******* over a stupid comment they made that I couldn't just let lie, actually I find it's easier not to be overly aggressive online because rather than just blurting something out I can read what I'm about to say and decide if it's worth saying.

Glad flash is staying as venom, sorry to hear flash is going to be on the cast. "Hey flash here's how you just completely give into bloodlust and kill innocent people". Can't see brock dying though since bendis is using him with his revengers.

Anyone else think that both Green Goblin and Venom were somewhat ruined by the BND-mindwipe? I mean, knowing Peter's secret identity was a massive part of both characters' dynamics with Spider-Man.

venom yes (especially carnage, because carnage was in space during the mindwipe), but norman..... norman logically, much like he did in the past, as well as his son harry did.... should probably easily piece 2 and 2 back together

Venom is especially compromised, because that's a big thing about what makes the character such a threat. He knows everything about Peter Parker. More than anyone would ever like to know.
And no wonder that Norman Osborn has become estranged from Spider-Man's rogues gallery. His entire archrivalry with Peter Parker is compromised because the mutual knowledge of who each other is no longer applicable.

They want to trick most into thinking he's revealing his secret ID to Carlie. I don't think they'd go there yet. It's a swerve if you ask me. Somebody is going to use the events of Spider-Island to their own twisted agenda.

moraldeficiency,
I am NOT against people making predictions. I TOO think it's fun.
Mike "stillanerd" McNulty making predictions is fun TOO-- even tho he NEVER gets it right.
What's EXTREMELY SILLY to me-- is ANYONE-- ANYONE OUT THERE AT ALL-- who still takes stillanerd's predictions SERIOUSLY-- or WORSE-- treats them as if they WERE the things we were going to do *cough* spideyboy_1111 *cough*. Because that is just plain asinine.
Mike NEVER gets this stuff right. EVER. His track record is HORRIBLE when it comes to ANY time he's gone out on a limb for a big guess. And yet people KEEP acting like he's preaching the gospel.
Mike IS that guy on the street carrying "The End is Nigh" sign, yet everyone acts like he's somehow found advanced copies of the actual scripts. It's SILLY!
I don't think the issue is simply "guessing what comes next"... but more the fact that when people present their "guesses", and then people jump all over the board thinking these "guesses" are fact, then go on and on and on and on and on an on and on ad nauseum about how these "facts" (based on guesses) are going to ruin the book at all the haters come in and join the blood frenzy.

If you go back a few pages when all the "guesses" began, you see how it quickly (and ridiculously) turns from mere guessing to full blown attacks and hate towards the book.

I just read the book, and I'm pretty annoyed with it.

:yay:
EXACTLY! Thank you.

yeah, slott doesn't seem to know how message boards work....
Oh I know HOW they work. I just don't understand how certain posters could be so frickin' blind to how they worked LAST month, the month before, and so on... And yet STILL make the same mistakes the NEXT month. It's crazy. :oldrazz:

Well it's not like I've gotten EVERYTHING wrong, Dan. I mean, I did correctly predict that Jonah was going to fire Peter during the Gauntlet. But then again, I had some "help" from a preview page of issue #625, so perhaps that doesn't really count. :cwink: But yeah, I'm the first to admit that my guesses are pretty off the wall and I definitely get proven more wrong than I am right. Still haven't lived down my incorrect guess that Carlie was going to be Menace or Jay Jameson was going to be killed in issue #600, after all. :o

They want to trick most into thinking he's revealing his secret ID to Carlie. I don't think they'd go there yet. It's a swerve if you ask me. Somebody is going to use the events of Spider-Island to their own twisted agenda.

Yeah, I'm inclined to think it's a fake-out, as well, in that maybe Peter is trying to re-affirm to himself that he's Spider-Man, especially if he ends up doing what Julia/Madame Web foretold he would do. But the idea that it's somebody else claiming to be Spider-Man to capitalize on what happened during Spider-Island is an interesting one.
