The Batman Reboot Casting Thread - Part 2

OMG Walter Goggins as Joker is one of the most brilliant Casting choices ever! and for the love of GOD please no Amanda Seyfreid for any role. She can't act her way out of a plastic bag.. with a hole in the bottom of it.

Well, I haven't seen the Black Swan but it sound like a film with "Critics' Darling" stamped all over it. Other than that, I've only seen her act well in Thor. she was terrible in THREE star wars films, V for Vendetta and my brother tells me she was equally awful in Inglorious Basterds.

She was really great in Inglourious Basterds! I didn't even realize she was in it until you mentioned it! What a transformation!

Oh, wait, I think messed that up. I can't see her in the cast list. Sorry, must have been somebody who looked a bit like her. Again, many apologies.

Nobody in that movie looks like Natalie Portman. You trippin'.

Well, there you go. If someone who looks like you is a bad actor, you suck too. :hehe:

I hope for the reboot, they take an older Batman, especially making the universe 'Justice League centric' if you will.

Joel Edgarton, anyone?

Would certainly be different but would an older Batman need a robin to stop it looking daft?

i like joel but i dont get a batman vibe he has that everyman han solo vibe i would buy him as hal jordan before batman

Alright. Here's my cast and concept revised for the next Batman.

It is called "Shadow of the Bat." All of the Nolan films had a specific theme driving each one. TDK was about anarchy and human nature. TDKR seems to be grounded in Occupy Wallstreet and capitalism.

This film will be about technology as antithetical towards human development and progress, as man has become reliant on machine. The villains attempt to destroy the technological structures of society and leave mankind in the dark in order to survive on it's own. Batman, with all his gadgets, symbolizes what they are against.

The villain team in this will be Riddler (a fired employee and former drone of Wayne Tech, wanting revenge) and Pamela Isley (an eco-terrorist who uses dangerous biological agents as weapons).

The Gotham PD enlists the help of psychiatrist Hugo Strange in profiling these terrorists. Strange becomes more fascinated with profiling the Batman. Strange is a mentalist, and has the ability to brainwash people into doing his bidding without the use of technology.

When a terrorist-driven attack causes a complete blackout in Gotham, Strange becomes the biggest threat to the city by preying on the darker and savage nature of humanity, a nature unleashed when societal constructs are gone. Gotham City falls to savagery, as the desperate need for survival forces good people to turn to crime.

That shot of Wes Bentley just screams Bruce to me. But i prefer Christina Hendricks as Poison Ivy. I'm cool with those 3 villains injected into the next series of movies, but maybe not together. I would love to see Riddler as the main villain with either Hugo Strange or just Black Mask as a side villain.

Pretty cool. But i would prefer a little more fantasy for the reboot. Of course that could still be achieved with that kind of plot/villains.

You've won me over with Bentley though, Rockstar.

I preferred Chastain because of her status as a film actress in the industry right now, she's got a lot of strong buzz for her performances. She's a rising star and Oscar nominated.

I avoided Riddler as the main villain because I didn't want to replicate the DNA of Nolan's Joker portrayal in TDK too much. Strange is a much more insidious and subtle main villain I think.

What do you mean by fantasy?

The vast majority of Batman's best villains can easily be grounded in reality.

Oh wow, Chirstina Hendricks as Poinson Ivy would be increadible!!! That said Jessica Chastain would still be awesome. And I'm really starting to dig Bentley as Batman. How about a Robin though? Maybe give a reason, like it being such a big crisis Batman can't handle it alone and maybe Robin could be this really bitter street orphan who ran away from the circus after criminals killed his family and has been indesciminately attacking criminals ever since. Batman spurns him at first becasue he think him immoral, unprinicpled and undisciplined in his approch, a danger to himself and other innocetn people, but then find he need help as the situation spirals out of control!

I didn't include Robin because Chris Nolan is the producer of this project. It doesn't sound like he has any indication of bringing that character in.

Personally, I'm not against Robin though.. but I don't think there's a need for the character yet. Batman is incredibly profitable on his own merit, he doesn't need a sidekick right now.

As far as the realism goes, I think even Mister Freeze could be done in a grounded fashion. A man who has to exist in a cryogenic suit in order to survive. As long as there's a scientific explanation for his condition, it could be done.

It isn't that different from Bane and the chemicals in TDKR.

I also really want to see the crime boss version of the Penguin. Perhaps with Black Mask working for him.

Lots of potential for the future Batman films.

I prefer Chastain as Vicki Vale.

Why bring back the Vicki Vale character?

I thought Basinger did everything that could be possibly done with Vale.

Batman has a massive roster of love interests. There's room for someone new.

No, he's not. He said after TDKR, he's done with Batman.

I don't like Bentley's voice.

What's wrong with it?

It works for the soft-spoken and intense Batman akin to Keaton's portrayal.

He doesn't sound overly theatrical like Conroy's voice, but that's a different medium.

No, he's not. He said after TDKR, he's done with Batman.

He's not done. He's conceptualizing the approach towards the new Batman. Him and Emma Thomas are the official producers of the film.

Wouldn't be surprised if Jonah and Goyer become involved in some capacity as well.
