Prometheus isn't about the xenomorphs ("Alien" aliens) at all, though. There is a distant connection to them, but Ridley has said in many, many interviews that it's only a tenuous nod to Alien's DNA at best.

Prometheus is its own movie, and its plot remains a mystery, even with all the trailers released in recent days. It definitely focuses on an entirely different alien race than the Xenomorphs: namely, the so-called Space Jockeys. And these are humanoid (albeit giant) creatures with a VERY advanced culture and technology. They may (or may not) be good; they may (or may not) be evil; they may (or may not) be bioengineers; they may (or may not) have a direct connection to the evolution of mankind.

One thing the trailers and rumors say for certain about the Space Jockeys, though --- they've already been to Earth. And are planning to return.

Let's just hope that when it's all said and done that plot is something genuinely innovative and interesting.....rather than been there done that Von Daniken sci-fi.

My review will be up tomorrow, but something to consider is that -- while I firmly place the books in the 'young adult' category -- the film is multi demographically pleasing. I loved the hell out of it. It's a really, really solid movie with the best female protagonist I've seen since, probably Ripley.

Well I was never all that interested in Ripley either. In fact I was never able to get much into ANY of the Alien films. An antagonist who's little more than an animal and is underpinned by secondary villainy of a stock greedy corporate 'Capitalism Sucks!' bad guy(s) did little to get my juices flowing. I was always more of a Predator guy. Something about stuff happening out in space, disconnected from where we live leaves me apathetic. Same thing goes for how I look at Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, etc. They just ain't my thing. What I loved about Predator most was that it took place here and yet managed not to be a typical alien invasion film(which has been done to death). The single alien was just on a type of safari.

Prometheus ain't ringing my bell either, from the looks of it.

As excited as I am for all the other films of this summer, none of them are the avengers. This is the first of its kind. It is number one on my list

Same here, it's not even close in my opinion.

For me it's a toss up between The Avengers and The Hobbit.

For me, Prometheus has moved to #1, but Avengers is a close second. TDKR fairly close behind that in 3rd.

I'm honestly not thrilled with The Hobbit; but that goes with the books, too. I loved LOTR and The Silmarillion, but The Hobbit was just a jaunty little children's adventure imo. Looks like the movie jazzes that up quite a bit, but still not enough for me to consider it a theater view, just a DVD rental.

Prometheus, Avengers, Django Unchained, Hobbit, TDKR, ASM. In that order. Probably a few others but those are off the top of my head.

For me THE AVENGERS are waaaayyy out in front in terms of anticipation.

Then probably PROMETHEUS, TASM, The Hobbit, and Wrath of the Titans.

What is Prometheus even about anyways, it sure is receiving alot of love around these parts.

Its supposed to be a prequel to Alien. I am actually looking forward to this one as well.

Oh ok, I still don't see what could be so exciting about it though.

Agreed.

Avengers
Prometheus
Titans

Its all good.
Being a sci-fi/fantasy/mythology fan, these are all on my radar. Avengers foremost tho!

I'm not sure. lol For me I like the idea of a Samaritan type story line. The creators.......something went horribly wrong...stuff like that. :yay: Plus we find out about the space jockey from the first alien.

A combo of myth and sci-fi attracts me. :woot:

Alien is probably the most perfectly executed sci-fi movie of the past 50 years in the same vein Raiders is for the action/adventure genre and Forrest Gump is for dramas.

It really is. It's one of those movies where I wish i could travel back in time and experience it in the cinema when it first came out. Just imagine the crowd reaction at the chest burster scene when no one knew anything about it prior to watching it. Would have been such a great thing to be a part of. I think that is one big negative about the internet age. You never really go into a movie completely blind these days. Back then there was no spoilers, no leaks, not even trailers unless you saw them at the cinema whilst watching another film. Takes away some of the magic.

I see people say it's boring and it just baffles me. It's like they don't appreciate characterisation or suspense.

Alien was one of a kind when it came out, even in prescreening people were leaving the theater halfway through horrified by they saw, physically shaken if u know what I mean. It was something no one had seen before on screen. It was special for its time. Lol

haha i bet it was. I just think it'd be so cool to share that experience, that pure terror with a room full of people.

That's why I'm happy three of this summer's big movies (Avengers, Prometheus, TDKR) are forcibly maintaining a level of secrecy.

True. It just depends how strong your willpower is to stop from seeking out spoilers.

Must... resist...
