The Batman Spoiler Discussion Thread

Saw a clip. Way to dark to make out his face for me but I see the movie Thursday so should get a better look.

I actually liked it because it didn’t seem like he was putting on an act with an accent or anything.

I actually liked the laugh. He sounded genuinely crazy. He will have like two years to perfect it but it’s great.

I think I may be in the minority of online fans but I never can get enough of the joker against Batman and I don’t think general fans either. I just think it’s way more interesting than fighting Calendar Man or the Court of Owls.

Agreed. Joker is Batman's arch nemesis for a good reason

So I keep reading about how insane the batmobile chase is. Would you guys say it's in par with the chase from TDK? I love me a good car chase!
Man, my favourite part of the movie. It's great, the introduction of the car is on par with the first time you see it on 89 and BB. You know, THAT moment.

No amount of prosthetics are going to allow an actor to smile like comic Joker.

Also we dont actually know if it was prosthetics in this scene, or if it was whether prosthetics will work beyond this scene in a heavy role. I know its the common thing to balk at cgi at all, but that is so last decade. Mocap has come far, and cgi enhancements on top of actor's faces and merged with prosthetics is so common its practically the norm for any abnormal characters. With Reeves experience with mocap and cgi I think he could do far more and do it far better than with prosthetics alone.

And there is no getting around the fact that prosthetics add mass to an actor's face. Without cgi to shave that down Joker is going to end up with a pointy chin and full cheeks. Not what you want with a comic accurate Joker design.

The closest I've ever seen to comic book Joker in look without prosthetics, just make up, is the cosplay by Anthony Misiano. That is due to having the right face to work with, strategic shading with the make up, and being a realistic look of what the classic Joker features would be in real life. No one has a face like the more exaggerated versions of Joker, but people do have long thin faces with pointy chins and aquiline nose etc, which you can exaggerate with make up. Still not going to look precisely like comic book Joker, except for the more realistic proportioned versions.

It would be funny if Lex was the villain in next movie, just like how he was in No Man's Land, indeed, lmao :funny:

I've always thought Vincent Cassel and Adrien Brody have the best face shapes of any actors I've ever seen for Joker. If you added a prosthetic pointy chin to their faces and gave them the full Joker look, it would look amazing

Yep. Then he says, "But I suppose there are worse things to be," or something to that effect.

I like this Joker's sense of humor so far !

Matt will be a genius if he finds a way to bring a grounded Mr. Freeze in the next movie, watched the movie last night, LOVED IT, but there is no way i can see a fantastical villain in the next movies, and this is not a criticism, im in love with this grounded world that Matt has created, cant wait to see more of it

I think he was just stating that it's possible and would be a fun challenge to adapt those characters in his world, but in the same quote he reiterates that this universe he has built isn't fantastical. I really don't think it's likely we get characters like Freeze, Ivy, Scarecrow. But It's Matt Reeves were talking about here. He made everyone emotional and cry over movies about apes. He could do anything in these films as far as I'm concerned

Like I wrote in my review, I didn't expect to see a lot of The Crow references.

They basically did this scene with Nirvana's Something in the Way.

Sure, and im not worried about that, there are tons of realistic villains he could use in the sequels, Hush, Hugo Strange, Ventriloquist, Deacon Blackfire, and lets not forget the classic ones like Joker and Harvey

The fact that Keoghan is billed so high despite having less than two minutes of screen time all but assures me that he's involved with the HBO spinoff. Frankly I wouldn't be surprised if that announcement came as early as next week. And then eventually Reeves and WB will release the cut scene online as a "teaser" of sorts.

Pretty cool strategy.

I see that the long rumoured cameo was discussed a few post ago so...unpopular opinion I guess :

That scene between Dano and Keoghan just didn't worked for me. We discussed that particular moment with friends after the screening and it was unanimous: it just felt to us like it came from another movie. The both of them laughing together was just... a bit too close to remind of a very infamous "ding ding ding"... And it pains me to say this ! ahah

But more seriously, I won't condemn the performance yet. It was so brief it wouldn't be fair.
And of course, I totally respect people enjoying that little teasing !

I slept on it.

As a glutton for Joker content, I'm happy to have the scene. It's two minutes and altogether harmless to have in there. On the flip side though, it serves no purpose either other than sequel bait. In that aspect, it sort of calls attention to itself and doesn't really feel like it belongs in the movie surrounding it. For a movie that tries to break conventions and typical genre norms, the scene felt very cliche.

I thought the context of the scene was fine though. Riddler spent the entire movie thinking he and Batman were "friends," only to be completely and utterly rejected. Enter "Unseen Arkham Prisoner," who offers to fill that void and give Riddler something he clearly desires. So in a way it was both a resolution for Riddler's arc as well as a tease of things to come.

I need to see the Dano and Keoghan scene again - I felt like towards the end of the movie I kept anticipating something Joker therefore it didn't fully register with me

I wouldn't have thought it beforehand, but it seems very obvious to me that they may try to set up Hush as a villain in the next movie.

Audience was dead silent during the scene too. So either they were totally engrossed, the scene didn't land or they didn't quite realize who he was.
