I don't see why you guys can't think out of the box, with effort MODOK could EASILY be a great on screen villain. Do you have no imagination or vision?

Eh, it's the same old 'can't be done' arguments you once heard about Captain America's suit, or Asgard being a giant rock floating in space, or a bunch of other things the audience supposedly wouldn't buy because it's too comic booky.

Until such time as MS pulls it off, and then it'll be 'Wow Modok was creepy and awesome, I always knew it'd work!'

If Thor's armor were six sizes too small for him and extended from his waist, I could see your point.

Maybe if they do something similar to Kuato from Total Recall, enhanced with cybernetic implants... something like that.

I bet you don't want to see Rocket Raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy either do you? I've been waiting forever to get great interpretations of these kinds of characters on screen. The closest thing we have is Tomar-Re from Green Lantern who I thought was translated to the screen perfectly.

I hope Marvel Studios doesn't think the same way these guys do. I wouldn't think so since Kevin has mentioned Rocky twice when talking about the GotG movie

For the record, I'm not saying he can't be adapted. I'm simply saying that he needs a major overhaul.

Agreed

I don't understand why MODOK can't be on the big screen. I can't stand when people say a,b,c can't work because of x,y,z. When you do something like MODOK you have to embrace the awkward, weird, freaky, and crazy look of the character. You have to embrace that it looks out of place and have to play up that angle. You write a script around it with that in mind. You intentionally use him to shock and disturb your audience.

Isn't that what Josh Whedon did with The Avengers. You have a Viking God that fights with a Hammer, a World War 2 Super Solider that fight with a Shield, an Assassin/Marksman that uses a bow and arrow and they're telling me something can't be done.

FYI - Personally i hate MODOK's Guts and i hope they never use him. I just hate when people say you can't do something when it obviously can be done. The question isn't can it be done. The question how do you execute it.

I don't think anybody's said it's impossible, just that it's difficult to translate in a way that will appeal to most people.

Serious question: what is the purpose of his feet?

There isn't one really, his head is so swollen his body can't support the weight. hence the chair. But presumably he can still dangle then in the AIM swimming pool at night, or use them to wipe up dropped dollops of mayo in the kitchen when making a sandwich. I'd just as soon keep them as cut them off if it was me.

MODOK is envious of Captain America's perfection so my guess is he still wants to be as human as possible.

I hope he does make one of the films. He doesn't have to be the main bad guy... have him working with someone just like Arnim Zola in the first Captain America. These are comic films, they can handle having a few strange beings in them, or what is the point?

It's not that difficult. If I had any kind of drawing skills I could come up with a concept in a couple hours. It's all about willingness. If Marvel Studios is too lazy to shrug off the idea that a character like MODOK could be brought to the screen then why call yourself the house of ideas?

Do you guys also think that Arnim Zola couldn't be translated to the big screen as is?\

As I said before I completely disagree. major overhaul = why bother?

I suppose it depends on how much you value the look of the character over the character themselves. With someone like MODOK, you'd have a huge mountain to climb just to get the audience to take him seriously if you keep him the way he is, I don't care how scary you make his face look. He's still got midget arms and legs sticking out of his head.

Is it just his limbs that are the sticking point? Because that seems to be a weird thing to balk on when discussing a giant swollen telepathic laser blasting head in an armored hoverchair.

I suppose you could remove the limbs entirely, or substitute some robot appendages or something. But personally I'd leave them, maybe show them all pasty and unhealthy and atrophied to enhance the squick factor.

BTW i think Modok as a tv screen instead of the gigantic head would look too much like robocop 2 personally...for me it's all in his teeth; they need to have many many teeth in his huge evil grin to pull it off in the creepy "don't touch me; what the hell are you" kind of way and also go way oversized like in the image below...like he should be around 20ft and hooked up to alot of machinery and just when you think he is just hardwired...boom he disconnects and comes after you

Arnim Zola looks like he can fight... and apparently that is all that matters in a film. So yea... he could work.

Seems most people are upset about his tiny arms/legs,

I never said he couldn't use an update, but a complete overhaul is unnecessary. Change a couple things here and there and fine tune the rest and there you go. It's the same approach with every comic book character, which is why I find it so puzzling that people think MODOK is any different.

.like he should be around 20ft and hooked up to alot of machinery and just when you think he is just hardwired...boom he disconnects and comes after you

That's exactly how I imagine him, being embedded in this huge block of machinery and computer consoles and then in a shower of sparks and broken cables he unsockets himself. And yeah, lots of unnatural teeth and milky or white eyes. brrr!

MODOK is different because his look is extreme.
It's like saying you could have Howard the Duck in Avengers 2 and nobody should think it was weird.

Krang could have been easily intergarted into a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.

I got it! Modok on the big screen should be like a T-Rex...Huge and encumbering, scary because he looks like he could eat you if you get too close, but also to add to his arsenal basically whoever would have to fight him on his own turf where he could telepathically/electronically control devices/traps in and around where the fight takes place. wth, it's worth a shot

It's easy to make him a physical and intellectual threat if they make him bigger obviously.
