The Batman Reboot Casting Thread - Part 7

But if they do get a younger Batman, then does it mean Whedon will pick a young Batgirl? I think they’re planning on tied origin stories for this particular line.

When Reeves said it would be self-contained, he obviously must’ve meant in terms of the film taking place before MOS, BVS, JL. The Deadshot and Joker origin stories might tie into it too. I think it’s being meticulously planned for this direction. Affleck’s original script was probs just a follow-on from the current films, and when Reeves and his vision were brought on board, it all changed. It might be why he walked away from it that time, because he had this demand. And that could’ve come beforehand when Ben’s last film tanked, but I don’t know.

But I think it’s going to be a slightly younger group of actors we should be looking for, because that’s what they’ll be going for.

I'm convinced Mark Rylance would make the perfect Alfred.

He'd be good for sure, but I'll never forgive him for stealing Stallone's Oscar.

That's why Stallone should steal the role of Alfred from him.

I wouldn't throw Jeremy Irons away just because they'll get a younger actor for Batman... What was the problem with him? :hmm

The Batman will be completely unconnected to the existing DCEU continuity. By the time we get more solid information, months will have passed since JL’s release, and the dust will have settled on this dumpster fire. Nothing has been meticulously planned up to this point.

Seriously. The Batman. Zero connection to DCEU. Hard reboot.

An odd idea just popped up in my mind and I'm not actually sure he could pull it off, but how about Stephen Merchant for The Joker? It would be interesting to have an actor who's actually great at comedy, and I think he also showed another side in Logan. I like his lanky look for The Joker too.

Cast him with Lee Pace as Batman and you've got two tall ****ers.

He's just OK in the role and looks bored. He comes off like a colder uncle who is mechanically inclined lol. I'd rather get a actor who has better comedic timing, feels more like a warmer father/grandfather. People told me he would be too villainous in the role, and I ignored it. Not that he's villainous, but he is a bit cold. I guess I hadn't seen Irons act in a long time, and just figured he would be great. He still has an awesome voice. But he's not the best match for the character.

They should recast. I don't see him signing For 3 or 4 more. That would be five or six times. Cast somebody with energy for this role.

Irons is fine as Alfred but I don't think we're really losing much if he were recast.

Irons' Alfred was definitely a tad dull. I mean, he was supposed to be more jaded, given how this Bruce was, but yeah, kind of a bummer overall. I can't recall him smiling once. We should have at least a more comforting, positive side to him by the end of BvS.

Anyways, I'd like to see Bill Nighy in the role next.

Seriously. That might have been the most undeserved award in Oscar history.

And before someone praises Rylance's "subtle" performance... please. There are subtle performances and then there are performances where an actor barely says or does anything. That was the latter. The movie was mediocre and so was he.

Alex Jennings for Alfred.

I wouldn't hate it. He's enjoyable in a majority of stuff I've seen him in and he's got the smile, as demonstrated in the first pic, as well as the lanky features.

Wow I actually liked Irons' Alfred but if Rylance gets the role then I'm all in. I've never thought of him before, but he does look kind and has that warmth about him.

I hope DC keep Jeremy Irons as Alfred...if anything his portrayal is definitely up there with Sir Michael Caine as being one of the great Alfreds...DC would have to be fools to get rid of Irons

Caine: “some men want to watch the world burn.”

Irons: *drinks*

Rylance as Alfred is the best piece of fan casting I’ve heard in a long time  He can do formal English butler, mixed with ex-SAS officer standing on his head.
