I wonder if all of this could have been avoided if Tony and Thanos’s mother shared the same name.

I'm back from my viewing. That was amazing. I was not prepared. It's every bit as good as I wanted it to be, and then some. Good God. I am thoroughly impressed, and the thing that impressed me the most was how the different threads all collided at the end. It built up to an amazing and intense ending. Like, my heart was literally beating rapidly at the end.

Speaking of intensity, count me shocked at how far the film went at times. It had really brutal and intense sequences, really not stuff you'd expect from the typical MCU fanfare.

Another thing. The critics reactions were right. Thor and Thanos, definite standouts. You've never seen Thor like this and it really makes me wish the Russos had gotten their hands on him sooner.

Thanos is one of the best villains I have seen. He's probably second to TDK Joker in my CBM villains ranking. They gave him emotion, purpose, depth. He's not just another CGI villain, not once did I think that.

Amazing score by Silvestri, but I didn't really notice a theme for Thanos which was disappointing. But when the Avengers theme kicks in at a certain part of the film....let's just say the theater applauded and cheered. Some really gorgeous camera work, and top-notch visual effects. The colours pop. The cinematography was so good. The action sequences were amazing.

All in all, a true roller-coaster ride of emotions. Marvel was really ballsy with this one and it shows. I applaud what the Russos have done. Truly spectacular and epic.

Edit: PLEASE WATCH THIS IN IMAX 3D!

doesn't this belong in the review thread?

Something I'm still confused about is the runtime... I have 4 big theater chains near me, and they ALL have DIFFERENT runtimes for this thing...

1. 2 hrs. 29 mins.
2. 2 hrs. 30 mins.
3. 2 hrs. 36 mins.
4. 2 hrs. 40 mins.

Which one is it!?!?

Maybe some cinemas are playing it more slowly than others lol.

2h 29 mins.
Honestly i was so hooked up with the movie that i didn't notice the long run time of the movie lol.
I hope they release a 3 hours director's cut like the LOTR, because even with this run time, i still feel the film is a little short lol

My policy on Extended Cuts is give me that movie the 1st time! I am actually glad the MCU has not done that to this point and stuck by the movie they put out.

Yeah the movie breezes by. Definitely does not feel like 2 h 29 mins.

I hope you love it as much as I did man! Marvel went dark with this one and I loved it. :woot:

About 29 hours for me :csad:

What if they have an extra couple of hours of content lol (with so much stuff being covered here I think there could be a lot of unused footage)? Everybody's going to miss a major scene when they are in the toilet!

Go see it again and use the bathroom in a different scene :oldrazz:

Hope so. It's a midnight showing and I'll get back from it and get 4 hours (hopefully sleep) before leaving again for the cinema, and then have a 2-2.5 hour break before my 3rd showing. So it better damn be good as that's 9 hours of my life plus 6 walks between my house and the cinema :woot:

It's fine for the likes of us () with these films where we're happy to watch multiple times but think about those poor guys who can only watch something once. This is exactly the kind of film where I'd love a 6 hour complete cut including every bit of footage no matter how crap, whether effects work was done or not etc.

We'll see, but I hate not getting the real movie the 1st time because I love going to the movies even more than watching them at home. It's an experience (no distractions and I can get sucked into the movie more easily), so when I get the inferior version of the movie for the experience I am paying more for and value more, it bothers me.

The major (legit sounding) complaint I see (from skimming the review headlines) is that it has too much action and moves too fast from one battle to another.

This indicates to me that they did edit down the "in-between" character moments to keep the movie going. If this is truly the case then I would welcome an extended cut to add more character interaction. I am darn sure the movie has enough action and wouldn't need any more added back in.

I love the action obviously, but too many action movies end up losing the character moments because they are running long and aren't about to trim battle scenes.

What did you think of LotR and the extended versions? The theatrical cuts are the real films while the extended cuts add many scenes, some good, some not so good (which you can see why they were cut), but for hardcore fans who just want to be in that world for as long as possible it's perfect. At the same time I don't think the extended cuts (which I massively prefer) would have been ideal for the GA in cinemas as they're too long and the pacing is less appropriate for a cinema.
