The Avengers The Avengers Post Screening Review & Discussion Thread (SPOILER FILLED) - Part 5

Question

Was Loki manipulating Thor during the clash with Iron Man and Captain America in the forest?

It seemed as though Thor was more aggressive than he normally would be, such as when he screams "you want me to put the hammer down!!!!?"

I think Thor was just emotional. He's always had a temper.

So this film is the best comic book movie ever.

Very enjoyable 2 hour romp but for me, it's not even the best Marvel Studios film.

I did not see purple I saw red and then blue

Maybe my eyes turned into a prism....maybe i am becoming a superhero! :wow:

<<<<<<<<<<< Prism Man :woot:

or maybe thats what happens when you watch an online bootleg. :o

TDK deserves most of the praise it gets. I disagree with it's current status as a deity, however.

I agree to this statement.

I agree too

Jak? I think this may just be the first time i've seen you show your love for anything.

I know that's exactly what I was thinking, now I'm absolutely POSITIVE that I'm going to love this film. :woot:

Out of curiousity, what do you think is then?

IMO of course. :yay:

Pure entertainment wise, Iron Man is the best Marvel have offered.

In terms of an all round good film, it'd be Thor for me. Nicely paced so when the big scenes come (for example, Thor sacrificing himself to get rid of The Destroyer), there's a great pay off. I punched the air when Thor got his powers back and was a great moment. I didn't really feel like there was any moments like that in The Avengers.

Good action, good acting and most importantly for me, the film had heart and I felt engaged by it. It ticked all the boxes for me.

In terms of what the two films tried to achieve, and how successful they were in achieving it, I'd actually place The Avengers above TDK.
I think Avengers is VERY successful at achieving what it set out to do.

My preference for TDK, BB and SM2 have to do with the themes at play, psychological aspects, etc. They give me more to think about and are a more fulfilling experience.

Personally, I think that any superhero film that comes out and makes it in my top10 CBM List is successful. The competition in that list has become harder and harder in recent years.

I like Spider-Man 3 too :woot:

Wait, I hope you mean Spider-Man 3 and not Superman 3 right?

TDK almost wins because of how seriously it took the material and really pulled it off in those scenes. It also has Heath's legendary performance going for it. But the film lets itself down because in the end, it's still a Batman movie, and the third act gets a little comic-booky, which clashes with the other, more crime drama-esque scenes.

The Avengers is consistent throughout. Yes, it is easier to pull off a comic-booky feel consistently, but it also had the added hurdle of juggling so many characters, and it does that brilliantly.

BB is pretty much on the same level as Iron Man, a well-told standard origin story.

I saw this movie and I found it very enjoyable. Though it has it's flaws and for me (and in my opinion only) it is not the best superhero movie of all time. I rank it below TDK and Spiderman 2. The action is great but really the boards I felt a little empty. I thought it was going to completely blow me away. I think the best parts of the movie is when they are all talking together in the lab. Oh and the person who everyone says died I believe did not die at all...Remember the conversation Fury had with Maria Hill when she talks to him about the trading cards...What was it that Fury said? Remember??? Think about it....I won't spoil it for anyone though.

I agree that the lab scene is one of the best parts of the movie. But it is precisely that scene which makes the big action scene at the end have a bigger payoff.

Question: in the two times I've seen the movie (two different theater rooms), I thought that the sound mixing was a bit weird. I always thought it lacked impact, like some sound effects were muffled, like when Fury and Hill
are shooting their guns on the helicarrier
, that kind of thing. Now maybe, that was the sound volume which I thought was not high enough, but it was fine in the last battle scene, but not as punchy and dynamic as I hoped it would be, like when Thor fights IM, when he punches him, with his fists, or hammer, it doesnt feel like that big of an impact.

But hey, I guess it was just the sound volume, it should be better on BR.

I like Spider-Man 3 too :woot:

Wait, I hope you mean Spider-Man 3 and not Superman 3 right?

Holy monkey! Yes I meant Spiderman2. Fixed that right away! Thanks ;)

But the film lets itself down because in the end, it's still a Batman movie, and the third act gets a little comic-booky, which clashes with the other, more crime drama-esque scenes.
With Jokers boat sequence, yes, but everything after Joker decides to blow up the boats himself, to me is pure gold.

I... I have to ask... why or how it's comic booky?

Absolutely. It handled the characters very well, not perfectly, but much better than I thought.

damn so I am still the only Spider-Man 3 fan? :csad:

BOOOO all the Sandman and Venom haters :oldrazz:

I liked Spider-Man 3 as well, it has quite a number of flaws but in my opinion it receives WAY too much flack.

I agree too

lmao! Is that you Cap?

I agree to this as well sir :)

The whole cell-phone sonar thing. Batman running around with glowing blue eyes. Two-Face's entire look, which I liked as a comic fan, but was out of place in the grounded environment. It didn't need to be that grotesque.

There are moments outside of the third act too, like "Oh that's really not good!"
