I'm going out on a limb here and saying that Dark Shadows doesn't do any major damage (even if it's rated PG-13) to The Avengers.

As ISEESPIDEY stated, Battleship is the one to watch out for. The film itself appears horrid but teens are drawn to that type of s**t (big explosions, hot women, robotics, CGI, etc.) It'll rake in dough just solely on the fact that Rihanna is in this firing a machine gun. God help us all...

The crowd in my theater actually cheered the trailer, and I was left speechless and disgusted by it. I honestly thought they were going to mock it.

If I had to guess I'd say Shipformers will make about 150 domestic, 300 overseas

The thing I don't get, is how Hasbro expects it to help sell the board game it has nothing to do with

They could always come up with a new version of the game that is tied to the film.

Eh, Battleship will be a total shot in the dark, though. Even though it's based on a classic boardgame, it has so little to do with it that you might as well say that Battleship is a totally new franchise. As far Rihanna's impact, I seriously doubt that'll bring in even her fans. Being a megastar in pop or rock or hip-hop rarely translates to box office gold --- when was the last time a Madonna movie ever made money?

I'm with doomsday on this one. Battleship is made to look so much like the Transformers franchise that I think it will make at least 150 mil domestic. It's like a transformers movie to hold over Transformer fans till TF4

My guess for Avengers (and I may modify this depending on how awesome the last trailer is) is 400 mil domestic 450 mil international. Still waiting to see this Disney Marketing bombardment that I keep expecting. The movie is now only about 2 months 1 week away. I think it's about time they ramped it up for their TOP franchise of the year.

But it's not Transformers. TF already had a built-in audience that had been megahyped for this movie for literally decades. Battleship comes out of nowhere, with no built-in fanbase (although lol, imagining three or four raving white-haired loonies in line bragging about their First Edition Mint Condition Milton-Bradley Battleship Sets from the 1960s), and no one knowing what to expect.

I agree with you cherokeesam, what i'm saying is that Hasbro is banking on it looking and sounding so much like transformers....although I noticed in the trailer the "aliens" look alot like Halo which is pretty cool....anyways i'm thinking the whole marketing scheme of Battleship is to follow in TF footsteps and try to cater to the same crowd. Otherwise, why even add the line "from Hasbro, the Makers of Transformers"

TBH, I think the biggest gun in Battleship's arsenal (heh) is Liam. Dude can make even a steaming pile of dung like The Grey turn into box office gold.

The Grey was actually pretty good. I didn't love it as much as other people did because the Wolves acted like Freddy Kruger instead of ya know, wolves but I still liked it overall.

I agree, other than the bloodthirsty wolves and controversy surrounding the film, The Grey was a Top 10-15 film in my book. I enjoyed the way each man reflected on their own mortality.

In my opinion though, the wolves were mere symbols of death.

I really hope Prometheus is a big hit. Well first and foremost I hope it will be a great film, i'm pretty confident it will be.

Me too. It's exciting to me as an Alien/Ridley Scott/Sci-Fi fan, and Ancient Astronaut/Alien Origin believer.

The very same teens who like explosions, aliens, robotics, CGI. etc, are the prime audience for The Avengers. They are the ones who fill the theaters for superhero movies. (Lord knows the theaters I saw the first five movies in were depressingly full of them.) The Avengers has had five successful films preceding it that resonated with this very demographic. The movie will have huge teen appeal, probably more than a movie based on a board game that most of them are not familiar with.

Battleship looks like hot garbage and everyone knows it. That movie will go down with the likes of Poseidon and Stealth.

Rihanna can fire lasers out of her ass in that movie and that still won't help it.

This has bomb written all over it.

But when was the last time Madonna was in a big action thriller?????? Look, if she does a music video for the movie (if Universal knows what's good for them, that's the best advertising they're going to get for that movie) I can see Battleship bringing in some serious dough.

But to be a serious contender for The Avengers, nah.

My horse farm is just down the street from a couple of schools. Sometimes I ride a horse down there to help with the street crossings, and I have a huge smile on my face with all of the kids, from elementary children all the way to the teenagers getting ready for college, are branding various Avengers shirts, toys and memobilia. I have to get a picture of it, but one guy has his rims on his car to look just like Captain America's shield.

Don't underestimate it.

Battleship is clearly garbage, but that won't stop anyone from seeing it though. Like I stated in my previous posts, garbage such as Transformers ROTF, Pirates 3 & 4, Pearl Harbor, Men in Black II, Twilight, The Last Airbender, 2012, Fast & Furious 2 & 3, all the Ice Age sequels, etc still made money.

...Dick Tracy...? :yay:
And Madonna did music video tie-ins that never helped movie box office in the slightest, even though the videos themselves went on to become iconic.

And there's a long history of music divas having zero impact on forgotten films besides just Madonna --- see Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears, Beyonce, Christina Milian, Kelly Clarkson, Alanis Morisette, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani....remember any of the films that they were in? ....Neither does anyone else. :woot:

Dick Tracy is not an action movie. It's more of a period piece cops and robbers type.

So Empire did a prediction in their April issue.

Reported budget: $300 Million

US opening weekend: $80 Million

US gross: $250 Million

Worldwide gross: $600 Million

Fixed for you, now that you remind me, yeah I guess people do love garbage, a great example was that last horrendous Fast & Furious movie.

I still believe this will go down the likes of Poseidon and Stealth

It was still a summer blockbuster movie.

Wow, talk about underestimating. I'm thinking 850 WW.

As Iron Stark said, it was still intended to be a blockbuster (and it failed miserably). Madonna's role, in fact, was supposed to be one of the major selling points; but instead, her no-acting self contributed heavily to the film's reputation as one of Hollywood's biggest flops.
