The bad start of summer 2010

The movie i've enjoyed the most so far has been kick-ass. Iron Man 2 was kind of disappointing , it wasn't bad it just didn't have the umph I would expect from a squeal
I haven't seen robin hood and prince of persia

I also wonder why people care so much about numbers? geez if you like the movie than you like the movie , why worry if other people haven't gone out to see it

If you want a sequel to the movie, then the BO matters.

What the hell are you talking about??

The teeny bopper crowd are the ones that are into Twilight right now. TDK may have made a **** ton of money which means it was seen by a **** ton of people but it didn't have some teeny bopper following.

The film doesn't need to be rated R to be good but I hope Nolan doesn't focus the camera on bodies that have been shot and have no blood stains on their clothes. I would rather any and all characters that get shot, get shot off screen than have that. They got away with blood in IM and some other PG-13 films. Blood isn't needed but it does look stupid when someone gets fired upon like the bank manager in TDK and he's on the ground with no signs of actually being hit by anything.
That pisses me off too. Also the interrogation scene where Joker is getting repeatedly punched in the face really hard by Batman and no blood. But that scene is so awesome that it doesn't really matter too much.

Also The Dark Knight is definitely hard PG-13, it just had mature content but there was no real reason for it to be rated R aside from maybe the noose scene

Isn't it amusing that the box office has been saved by a remake of The Karate Kid?

How much did it make? I figured The A-Team was a sure win for this week's haul

Just wait another couple of weeks. The double punch of "Toy Story 3" and (groan)..."Twilight" will be like a shot of adrenaline to the box office.

But I was thinking today...if the box office turnout continues to be poor this summer (because, let's face it, after 4th of July weekend, there's practically nothing big coming out), will movie ticket prices FINALLY start to drop?

Probably not....Karate Kid is looking at about 56 or 57 mil for the weekend, it was originally projected for 30-35 mil

Get Him to the Greek is playing the long game and racking up decent numbers weekend after weekend, same seems to be with Shrek

but Toy Story is coming and Disney is about to be the 500 lb gorilla going sickhouse on everyone

I confess I am going to see Twilight opening night out of sheer morbid curiosity. I didn't see the first two, but it's starting to get to me.

don't do it terry, I know the theaters are filled with nubile glittery vulnerable white wimmen but you ca.....

wait....I must conduct further research

yeah dont do it TLA is coming out same weekend best to see that it looks epic and no melodramatic romance lol

but its filled with crackas.....I don't recall no crackas in the cartoon

Meh to both of those. If I had the choice between "The Last Airbender" and "Eclipse", I'd just say screw it, hop into the next theater to see "Toy Story 3" again.

I would never go to a Twilight movie on opening night or weekend. I'll do it in the middle of the week when no one can see me. :o

Anytime I go see a movie that's meant for a demographic other than myself, I just tell them I'm reviewing it for my website or university paper. :awesome:

The only motivation I can think of going into OW for Twilight, maybe do the hairdo like a Pattinson or Lautner, wear I tight shirt if you are confident with your build, and hope there are some horny girls walking out of the theatre... legal of course. Unless high school girls are your M.O and you aren't 21 or older. Then again, I am sure you will run into some MILF's if that's your thing since quite a few also seem to be into it.

Summer 2010 started well (IM2 FTW), but the only other movies that will be good are Toy Story 3 & Inception.

Joker's pencil trick

Two Face burnt face

IMO it's really a miracle that they got an PG-13 rating.

This a BO discussion thread after all

Also i was just reading the weekend report at JOBLO. Aside from IM2 and Shrek 4 , no other movie has broken the 100 million mark.
IMO that is pretty bad

Is the international market becoming more important than the domestic market?

As a source of revenue it is becoming more and more important.
But i think the bond franchise may be the only franchise that isn't dependant on the domestic numbers to greenlight movies. Hell Goldeneye was the bond movie that finally succeeded in the states. After that the bond movies became more succesful.

But there have been many other movies that have underperformed in the states but performed very well in international markets. Several sword and sandal pics in fact . Yet the decision to greenlight a sequel have so far been because the dom. numbers. If that wasn't the case we'd have gotten a Troy sequel long ago. Ditto PoP

Karate Kid remake

Karate Kid remake with Jackie Chan and Will Smith's son

calling it a great movie of the summer........PRICELESS :lmao:

I haven't seen it yet (Karate Kid), but it seems to be doing OK, both critically and financially....not my type of film but if it does well, that's what the studio wants

that's because most people today are a freaking joke, so of course a movie that has "joke" stamped in red on it is going to do well

I remember telling my family about the remake back at a christmas party this past December. Me, my 2 nephews, my brother in law, my brother and my sister all face palmed ourselves

really? and people are actually eating this up?

Now that solves the mystery as to what's been going on with movies this summer. People's brain cells depleted, so movies that SHOULD be doing good are flopping, while movies that should be flopping are doing good
