I was really underwhelmed by [popular and successful thing]. Don't see what all the hype is about.

I see what you did there

If I had a dollar for everytime I heard someone say something like that I'd be rich Whiskey.

popular and successful doesn't equate to good quality, or thought-provoking.

I'll put more stock into good word of mouth from the majority than some dude calling it 'same old, boring, heartless, spectacle over and over again'

You better watch yourself.

:woot:

That reminds me, I vote Sarah Michelle Gellar for Carol Danvers in Avengers 2!

Ok i was getting hungry until the pig lips.

On the east coast we have to make do with Five Guys. Guilty pleasure for me about once a month. I only do red meat once in a while and i usually save it for prime beef. Loved In n Out the few times ive had it, but its been a few years.

Probably some Nolanite drone. Im a fan of Nolan myself, but the ones who are obviously furious over all the Avengers acclaim/coverage/boxoffice are a special kind of *****ebag and tedious as ****. Just a guess of course.

I only bring it up because a dead giveaway are passive aggressive, unsolicited comments like Primordial Soup's. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

What sort of reaction do you reckon a man would get if he went to the [popular flying rodent-themed superhero board] and made a comment like that? I mean, not a review, or an attempt at discussion, just a drive-by one-liner mentioning how underwhelming that particular movie was? I figure it wouldn't be viewed as a very classy move at all.

I've wanted SMG as Sharon Carter for a while now, but she'd Be a great Carol Danvers. Anna Torv is my first choice for Ms. Marvel. I thought she would've made a killer Carol Ferris/Star Sapphire.

So Ebert, fanboys don't deserve decent movies?

Where does all this resentment toward fanboys come from? Critics are more respectful toward Twilight fans.

Maybe critics hate the fact that fanboy projects have taken over Hollywood and film snobs like them are forced to watch in horror year after year. lol!

It is a clear play on the line from TDK. In other words, the fanboys deserve more, even if they don't know it.

....

Some of this is starting to give me a big old headache.

To all Nolanite drones/pseudointellectuals: It's OKAY to like BOTH MOVIES. Mr. Nolan wont mind, I promise.

thanks for the review Sockin!!

Boy tell me about it. I was over on the boards and they were all going off on how "Avengers was great, but 6 days later I've pretty much forgotten about it." etc., etc.

Oh, and my husband is big on Five Guys. i'm In-N-Out. Ours is a bicostal love. :woot:

Thanks for the review from Detroit News, Sockin.

I use to be an In-N-Out guy. It was my favorite thing to eat. Then they built one in my town and now it just isn't as special as it use to be.

(and best use of a gif ever!)
Ha, thanks. I stumbled on that gif a few weeks ago and have just been waiting for the perfect opportunity to use it. I feel I made the right choice. :woot:

That could be fun. But if there's one Whedonverse alum these movies need, it's Fillion. Maybe not as Danvers, though that would be interesting. :cwink:

I live on the east coast too, and sadly, Five Guys can't even compare to In-N-Out. Elevation Burger is more of a decent substitute though, imo.

I know exactly what type of reaction they'd get, it would cause a mass hysteria of flaming and insults to his intelligence.

Its like a cult, and they dont want to become outcasts by overpraising another superhero movie, especially one thats not interested in "transcending the genre". Oh and the worst part of all is it wasnt directed by Christopher Nolan. No getting around that.

Nolan is one of my favorite directors. To me, Memento is a masterpiece, (I tend to like the early works of artists -Jaws, Terminator, the Duelists -best) but i like all his stuff.

I must investigate this Elevation Burger you speak of. Thanks.

ebert has been a reviewer for decades and views films as films, with plot, narrative, pacing, script, cinematography etc and that is how he views movies.
now I would warrent that most (all?) of us are geeks, we grew up reading comics, many of us are still reading comics and we come to these movie as fans. we want the team ups, we want the 'vs' we want to see comics brought to life on the big screen.

I totally get what ebert is saying because I was thinking the same things, the plot is flimsy, the army is generic, but as a fan I was losing it in the cinema as my heroes were togther for the first time and I got to see classic fights between heroes played out ON SCREEN. so this movie gets a 9/10 (I'm reserving the perfect 10 for the sequel) but I completely get where ebert is coming from.

And this place doesn't have cultist tendencies in the least bit. Pot, kettle, black.

Many here can't praise The Avengers without talking not so kindly about you know who and his films.
