I question if you've actually read the comics.Spider Ham said:He nailed the character as he was written.
And he was written pretty much just like the comic.

TheVileOne said:He kicks ass as well which he did not in the movie. And he doesn't just drop protective ward/charms.
He didn't really give Hellboy any important information either. They made him into this prissy, intellectual scientist type. And Abe isn't a scientist.
WalkingDead said:When do these animated films come out? Are they Direct-to-DVD? Sorry if it's been said, but I scanned the thread and didn't see a release date.
Hellmistress said:They will be screened in October, I believe. Then onto DVD, and a hope that it goes to series.

Deep Six said:What about the animators from Disney's Atlantis...they were assisted by Mignola after all. Are they involved at all?

Deep Six said:Yeah, that's another thing that seems odd - Theses characters look cute, but Ron's voice is deep...so will it match the character?
Same thing for Blaire & Gilpin...dunno.
And I don't like the big eyes.
But they seem pretty acurate with their clothes.
Deep Six said:TheVileOne suggested there should be a "love triangle situation with Kate, Hellboy and Liz" & also said "there's never been Liz/Hellboy in the comics, it always hinted at Kate/Hellboy".
I agree, but Del Toro took it another way and now we're stuck with it. Don't get me wrong, I find the HB/Liz love match alright...but being a big fan of the comic, it doesn't always sit right with me.
Kate Corrigan
People have asked what other Mignola characters are in the movies. There are a couple more, some major, some minor. Kate Corrigan has a major role in the first of our movies. She's played by Peri Gilpin who I'm sure you recognize as "Roz" from FRASIER. Before the BPRD series, Kate was often overlooked by fans of the comics. But when Hellboy comes face to face with the implications of his right hand, who does it talk to? When he quits the BPRD, who does he tell? Kate Corrigan, and he tells her in a way that suggests a deeper relationship. In my opinion, if HB was going to settle down with anyone, it'd be Kate. But I doubt we'll be exploring Hellboy's romances; we'll consider the two of them just really dear friends.
Also, those of you who read all the Weird Tales will know; a few of the featured artist also hinted that there was an HB/Liz thing going on...adding on to the phenomenon. (But at least one hinted the Liz & Abe match..)
I sure hope the animated series will be adult enough to carry the name HELLBOY and explore more mature subjects...
(ie: Character relationships, big scary monsters and Nazis)
I really, REALLY think they should have Lobster Johnson in there...they MUST!!!

The cartoon characters are ok...but I'm of the ones who would have liked to see more of a Mignola-oriented design being adopted here.
I have to say - I really don't like LIZ, she looks like a 16 year old Asian girl...too far from what she looks like in the comics. She's not suppose to be "cute"!
TheVileOne said:In all the Mignola ones and the original graphic novel, there really is NOTHING going on between Hellboy and Liz. Hellboy just refers to her as one of his best friends. But he never has those deeply personal talks with Liz Sherman that he CONSTANTLY has with Kate Corrigan.

TheVileOne said:The sequel's in development purgatory right now and Del Toro is moving on to other projects at the moment. The sequel could very well get scrapped.
Hellmistress said:GdT is in the middle of finishing up Pan's Labyrinth, and his intention is to do Hellboy 2: The Golden Army next. Budgeting is the big discussion at the moment, but despite Revolution Studios' problems, I have a feeling HB2 will get off the ground this year. GdT had hellacious problems getting Pan made, and there were a number of delays at the back end of 2004, but he still got the film made - a few months late, but he did it. He's not the kind of guy to give up on a project he loves and has sweated blood over.
Don't write HB2 off just yet.

TheVileOne said:He did Hellboy though. And didn't you even post information that he might be doing something else first?
Studios being the way they are now, I question how serious they are about greenlighting a sequel.
Hellmistress said:T'wern't me. Other than he was in talks regarding Killing in Carnival Row, which I think he may just do. I DID say that I almost wouldn't mind if he did this one first, as I find the project fascinating ... but I reiterate ... almost.
As far as I know GdT has every intention to do HB2 next, and if he is foiled in this, it doesn't mean the film will never be made. It took him 7 years to get Hellboy on the big screen, and it has taken longer than that for Pan. He also has At The Mountains of Madness planned, although that one is still a ways off I reckon. But that one has been 10 years in the planning so far, so I guess it will get made eventually. He is a very tenacious fellow, thank goodness, and I'm not writing HB2 off until Guillermo says so.
