Ugh. I loved the Cap movie so much the first time I saw it. Thought it was the best thing since Raiders. Then I saw it again, and again, and again. It gets worse every time. From the moment that secretary kisses him it spirals downward. Only redeeming parts of the second half were Peggy, Bucky and the after credits scene.

The first hour or so of TFA is right up there amongst the best for me. The origin part and characterisation of the hero is really, really well done. Chris Evans gives a fantastic performance, the best of all the Marvel leads. He really knows how to convey emotions and what he is thinking without dialogue, just with his eyes and body language. And the bittersweet ending is brilliant.

But the last act kinda falls apart and seems rushed. Also, the blatant green screen backgrounds are really distracting, especially at the Stark Expo.

It was rushed. The whole action montage was great but it felt empty.

Yes. This. Don't forget the cop out plane crash ending. That even made me smh on first viewing.

yea, i thought the montage and the train scene/buckys death shouldve both been twice as long

add a couple extra minutes of brutal cap on red skull action, and it woulda been perfect

shake/shaking my head

I agree with this completely! the first half was absolutely solid...but the second half is...ugh. Though I have a feeling it was only like that because they were worried about the running time. Still good though!

Best Superhero movie of all time? well that gotta be kickass right? :oldrazz: :hehe: joking

seriously for me it's SM2 followed by both TDK tied with Thor. Hopefully Avengers will hop up into second spot and ASM take over first....we'll see.

I hate montage action scenes and they had two in that film. If you have to use a montage to tell a narrative you've already lost creativity points in my book.

Agreed on all accounts, gentlemen.

Captain America had great potential, it just fell flat after the first act.

What bothers me the most is hearing Johnston on the commentary talk about how there was all this combat in the screenplay that was never shot & that the little that they did shoot was cut down.

The film has no third act & the second act is weak.

KickAss was great until the jetpack.
Spiderman 2 for me its good but imho I think is overrated. Yes the action was good but all that drama was boring for me. Just my opinion, maybe it has to do that I hate Tobey's Peter Parker and the fact that he always took off the mask.

Same here. I thought CA:TFA started off fantastically... but for me, the film started to fall apart right after the Nazi Spy attacked the testing laboratory.

If Snyder's the director, that's a given. :woot:

Without a doubt. He's slightly behind Bay in that department.

Snyder's visuals/SFX are always gorgeous.

I love all of Marvel Studios movies, and I rewatch them continuously, but the two with the strongest narratives are Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk. The rest, though they have great scenes and heartfelt moments, were not executed as well as they were sold to me.

My favourite comic film is TDK with X2, SM2, BB, IM & Thor all further behind roughly at the same level. TDK is the only one that features in my top 20 all-time films which is a bit of a shame. I'm hoping & expecting both Avengers & TDKR to attack the top of the list.

I see First Avenger every weekend with Thor pretty much.
It's one of my fave films

1) Agreed

2) Agreed x2

You and me, we're going places

Side note: Can anyone tell me why Doc Ock never got knocked out with Spidey punching him in the face over and over? That's what ruined the train scene for me.

I would like for someone to edit TIH with the deleted scenes in it. They give a lot of character development and makes it much more intense.

It is the main issue I've had with everything Marvel Studios has done post-2008. Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk are arguable Marvel Studios' best work and most memorable.

Bay is bigger. Snyder is more artistic without skimping on the huge set pieces. Love his style!

The thing with that action montage in TFA, I liked it, actually. Especially the part where Cap is reading a map and looking at his compass, and there is a picture of Peggy inside it. Then Steve gives this awkward glance towards the camera. That's great cinema i think.

They're my favourite CBM's, but I still have alot of problems with them. Like as above, I almost flipped the first time I saw Spidey being carried by the people in the train and "we won't tell anyone spidey" that and the dry silly jokes are the only thing that I don't like about it, but everything else made up for it. TDK is great but goes on for far too long, and Thor...well there isnt really anything I don't like about...more that they cut out too much of it... lol

Wow, we're a match made in heaven :yay:

I've always said that the studio hasn't been able to crank out films as solid as their first two.

IM was exactly what it needed to be & TIH had enough raw emotion from Norton & a structured-enough narrative to make Banner's race to find a cure incredibly satisfying on-screen.

I feel like with the 3 films after that there was less focus on individual storytelling and more focus on setting up the MCU.

Thing is, IM was a Favreau/Arad passion project & TIH was Norton creatively unchained (at his best).

With IM2, I felt (from what I heard) that Favreau was forced into the back seat of the car & Thor and Cap I just deem Avengers prequels.

Absolutely. TIH is so underrated as a character driven story. And it still features my favorite Hulk effects. I don't like cartoony lime green Hulk

Because the last time they took a risk was for IM/TIH. Now they need to play it safe to secure the investment.

Yep, which is why the only two versions of the Hulk I like are the the Bixby series and TIH. I like the Banner/Hulk dynamic much better than Hulk smashing for the hell of it.

They were.

This, American History X and The Illusionist should be enough proof that studios need to give him a project he cares about and then let him be.

That's why he didn't want to come back. He's a great filmmaker and Disney knows that (hence, Magic Kingdom)
