The Batman Spoiler Discussion Thread

Exactly. I can’t imagine in a universe where the bat-grapple, a jet-powered Batmobile and some pseudo-Venom stimulant exists they can’t find a way to do almost any other villain justice. I can understand not wanting to do magical/alien elements, but Freeze, Firefly, even Poison Ivy can fit in this universe.

The Arkham games minus supernatural things like Ra’s seem like a good sign post to use for this universe. Coincidentally the way the movie ends actually sets it up perfectly for a version of the Arkham City storyline.

I was watching chris stuckmans video and someone in the comments said that dude at the funeral who was talking to Bruce was the same Riddler thug he was beating up at the end. I didn't catch that! Such a fantastic detail.

When I saw the city underwater I did think of the game. I just want him to glide with his cape and not a wingsuit. That I didn't like. I can give it a pass since it is still early on and in the sequel he can upgrade. Like I said before if you do the grapple gun, you can do the cape gliding. They are synonymous with each other to me and very iconic at this point.

ooooh that’s a cool catch, I love things that’ll keep us going back for repeat viewings

Another great, in depth interview with Reeves here. They get into some fun stuff here about Rob being cast in Tenet right before Reeves wanted to bring him in to audition and how Reeves was worried there was no way he'd do both.

Idk how he has the stamina for all this press, but he really does seem like a genuinely kind-hearted guy. I hope he gets a nice week-long nap soon.

I'm still so mesmerized by so many things in this film. Just came across a clip of that jail scene between Batman and Edward. Dano is so terrifying here with his outbursts, and he really lets it all shine. in the comics, Riddler comes across as someone with OCD, and most OCD sufferers end up feeling like they're collapsing within themselves when their compulsive or obsessive needs aren't fulfilled, which is just irrational anxiety in the end. I don't know whether this version has that or what, but either way, I loved all of his outbursts. Then Batmans "what have you done", and Riddler answering "What's black and blue and dead all over? You!" and the rage keeps on building in Batman. Just an overall brilliant scene.

Has already been discussed the fact that the woman at the funeral wasn’t Selina like we saw in those set pics? Do you think Matt tried to mislead us by showing Carmine and Selina on set?

I’m going for the second time here at noon.

I did want to comment on how this portrayal is so stunning… showcasing a man who’s still a boy. He’s still feeling the ramifications of being an orphan who was all alone. He’s a petulant sad kid who only knows to use his fists… until he almost loses Alfred. It’s so ****ing beautiful.

It’s the first time since MOTP where I feel Bruce’s depression and loss.

Michelle's Catwoman was/is still mesmerizing. But, she's created whole clothe from Burton.

Actually, quite a bit of her origin story comes from the comics, the abuse, the amnesia, the split personality thing. Burton added the "nine lives" thing, but that's just a glorified pun, also rampant in the comics.

That is an option - but that has little to do with Victor Fries as a character. This universe will end up being quite medium if every character is robbed of their core traits just to be more grounded.

Freeze’s brutality is always in aid of getting a cure for Nora, and he’s rarely a mad scientist as much as he’s a distraught husband willing to do whatever he needs to to save his wife.
Also. The iconography of a man having the most heart being confined to a life of unfeeling.

Twisting it into a name gimmick of freeze weapons robs him of his iconic status. Some characters are their gimmicks which makes it easier to keep their traits. Penguin doesn’t need an umbrella so much as his personality.

Poison ivy can be an eco terrorist\scientist but the ability to control plants is what makes her iconic.

Enjoy bro I’m so anxious to see it again already.

Also a good point about Freeze, yeah. I think diluting character accuracy just to force some kind of technologically or scientifically mundane version would be a massive mistake.

We live at a time where people are genetically modifying plants, splicing animal DNA into human organs, pseudo-invisibility material exists, and the military has all kinds of weird nonsense at its disposal. There’s almost zero excuse to not do most of Batman’s rogue gallery accurately. Acid vat Joker or comic accurate Freeze aren’t pushing the boundaries at all, IMO.

I’d say Ra’s and the pit, Clayface, Solomon Grundy, and certain limitations on things like Man-Bat/Poison Ivy’s abilities are what I’d say the edge of this universe should reasonably be. Everything else should be fair game.

Matt Reeves is incredibly generous. And it shows in the film.
These interviews are the kind of insights you hope for as bonuses on home release etc., often only to be disappointed with how little we finally get. But here, he gives so much, I love it!
Between his energy and how charming and engaged in the whole project seems Pattinson, I feel really good as a fan. That's a so promising team, and we're only at the beginning !

I said this as far back before Dark Knight Rises, but if Reeves wanted to keep with his serial killer motif, he need to look no further than The Iceman killer Richard Kuklinski for inspiration.

Not much to add just yet, but damn I loved how Batman alternated between quietly emerging on people and those heavy ass thudding steps that alerts everyone of his presence.

Reeves intentions with the Joker really seems to be "maybe, but who knows?" and I'm kinda glad. it's clear that even though he's one of the most famous villains in film history, he has been used a lot, and I think Reeves is interested in other villains that he can bring to this world. That being said, I wouldn't be shocked to see him in a spin-off. Whatever feels natural I think.

I can respect what Reeves is saying here. But I think Selina's cynicism and the act of her leaving conveys the idea of Gotham not changing just fine. Maybe I'll like this scene more if Joker isn't in any of the Reeves films. I ****ing hope not. Give Joker a rest.

This is what ive been saying. We really do not need the Joker yet again. The Joker coming should be an event, something special which is why it was so monumental when Heath played him in TDK, because we hadnt seen him in film in so long. We’ve gotten so much Joker lately, from Joaquin to Leto to even his appearance in the Gotham TV show. Lets put some space between the character and give him weight again.
