I'd love to see Thanos being The Emperor Palpatine of the movie with the invaders acting as multiple Darth Vaders.

I see him more as a Thrawn than a Palpatine, though I rather preferred the stories where he's the enigmatic wildcard than the evil overlord.

I think the whole Coulson is Mahr-Vell thing is a real possibility.

Walter Lawson --> Phillip Lawson --> Phillip Coulson

Someone should check and see if 'coul' means 'law' is some foreign language.

I think it's the "Son" part we should focus on. That seems to be the common element of all of the names.

Walter Lawson --> Phillip Lawson --> Phillip Coulson --> Son of Coul --> Geheneris HelaSon Mahr-Vehl

Well, just as long as Coulson still remains a good guy, then I'd be happy with whoever he could potentially ever turn out to be if there was a character twist.

I'll say it a third time, it absolutely will not be the Inhumans.

They have no reasonable connection to the Avengers, no motivation for destroying New York/the Earth, and are too clearly defined as characters to be minor villains that will definitely not be fleshed out in any way.

Um....Crystal...??? You know, the prominent member of The Avengers....??? :awesome:

A quickie google sez: "'coul' is a measure of electricity." Son of Electricity. ZOMG SON OF COUL IS THOR'S BASTARD SON :wow:

I don't know why there is so much damn secrecy about who the villians are, especially when we are a month or two away from filming being finished? It's kind of odd, and a tad annoying when we've got people supposedly with inside knowledge but are constantly vague and coy when they discuss the subject.

I don't get why this is made out to be a national security top secret. Even Nolan revealed that Bane and Catwoman are going to be in his next Batman movie after awhile, but Marvel Studios still won't freaking tell us who the Avengers are going up against.

THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS
qft: THIS.

*Enough* with the goddam secrecy, Marvel. (Or should I say: Mar-Vell?) Seriously: what would be the harm if they flat out declared today, "Okay, the Avengers are fighting Kree. Or the Avengers are fighting Skrulls. Or Thanos. Or w/e."

My god, we already know the plot of Man of Steel with Warners' blessing; we already know the villains in TDKR; hell, we'll probably find out the villains in IM3, Thor 2, Cap 2, Dr. Strange, Luke Cage, Guardians of the Galaxy, and The Runaways before we find out who The Avengers are fighting.

WHAT is with the damn top secrecy? What does it matter? Give it up already, Marvel. And also to those supposedly "in-the-know" playing coy with the hints ---- you guys sound more like fanboys whose theories have suddenly been shot full of holes and are now trying to hedge your bets.

We'll find know everything in the fullness of time. It's better that there are some secrets, as opposed to having every plot point laid out far in advance with nothing left to discover when the film finally debuts.

For now we can just speculate like crazy. :D

I'll be happy if the Son of Coul stays a good guy and alive.

Sorry, I'll use pictures since words are clearly confusing...

All these things trace back to visual depictions of Norse gods.

You've posted fantasy art that is based on fantasy art. Vikings never had horns on their helmets, and this myth is a hard one to demystify when so many people have come to believe the fantasy over the reality.

The visual depictions you refer to belong to a bronze age neolithic people who once lived in what is now the south of Sweden. They were not the Norse. They predated the Norse by thousands of years.

Why, were you trying to be a pedantic, smart arse *****e and pull the old "Um, well, H'actually, um, the Norse warrios TECHNICALLY didn't have horned helmets, so, um TECHNICALLY, you're teh wrong!"

Actually, I'm a student of Viking culture rolling my eyes at your sarcastic post.

I've built a helmet myself, and have a shield and long scramasaex to match it, have trained with and against a variety of 6th to 12th century arms and armour, and I can't be any more clear when I say putting a pair of handlebars onto a helmet just doesn't work. The idea of a helmet is to protect the head and that's why helmets of the later Viking period, running into Norman equipment, started becoming conical - To deflect an overhead blow to one side. It doesn't help the design to add 'weapon catchers' on the sides.

I'm talking design motifs, the concept and theme of that type of armor exists and therefore is a valid 'motif' for costume design.
That armour only exists in fantasy, sorry. :woot:

Sorry for butting in. You're right, horned helmets weren't worn in battle. They were worn by priests, though, the horn signifying the piercing of the wall between worlds, and also signifying the runes ansuz and fehu. So, in a way, you're both right. Horned helmets did exist, but they were regalia.

Also, sorry for the off-topic.

I'll echo what was said up there. I'll be happy as long as Coulson is neither turned into a villain nor dies simply for the shock effect. I love the character, and I wish him a long and badass life in the MCU.

The Avengers: Apparently, Chris Hemsworth (Thor), ScarJo (Black Widow) & crew are doing some rehearsals.

I can assure you, no one is going to fight Thanos in this one, he would be preserve for a sequel.

I also wouldn't hang on every word Poni says, like he's a leaked script, because he's a comic/film/games blogger. He reports whatever he's told. He may well know what is actually happening now, but several things that have been written on DailyBlam then get debunked. I think it was only a few months ago he was telling us the Skrulls were the main bad guy, now he's downgraded it to "I told you they'd get 'mentioned'."

Show me where I posted that on my site or anywhere on else on the net. A direct link please, because those statements are full of crap.

As a matter of fact, find me ONE article on my site that's Avengers related that is both original content and has been debunked. I'll give you $1000

Finally!

Also, I leave the thread yesterday afternoon and this place explodes. Without going back through 15 pages, have we come to an agreement on who the enemies are?

No, but there's some kind of consensus about who Coulson is. Or who we want him to be. Among some of us, that is. :awesome:

The reason Coulson is in these movies is cause its a cheap way of having a consistant character in each movie to conect the universe. They would probablt love it to have been fury evertime but them you have to pay Jackson. Honestly i dont understand all the Coulson love. What has he done to be thought of as so cool. He just a standard government guy. I mean I like the Character but I dont really want him having much more then a few minutes of screen time. Less then he had in Thor Cause as far as im concerned anything he does I would prefer to see Fury Hawkeye or Black widow do

Most sci-fi/fantasy films has an anchor character that general audiences are supposed to relate to the most. A normal person who is thrust into an surrounded by craziness. Sure, people would love to be a genius futurist or super soldier but they relate more to the normal guy who's just keeping pace with them.

The Avengers: The crew is blowing some Acura cars (ah, JoinSHIELD we miss you).
