The Audience Reaction Thread

I saw the movie last nite amid a crowd of highschool-aged kids, who, judging by their reactions to film, likely knew nothing of Watchmen beyond the trailers. A handful of people were talking (not whispering, talking) during key points in the film, which also leads me to believe that they were either bored, uninterested, or had absolutely no clue what was going on. Pretty disappointed in that, but hey, it happens. By contrast however, at the theatres on opening night at The Dark Knight, the place was so quiet you could hear a pin drop--and this was before the movie even started.

You could definitely tell who had read the book or not during the scene where Laurie and Doc Manhattan are making love and you see multiple hands reach up to her face. Lots of "wtf??"s etc. Just an observation.

When the Comedian gets his *** kicked in the beginning, there were a lot of "oh ****"s, etc. Obvious reactions to stuff like that.

Both times I saw the movie, the audience could not get over Manhattan's penis. Everytime he turned around on screen there were giggles. At one point a girl in the back of the theater yelled out "PUT ON SOME CLOTHES".

Even if you ignore the fact that seeing a man with no shame on screen is shocking, this might be another reason why Dr. Manhattan's dong caused such a stir...

Ahah that's great! :D

btw got the same reaction to Doc Manhattan at my theatre. Not surprising, since the audience was mostly high-school-aged kids.

I work a theater and I was shocked at the number of little kids that went into Watchmen.

So awkward.. :p

There was this news story of a 15 year old girl on a bus, and the Driver couldnt leave the bus to piss (Or something like that). And while the girl was sleeping, the guy just pissed in a bottle. Well the girl woke up, and freaked out....

Its not like the guy was intentionly showing her his peener...but seriously...its just a penis.

blame the media, they call it taboo while constantly sticking it in our face

I went to see Watchmen at a sneak peek showing, which had only been very quietly announced one day in advance. My friend and I were at the front of the line to get in, so while we were waiting, we noticed that there were a lot of families showing up with kids of all ages. These people most likely caught word of this showing at the last minute, and figured they were going to take the kids to see something along the lines of the X-Men movies. This theater doubles as an auditorium, so there's obviously only one screen. If there's some kind of special event like this, then people are going to bring their kids to see it. The core target audience was also there in relatively large numbers, from what I could tell.

There was a fair amout of cheering during the various prison scenes, and mostly positive reactions to some other ction scenes (especially featuring Rorschach) and humorous moments. Dr. Manhattan's first shots in Vietnam drew lots of laughs...and I have to say, the choice of music seemed like it was a bit off to me, here. The alley fight also got some loud reactions. Obviously, kids were chuckling about certain things, and there was much nervous laughter and whispering during and after the sex scenes. There was no applause or anything at the end. Most people seemed visibly tired and eager to get out of the theater. The theater had a full crowd that night, but after the final scene, it emptied out very quickly. There were only maybe 5 or 6 people sticking around to watch the credits, including the two of us.

I actually had a pretty good crowd for my 3:30 pm showing today. Didn't really hear any laughter at Dr. M's junk. Laughter at all the right parts, Rohrshach was a huge hit with my crowd for the obivious reasons. Everyone seemed to really like the music as well, there was couple in front of me (prob in their 40's) and they seemed to enjoy all the historical references like in "ah ha I remember that" moments. Scattered applause at the end of the film as well, I was please.

Best moment though, a mom storming out with her child after Rohrschach chops the child killer through the skull multiple times. Priceless moment, I had to hold back my laughter.

I saw it at 7:00pm opening night, wasn't packed...i walked in 15 minutes late and the previews were still showing....wasn't hard to get a good seat either...

people were talking through the entire credits....people laughed at the sex scenes and Blue Penis, people walked out, many went to the bathroom, there was someone always walking in or out.
i can jiust feel all the people shuffle as if the flick was dragging or to long...

I don't think this movie was received well at all..

I work at a movie theater and so, I spent my entire shift walking in and out of 3 of the 4 Watchmen prints that we have, catching my favorite scenes over and over. :D

I think I watched the opening sequences about five times now. :p

One scene in particular, the cafeteria scene with Rorschach, there was one show, there were about 200 people in a 600 capacity theater. When that scene only started out, there was one guy clapping already. Obviously, it had to be one of his favorite scenes in the book. Of course, the hot fat shot itself grew a lot of reaction, but people REALLY seem to love the "You're locked in here with me!" line and it'll definitely be on the most memorable moments/lines in the movie.

I'm just waiting for all of the naked Dr. Manhattan jokes to come piling in as the year goes on. :p

Like I stated before, there are certain Abrahamic traditions that American women tend to expect from men, and Dr. Manhattan doesn't follow them...

Also, I'm surprised no-one has made any jokes about how Dr. Manhattan's balls are always blue. :p
