There were way too many studio politics going on with TIH in the edit. Most of Norton's (and the rest of the cast's) performance are there in the deleted scenes. Most of them made no sense as to why they left them out. Mainly the scenes where Banner was ducking out at Betty's place, but it wasn't actually Betty's place it was Doctor Leonard Samson's house; an actual character from the Hulk franchise who got cut like crazy in that film. The edit made it look like that was Betty's house when it was really Samson's and there were 2 really great scenes that took place there.

Still a great movie, but way too much was cut for the sake of more action. All the substance is there just not in the final cut. Kinda sad really.

This isnt directed at ant one poster, but more of 'my general feelings' on the subject of Norton -

Personally, I thought Norton was a really good Banner and, yes, its a shame that he couldnt return but that's not Ruffalo's fault [some people seemingly give him crap simply for not being Norton]. I absolutely cringed when he got that muted applause when he was introduced at Comic Con;

Until I see any reason no to, the guys going to get my complete and utter support.
I'm totally digging the Bixby vibe too.

I loved Nortons Banner - Can't see how any fan of the books wouldn't

Sceanes that stuck out for me.... him coming through the door of the restuarant - seeing Betty realizing that she had seen him....

it was without a doubt one of the better more memorable moments in any ANY Marvel film thus far that seemed to be drama - not action -drama ripped out of the pages of one of the books

Bruce Banner is naturally a quiet and subdued character; I think EN portrayed the character well.

Didn't Mark get booed at Comic Con last year when he was introduced as Bruce Banner/ Hulk? LOL that should have been a big warning sigh right there for Marvel. I really enjoyed Ed Norton in TIH and its a shame him and Marvel Studios Kevin Ferge didn't get along.
I don't believe they did, no.

Norton is not there because of money. It really didn't have to do with anything that happened on the first film. Marvel has a budget to keep and we all know Downey is getting the Lion's share of salary on this film and deservedly so. Now you and I might think it's rediculous what these actors make for a comic book movie, but they make what they make, and if someone offered you 7 million dollars to be in a comic book adaptation, I doubt anyone would turn it down.

I would have loved to see Norton in this film, mostly to see he and Downey work together. But TIH while it was not the bomb that Ang Lee's film was, it also wasn't a huge success like the Iron Man films.

I think Ruffalo was a great choice for the roll, and seeing how this is following a mixture of the 616 and Ultimate comics, I think he's a great choice to fill that Banner who has to work with these other characters. It's going to be a different take on the Character than Norton had, but that's fine. This is a different movie.

I'm extremely excited for this movie, people were hooting and hollering durring the trailer with Hunger Games, so it's going to be a huge event film, the could potentially break records. At this point I hope it's a huge success both critically and financially.

110% agree!

I think THG's huge, recording-breaking weekend may be a sign that people are very excited about movies this year, and they'll be looking for huge tentpole blockbusters like TA to quench their thirst for more. THG has led the way for the Class of 2012 and hopefully it will set the trend for the rest of the year.

Could you elaborate? And what's your source of info (if you can say)?

Glad to hear about the response to THE AVENGERS trailer!

It's a good sign for the potential of later films this year for sure.

Ehhh i think a large part of THG's success was pure curiosity, rather than actual interest or excitement.

It's all over the news, in magazines etc. People are bound to be like "Well let's go see it to see what the fuss is about".

We'll soon see. If it has big drops then yea i think my theory is probably correct. If it has smaller drops then obviously a lot of people really liked it beyond just casual curiosity.

Im looking forward to Mark's performance but I will miss Norton. To me he was great as Banner. He looked like him and he definitely nailed the part (specially in the deleted scenes).
I hope someone did a Norton's cut of TIH because it would be an entirely dfferent film :csad:

Oh, and having read the last couple of pages - about this supposed 'death'. What if it's not actually a death per se, but simply the metamorphosis of one character to another, with the 'death' simply being that we wont see that character [as we've come to know them] again?

I'm thinking [BLACKOUT]Coulson becomes Marv-ell[/BLACKOUT], given those rumours from a couple of months back.

I'm just gonna put this whole response in a spoiler tag.

Though I would love to see that happen for the most part. Seeing Marv-ell on film would be cool and a great surprise for the Avengers, not to mention that I dig Clark Gregg playing him. I'm wondering though, couldn't that potentially break the character of Coulson? Could he still have dry humour and be Marv-ell or would that be dropped altogether? I'm all for more depth being added to Coulson, but I think the aspects that we the audience generally love about him shouldn't be dropped either.

Edit: can't really say the "Butler did it" Jarvis is a computer...yet not Ultron yet :D

Just gonna hijack this so I can re-voice my opinion on Jarvis/Ultron/Vision in future Avengers movies. I would be up for them using the Jarvis programme (or at least some version of it) in constructing Ultron and Vision. I just really want to see Paul Betthany as Vision really, I'm not bothered if he plays dual roles as Ultron/Vision or just Vision himself. Besides they pretty much have to rework people's origins for a movie adaptation and I don't see them using Wonder Man anytime soon, so the Jarvis programme might be a good stand in for his brain.

I had no idea they're using an entire suit again for some scenes. Thought they'd be doing it like they were in IM2. Guess Whedon thought the full suit looks much better than making it partially and then filling it out with CGI.

Going back to what worked best.

What do you mean by that, are you saying IM looked better in the first film than he did in the second one?

I don't think curiosity is a large part of that. The books were already popular before the movie adaptation came about. It's the current fad amongst teenagers, except it actually has substance (unlike that other teenage fad ....).

It's also very relevant to the current zeitgeist:

*class inequality
*the unreality of "reality television"
*media's fascination with violence
*a critique of kooky contrived cheesy romances
*sending young people from the poorest part of the country to die in battle

Yes, I like the Hunger Games for what they are. No, I am not a teenage girl.

That being said, us comic book fans shouldn't be insecure that Hunger Games is breaking records. Avengers and TDKR will surely kick ass in the box office.

I think it might depend on what the scene calls for, because they did also do the partial suit. In the EW article from last September it mentions:

http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20532978,00.html
"Robert Downey Jr. struts onto the set of The Avengers wearing a gray bodysuit and boots and the bulky torso of his Iron Man armor. It's too hard to move in the full outfit, so the robotic limbs are often added digitally later."
So for some scenes they're probably able to use the full suit, for scenes where they need RDJ to have easier freedom of movement, they do the partial

I like the shot of Whedon carrying the shield

Background cut out of the first back. Second darked because it was a background for a site.
