I still have trouble picturing anybody but bale playing batman but i could actually see Matt Bomer really working. Aside from his appearance i think he could really bring that x factor to the role.

I agree, watching White Collar has me convinced that Bomer can pull of the "World's Greatest Detective" kind of Batman. He also appears to have the mannerisms to pull off just as good a Bruce Wayne as Bale had.

My only concern with Bomer is that he might be a little too pretty boyish. My personal preference is that Bruce be handsome in a rather edgy way. My goodness, he's good-looking, though.

Lately I've been thinking about Josh Hartnett for the rebooted Batman. I know, I know, crazy...but the idea of a brooding Batman similar to Arkham Asylum/City....I think he could pull it off. And he was once in the running for either Batman or Superman(don't know which one) for that proposed Batman/Superman film years ago.

I could see both Hartnett and Gyllenhaal getting looked at by WB. Gyllenhaal was in the running to play Bruce before Bale was cast and I believe Hartnett was on the studio's radar to play Superman.

Reading back over this page I see some unnecessary fighting going on. I was a big supporter of Bomer for Superman but many are rightfully cynical as regards the studios and whether they would ever cast a very openly gay man as a tough guy action icon, there's nothing homophobic in that question because until proven otherwise it's a legitimate one.

They haven't even announced a Batman reboot yet but since I'm here I'll say that I'd prefer they go older and have an experienced Batman, there's no need for another origin movie. My choice is Anson Mount.

There is undoubtedly a stigma attached, even today, about gay actors playing certain roles.
Plus casting a gay actor in the Batman role, a character who has had so much homosexual and homoeroticism disscusions and jokes than any other straight superhero in comicbook lore.

I honestly would love to see Bomer cast, not only because he's a good actor and great choice for Batman, to wipe away this stigma and to see them hold their heads up with this decision. I imagine it would be a major breakthrough in how far we've come.

But right now, it's hard to see this become reality.

I've been supporting Bomer for the role in the past, but it's these thinkings that's made me cynical and doubtful. So saying I'm homophobic is pure ********.

And yes, Anson Mount. Never used to be a fan, but I think he'd be perfect.

i see what you're saying. i think he would have been better off cast as superman then batman given all of that. I think it would be awesome if h got the role though. in fact, i hope he does.

He's better than most choices out there. So I hope he does get cast, or even just looked at very closely, which I think he will.

It's not that I don't like Bomer, I actually think he'd be awesome. But I feel like--and maybe it's just me--his features are super similar to Henry Cavill. And if they ever intend for a rebooted Batman to share the screen with Cavill's Superman, I think it'd be beneficial to have someone who's just different looking. Like, I'd rather see someone that's not as traditionally handsome.

If they went with a more experienced Batman, I think Patrick Wilson would be awesome. If they wanted someone closer to Cavill's age though, I'm a big supporter of Joel Kinnaman.

Gonna throw a relative unknown in here - Jamie Dornan. He's 31, 6ft, Northern-Irish and recently starred in the BBC Drama 'The Fall', which was very successful here. I'd never really heard of him until I saw it but was surprised by how much presence he had on screen and how intense he could be, even in scenes where he had little to say. He'd need to bulk up a little but I think he could carry off Bruce Wayne.
