As a SW fan I just wanted to say that Vader had no reason to come back -to the planet that had him slaved- once his mother died. Hell, he (and the emperor) left the planet to the gangsters and didn't want anything to do with it. Besides Vader didn't know if his son survived and the ones who wanted to keep his name were Owen and Beru.
Also Ben Kenobi was watching him.

It doesn't matter at all.

Look, if you have to hide someone from the mafia in the real world, would you do this:

"Yes, he is the son of a big mafia boss. But the mafia boss doesn't know that he still lives. Nevertheless, we have to hide him.
So let's put the boy in the town where the mafia boss grew up himself. Earth is so big with so many towns. And besides, the mafia boss doesn't search for his son.
So the boy could keep his dad's (unusual) last name. Since the father doesn't look for him, there is no risk at all for the boy in keeping this name.
Oh, and I have an even better idea. Someone should watch over the boy. So we put a policeman in the neighbourhood. How about officer Obi-Wan Kenobi? Yeah, he could change his name from Obi-Wan Kenobi to Ben Kenobi and no one will ever notice. Earth is very, very big. No one will notice."

Come on, that is foolish. When you have to hide some, you would take no risks. There is no reason why Luke should keep his father's family name. He gets nothing from it, it can only put him in danger.

If he kept his last name, than they would leave a trace someone could find. That is an unnecessary risk. And if Obi-Wan, the guy who should watch over Luke, keeps his last name too, then this is an additional risk.

Report: "Yeah, there is a boy at the right age named Skywalker. And in the neighborhood lives an old guy called Kenobi. The Skywalker boy lives with that farmer family where Anakin Skywalker's mother lived."

Come on, how many traces do they want to leave??? Of course, they could also just put a big sign there at the farm, saying "Here lives Luke Skywalker, son of Anakin Skywalker who is also Darth Vader. We don't mind telling you that because we know that Vader doesn't search for his son, so there is no danger." :woot:

Sorry guys, this is bad writing on Lucas' part.

Theoretically yes but in terms of the actual threat that the film's third act would contain they're essentially the same

Yep, right down to them nifty sky chariots the mooks fly around on.

I just read somewhere that marvel and fox BOTH have the right to use scarlet witch and quicksilver in their movies. I could care less about quicksilver, but I hope someone at marvel has contacted Eva Greens agent. A guy can dream anyway.

I thought we agreed she'd make a great enchatress?

Agree! Now that that's settled they can get to work on a good Kang story. :)

Kang's my 2nd choice for A2 with Ultron being first, I'd be happy with either as long as Kang's attack is different from the invasion angle of TA.

I'd love Ultron, but you couldn't do it without Pym.

I'd think a reimagining of "Sturm und Drang" with just Black Panther and Namor might be cool. Wakanda and Atlantis embroiled in a superhuman cold war with the rest of the world caught in the middle.

Geez man you couldn't be more wrong, they knew Vader wouldn't come looking because he thought his kids were dead. They don't have to worry about him sensing them because he isn't looking for them. Theres no point in changing his name if he isn't in any danger. If danger were to come thats why Obi Wan is there, Obi Wan is basically living in the mountains, its not like he has a home address or anything.

Hot dayum TDKR trailer w/ the Avengers huh, who would have thunk it! Seems like WB is trying to get them some of that MCU pie haha

Plus this is a Galaxy we are talking about, Tatooine is a planet like Earth and the reason they hid Luke on Tatooine is Vader vowed never to return there after his mother died. They kept the Skywalker name so that he'd have a sense of identity for when the time came.

I've decided to post my 1000th post on this thread. I love you guys! it was this thread that made me join. Group hug!

I think Avengers will snowball into The Dark Knight Returns increasing there ticket sales. I only hope that it doesn't have that "Sweet Donut and Sweeten Coffee" effect on the movie. Where the action is to sweet in the Avengers(Donut) that when we go to see The Dark Knight Returns(Coffee) that the action seem meh. It's funny if the The Dark Knight Returns was coming out first the same thing would be said but only it would be about wither the acting and story telling in Avengers lived up to The Dark Knight Returns. I can't wait to see both.

I'm looking at Kang and Immortus and the Crosstime Army in the Eternity War in "Avengers Forever" and wondering how the hell that is "essentially the same third act" as a Chitauri invasion.

I hope Avengers completely knocks Dark Knight out the park. I hope that Avengers's tickets sales are like the sun, and TDK Pluto. I hope that everyone forgets TDK and Avengers is remembered as the greats.
....I love The Avengers....

I agree to an extent, I hope The Avengers takes more tickets but mostly I'm hoping it will be remembered as a classic.

I'd love to see reports on the news of people in line around the block waiting to go into theatres.

And then TDKR reclaims the throne. :p

I don't get this DC -v- Marvel hostility, it seems to be a US thing.

Oh jeez, man...

There are enough threads talking about TDKR in THIS forum. Can we please not here?

Posters should have the common sense in the first place so not to refer to Batman films when talking about The Avengers.
