Sci-Fi The Battlestar Galactica and Caprica Discussion Thread - Part 1

The only fault I find in the finale is the Kara issue. Everything else worked for me.

I liked that, there should always be something unexplained. Her final scene with Lee gave me chills. And we did remember her, we named part of Greece after her

And a coffee-conglomerate :woot:

sorry for that excruciatingly bad joke :csad:

No that's ok, when they were advertising the show they had Katie photographed with dirk bendict at everyones favourite cafe. I wonder where Herman Melville got the name for his ship's officer in moby dick (and bob Dylan got the idea for all along the watchtower?)

Aside from some filler, I see no problem with season three. That was probably my favorite season for Baltar.

I thought the first couple of episodes up to Exodus part 2 were pretty much the peak points of the show, although the rest of the season doesn't touch those couple of episodes, it's still solid stuff. Season 4 as a whole was better though imo. It has lots of peaks than just one really major one. I particularly love "The Hub" battle. Even though it's short it's very beautiful and majestic than a cluster of crap blowing up. Probably my fav space battle ever.

after the Pegasus trilogy, and the Exodus 4 parter, I was wondering where the hell they could go with the exciting parts of the story (the drama can go on forever).

They gave us the Hub in the mean time. And the finale was awesome.

but I think they hamstringed themselves after exodus, because it was so great. After exodus, set peice battles were going to be hard to top. So I agree, Exodus was the peak of the show, up until the finale.

I hope B&C has the same effort put into it.

I'd more say the discovery of the false earth was always meant to be an anti-climax? Although to have the scene between Tigh and Adama and the mutiny storyline was worth it

I just finished watching the episode where Billy dies. That was sad. I liked him and was hoping to see more of his character develop. I feel especially bad considering his girlfriend jumped in bed with Lee in the next episode. :csad:

I'm on season 3 now. Lee Adama has become quite the fat ass. I think I watched 9 episodes straight of BSG the other day. I found myself saying "frack" in actual conversations. :csad:

Good.... gooooooood.

I have to say, season 1 was tough to get through but season 2 hooked me in fast. Season 3 has been very good so far.

I just finished the series. Fantastic show. It reminded me of LOST many times. The ending with our Earth not being the Earth was surprising but I loved the twist. Hera being the genetic ancestor of all humanity was a nice touch and I LOVED the final scene with All Along the Watchtower being played at the end while showing advancements in robotic technology today. Brilliant ending. I've still yet to see The Plan and I think I may check out Caprica later on.

Finished watching The Plan. It was mostly filler but I enjoyed it. It was fun seeing everything connecting together. I will be watching Caprica next.

Glad you enjoyed the series, Mike. And yeah, The Plan was total filler. Did you watch Razor? That one was easily the superior BSG movie. It was meant to be watched in between S3 and S4.

Just a warning: Caprica is even slower getting going (I saw you mention you had trouble getting through S1 of BSG, and unlike BSG, the Caprica pilot is probably the worst ep of the series), and it's a very different type of show than BSG, but once you get about midway through the season, it becomes very worth it, imo.

Yeah, I saw Razor before season 4. It was actually billed as season 4 episode 1 on Netflix. I had no idea that it was a movie at the time so I was confused when it had nothing to do with the season 3 finale. :oldrazz:

I did have trouble getting into season 1 of BSG. I thought it moved along slowly but I am glad I kept with the show. I had the same problem with Mad Men season 1 but kept at it. I'll make sure to keep at it with Caprica.

I thought Caprica was strong throughout. I bout the premiere on dvd almost a year before it premiered and I thought it was absolutely outstanding. I'll never forgive syfy for canceling it because I really feel like if it had survived it would have become the better series imho

I watched the pilot episode a little while ago. I thought it was pretty good. It's great seeing how everything started. Loved seeing an 11 year old William Adama. Since this takes place 58 years prior to the attack in BSG, when did the first Cylon war start? Maybe 10 years after Caprica? Or is it 18 years since I think 40 years past between the first Cylon war and second one in BSG?

If Adama is 11 in Caprica, then it would be like 8 or 9 years later because I'm pretty sure he's supposed to be 19 or 20 in Blood and Chrome.

Thats not the real Adama he is born at the end of season 1

Oh, I forgot about that. Kind of a dumb twist I thought.

Out of all of Caprica, I actually liked the last few minutes of the (what became) series finale. It was originally intended to be a fore-shadowing of the next season, but ended up serving as a good epilogue to the show instead.

As far as Blood & Chrome... well one rumor suggests it's been so poorly received by the network that they're considering demoting it back to a web-series from the two-hour telemovie it got promoted to from it's original inception as a web-series. Which could be because of the script/plot/acting, or the digital sets didn't hold muster.

Digital sets = they did high-resolution scans of the BSG sets before tearing them down for later use/reference if needed, and where using such via blue/green screens instead of actual physical construction. So... if that bombed, they could be wanting to not get laughed at by airing it on TV.

Yeah, but they had to do that to fix the timeline, because [blackout]when people did the math, they realized the 11-year-old Adama would be at 70 when BSG started,[/blackout] which just...didn't work.

And to answer your question Mike, the First Cylon war was 12-years long, so Caprica must have been set 6 years before it began (which means [blackout]Adama would have only fought in the last year or two of it, when he was 17-18[/blackout]. So yeah, depending on his age in Blood and Chrome, they may screw up that timeline a bit.
