But wouldn't the Midgard Serpent be tied more into the Thor Universe. I think The Avengers films can have villains from Hulk, CAP, IM and Thor Universes, but the individual movies should stick with there villains.

The villain of the movie is primarily tied to the Thor universe, so it would make more sense. Also, IM3 is going to have more of a espionage feel, so Fin Fang Foom somehow being tied to Mandarin wouldn't make sense, since Mandarin likely needs to be altered a bit.

Why do Mandarin's rings have to be magical, like in the 616 universe? They can create a new Mandarin where his rings are powered by something more tech-based, so he can be the industrial rival of Tony Stark. If they can combine Crimson Dynamo and Whiplash together in IM2, I don't see why they must be slave to the 616 and their version. I can see that perhaps like with Howard Stark, the Mandarin was somehow able to get some source of power from the Cosmic Cube, and he used this infinite energy source to power the rings, and made them compact to fit around his fingers. This is kind of origin that can tie to the MCU, have both tech and mystic elements tied to the rings, and remain somewhat faithful to the original Mandarin.

i've always said, if they do litteral Rings on the mandarin's hands, that have power... they should be made from alien technology or asgardian magic/tech

Are we still in the dark on what the two movies Marvel has planned for 2014 are? I know there's been speculation but do we have any idea when exactly they'll be announced? I'm guessing Captain America 2 for one, but I'm dying to know what the other one will be since it'll most likely be a new property. I'm hoping for either Black Panther, Namor, or maybe Doctor Strange... heck I'll be happy with anything other than Guardians of the Galaxy.

I heard that Marvel has a Dr. Strange script floating around somewhere, so I think he has the best chance at getting his movie made. I'd love to see a BP movie but so far Marvel hasn't even mentioned his name as a possible movie. Heck, both Guardians of the Galaxy and the Inhumans got more info than him.

If an aspect of the movie involves the Mandarin as a corrupt rival businessman (in possession of alien Makluan tech) who uses high tech espionage (via Ghost and/or Spymaster) to acquire Tony Stark's advanced tech, it could work. It could also be tied in that the reason a Makluan force joined forces with LOKI was to reacquire advanced weaponry (the Mandarin's 10 rings) lost on Earth ages ago.

With skillful writing it could be done and would all tie in quite briliiantly!

Have to say that my heart is set on a NAMOR THE SUBMARINER movie. It could be breathtaking visually. But the same could be said of DR. STRANGE(with various mystical realms and mystical powers) and the BLACK PANTHER (superhero in the jungle).

MARVEL STUDIOS must have an awesome conundrum; what do you do with so many fantastic characters?!?

In a way, I'm glad Marvel doesn't have a superhero like Batman who they'd put all their resources on and ignore everyone else. They have alot of good superheroes and they aren't afraid to greenlight them into movies.

I think even if MARVEL had Batman the key point would be that there are so many awesome characters, that could translate well into live action films, that there would be no need to focus on only one.

2014 is def going to be Cap, and either Runaways/Antman/Strange ... runaways was casting and is all set to film (but got delayed by avengers), Antman just turned in it's final draft this summer, and strange has a script floating around). They're the most "ahead of the game" movies in development

What happens if WB has Marvel's superheroes? I think we'll be seeing many Spider-Man movies, maybe some X-Men and/or Iron Man movies, and not much else.

I was watching cap today and loved all the Norse mythology in it. I really like this shared universe. So like I said I'm down for any Norse creature in the avengers.

Indeed; and just to summarize things up:

1. The Cosmic Cube that Odin left in Norway (which was the site of his arrival when combating against the Frost Giants) is the place that the Red Skull infiltrated and seized in order to capture the object.

2. Howard Stark; father of Tony Stark (Iron Man) was an ally to Captain America and helped develop his arsenal.

3. The vials of blood that were taken from Steve Rogers were most likely used to create the serum that Blonsky had used in order to combat against the Hulk

4. Erik Selvig who was a part of the group that had discovered and taken Thor in during his brief time on earth is also associated with Bruce Banner; and Jane Foster supposedly works at the same university that "The Leader" does (or was it the one that Betty Ross worked at?)

5. Tony Stark used the basis and alloy of Captain America's Shield in order to create the metal for his armor.

Gotta love on how things are subtly connected to each other.

I'm not sure how I feel about a giant monster yet. Especially if all the focus will initially be on Loki and the invaders. A monster runs the risk of eclipsing everything that the film has been building up to. I just don't want it to seem crammed in there just for the sake of having it.

Did anyone see Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children? The way they handled the fight with Bahamut should be a good template for Avengers to follow, if anything just to make sure all the main focus stays on the villain at hand. All the characters had their moment in the sun in that fight, it raised the stakes and it ended in a cool, satisfying way. And then the focus shifted right back to the main antagonists without a beat.

And as for what it actually is, I guess I couldn't really care less, although Midgard Serpent would make sense.

I just don't think Fin Fang Foom would fit the feel of that movie if their goal is more espionage based. I think it would make it something else, entirely. Not to say FFF can't work in an Iron Man movie, just not one where they're emphasizing espionage.

Whoa I haven't heard that before, where was that talked about?

I think a giant monster could be a great target for Fury and his Hurricarrier to destroy, and leave the ground battles to Cap and the rest of the Avengers.

I'm hoping that this film will do a better job on not cutting out great scenes from its theatrical cut like past MCU films have done.

Hey, with a film this size, there's bound to be a decent chunk of stuff that'll get left on the cutting room floor.

True; but with any film of this proportion, I hope that great character scenes aren't cut like it was for TIH, and to a lesser extent, "Thor".
