Is Iris dad a detective in the comics, too?Seems a strange coincidence that the love interest in Arrow is also the daughter of a detective.

Lets hope it's not a case of deja vu with the fans calling for Iris demise the way the Laurel haters have.:hehe:

the best thing DC can do is to focus more on preexisting characters that aren't white. Instead of changing ethnicities for the sake of diversity, focus more on already existing minority characters. I'm not a fan of random race changes

I agree and I wish I could just walk into DC and bring these characters to the forefront. Marvel does a great job with it. I friggin' love Luke Cage and when people mention Marvel's upper echelon of characters Black Panther is almost always brought up. DC tends to make these bland minority characters that feel like someone just required them to make them. I just can't get into Cyborg, Black Lightning, or John Stewart (I've yet to try Mr. Terrific).

On the other hand it bothers me a lot less when a white character is changed into a minority than when a minority is changed to a white character. If a white character becomes a minority, that makes like, what, 6 minority characters then compared to the bajillion white characters? I love Wally West as a ginger and think that in itself makes him pretty unique (and it matches his costume pretty well) but changing him to another race doesn't take any skin off of my nose (so long as he doesn't walk in talking like a stereotype. Then it's time to get offended).

If I can read the character's lines without any previous knowledge of his race and still know that that's Wally I'm reading then I'm happy. Whatever race he turns out to be, bring it on.

Sadly the problem is that for whatever reason solo black superhero comics not based on an existing hero don't seem to sell or aren't given much of a chance. I'm not sure why exactly be because team books featuring original black heroes sell well enough.

Even the most high profile black superheroes that aren't from a pre-existing white counter-parts like Black Panther, Falcon, Vixen, Black Lightning, Luke Cage ,Cyborg, Blade, Bishop, Storm. static shock and Misty Knight don't have any solo comics right now.

I would like to see some original solo minority ongoing books from DC and Marvel given another shot.

With decent writers. Put Bendis on a Power Man on-going, put Brubaker on Black Panther or The Falcon, put Geoff Johns on a John Stewart book, Winick on Static. They always give these titles to no names. I mean how many times have they given Blade a series half-heartedly only for it to fail?

I think the problem with Blade comics failing is that people want movie Blade and that world yet in the comics they don't want the movie version but in a Marvel setting so he does stuff like team up with Spider-Man or work for Shield. I actually enjoy Blade in teambooks like the Nightstalkers, Midnight Sons, MI:13 and
Mighty Avengers
but for a solo book they should of just kept him on the supernatural side of the Marvel universe interacting characters like Morbius, Doctor Strange, Werewolf By Night, Ghost Rider, ect.

Black Lightning needs to be erased from continuity. A black guy with lightning powers named Black Lightning is borderline racist.

Just replace the dude with Static Shock and give Static a bigger role in the new 52.

Give him the same treatment Cyborg has gotten.

Those two are some of DC's strongest black characters, and they're squandering Static's potential

John Stewart is cool too, but he'll forever be in Hal's shadow. Hal just has the best stories overall, and he'll probably always be my favorite GL due to Geoff Johns' run, which made me love the character. John should get more focus in the DCU though for sure.

Except that putting Cyborg on the Justice League has NOT been a popular decision. People are constantly complaining that he doesn't fit and that it should be Martian Manhunter instead.

Except that that doesn't always work. People keep throwing out these generalizations about what will work and ignore other factors. They've had big name creators attached to books in the past and they still didn't sell. One does not always equal the other.

The speed force prevents crap from getting into his eyes.

In the comics...but does he even know what that is?

Do we know it does all the same stuff, or that it even exists in the show?

Even prior to the introduction of the Speed Force in the 90s it was always explained as far back as the 50s that Flash had a protective aura from his powers protected him from things like this. It's the only reason he can move at the speeds he does without his body exploding and why he wears a form fitting uniform.

Bring on black Wally West.

I'd love to see the reaction here.

Any other reason? :P

He could still get hit in the spleen with a lead pipe...

Given the fact that they're doing the Geoff Johns origin and Professor Zoom would need the speed force to travel back in time, they will obviously address the speed force at one point.

If he's a bad Flash, sure, but seeing things in slow mo and being able to dodge bullets or phase through them I don't think that will be a problem.

Hehe ;) can't wait for black wally ;)

Gonna love Kevin's reaction when he see him :D

I doubt Wally is even going to be in this series until the 2nd or 3rd season.Who knows how long it'll take for them to make him "Kid Flash" after that.Plus he'll likely never become the Flash on the show.

I don't understand why if Detective West is black, Wally has to be.

That's like saying black people can't have kids that aren't black. Wally could be adopted, his mother could be white, there are all kinds of possibilities.

He MUST be a redhead though. Regardless of his race.

Black Wally West is just going to suck.

Black Wally West will suck just because he will be black?

Any comics fan who says they're in favor of changing Wally's race is really just deluding themselves.
Speak for yourself.

...just like you know no flying or costume doesn't equal Superman.
Wally isn't defined by his race.

Well, since Barry was "adopted" by the Wests (as it were) I guess it wouldn't be unusual that they could legally adopt Wally.
