Casting older actors: 40 +

Jon Hamm as Bruce Wayne. Denzel Washington as Harvey Dent. Daniel Day Lewis as Joker. Michael Emerson as Riddler.

:woot: My sentiments exactly, but I'd rather not get Evans, even though I'd be happy with that choice. I just want Ezra though for Robin

I'm tired of this ******** on these boards any time someone brings up a gay actor for a superhero they say something along the lines of "Oh no, so and so can't be cast as insert superhero name here because I know the inner workings of WB so well that I know they wouldn't cast a gay actor as a superhero"

You guys don't know ****. Stop discounting actors because of their sexual orientation. You're NOT wb. You're some dumbass fanboy posting on SHH about who you would cast in a superhero movie.

WE DON'T KNOW WHO WB WILL CAST SO LETS STOP ACTING LIKE WE KNOW. If WB is a progressive and moral company they won't ****ing care about an actors sexual orientation.

You guys are overestimating the media backlash of a gay actor being cast as Batman. And it really pisses me off.

Rodrigo- stop acting like you know anything about how WB works. You don't. You're some nobody punk posting on the internet. I realize you were defending gay people but you made yourself sound like a dumbass while doing it. YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT WB WILL DO.

Obviously you don't care if I block you but if i see ignorant comments like that again I'm going to have to i hate seeing that **** on these otherwise pleasant boards.
No, I agree with you. I have no idea what they'll do, so I shouldnt be too hasty to assume. I'm really just going by this one sided view that I've mostly seen over the years, and it disgusts me. If they can ignore any backlash, keep their heads up, then that would be great, cause I know Lee Pace would have a terrific shot at this. But we all know there are small people out there who will mock this, there's no denying that, but should WB and any of us care about that pettiness? Absolutely not.

Believe me, I dont want to end up like Rockstar lol

I want to think WB would carry on like it's really nothing, cause it honestly isn't to people who live in the 21st Century. For those who don't and STILL have pathetic issues, then they can go **** themselves, pure and simple.

And please dont block me, Changeling. I enjoy your avatar. :)

My b dude you're really respectful, I mostly just said that because everyone assumes that around here and you just happened to be the one I called out ha.

And thanks I dig your avatar too :)

I really like Bruce and Dent being approximately the same age, kinda like "if things had only been different, they could've been best friends, or one could've turned out exactly like the other".

Love this, and that dynamic also totally works for Hush, who I think could be a great movie villain, even though theres a lot of villains Id pick before him..

I loved how the Bruce/Harvey relationship was handled in BTAS. They were both upper society and became good friends. I hope if Two Face returns he isn't created by Joker and I want him to actually have two different personalities like in the books and tv shows

Rupert Everett said being openly gay ruined his career and advised other actors not to come out the closet. That's real world.

Accepted as Batman is more difficult than accepted as Barney Stinson or Gandalf for a gay man. Studios care about money first, they wouldn't want to risk a billion dollar name.

I don't think we'll ever see openly gay man as Batman or James Bond type characters.

How many gay lead actors there in Hollywood? The reason can't be just they are not talented... Sad but true.

I don't think they would repeat TDK story with Harvey. (I loved it) It was already told by great script & actors. It would be like ASM's repeating same stuff like it's a new concept.

BTAS is great example for different Harvey Dent story. Mafia's blackmailing pushing him edges would work great on big screen. Temper issues like he had in BTAS would be great to see.

Um, I think you miss the point. The problem isn't a gay actor, or a gay actor playing a super hero. Its the problem of a gay actor, playing a superhero *who specifically has a decades old legacy of jokes about his alleged sexuality.* The worry isn't that there would be some kind of anti-gay protests of note; the worry is that the actual tone of the movie would get overwhelmed by Pedophile Batman jokes.

And WB's job isn't to be progressive, their job is to take a profit selling movies.

It's fine, don't worry about it ;)

But you were right. I shouldn't have been so certain to anything, because that's EXACTLY the attitude that stops celebs from revealing themselves, and makes them afraid to express themselves in fear of being rejected. That's the behaviour I'm against as well, so I feel quite ashamed at myself right now. But if it weren't for what you said, I would probably wouldn't have realised it. So thanks, Changeling :)

I don't think that's the main point people have been making, you're looking too far into it. The only reason Batman would get made fun of for being gay is if Robin was in it AND the next actor was gay.

I've definitely seen people discount actors for other superhero roles for being gay. So no, I didn't miss the point, you're just ASSUMING that the next film will have Robin which would be nice, but I'm not counting on it.

People assumed Superman was gay in SR because Bryan Singer was the director.

People are stupid.

My old manager at the store I worked at in college asked me if "Superman was gay in the movie" after I told her I saw it. I was like "What? What are you talking about?" She says "Does he act gay? My son says he acts gay." I told her at no point in the movie, does Superman have sex with another man, so no, he does not act gay. That ended that conversation.

It probably had to do with Routh acting like a complete wuss throughout the movie.

I don't buy that, either. The problem with that movie wasn't his acting. It was that there was nothing for Superman to do. You have a guy who can do basically anything, but you don't have any action for him. Oh well, this has been discussed over and over and over again since 2006.

Maybe, but for me personally, i never liked him as Superman. Not a fan of his acting OR how he was written. And yes, i do think he was a bit wussy.

This cast is perfect. Emerson has got a great look for the Riddler. I also think he would be perfect for the role of Nightcrawler in any future Xmen movies.

+1

after watching Tron: Legacy & Frost/Nixon, i think Michael Sheen would be a pretty badass Riddler

before boardwalk empire starts again,

jack huston for bats?
anybody?

Jack Huston is a pretty good suggestion. I approve:up:

he is a little "cheeky" but i figured if joshua jackson is an ok choice. why not.

he's already got the bale rasp. :woot:

never thought about Jack Huston for Bruce/Bats, but not a bad choice by any means. i like his character on Boardwalk.

I really hope the next Batman actor goes for more of a Kevin Conroy or Bruce Greenwood voice rather than another Bale rasp.

the bale rasp thing was a joke.

and i think you have to be born with a voice like conroy to sound like conroy.
