Yeah but my point was, even the very opening scene of the first one was focused more on the ideas than anything else (Cylons are humanoid now? "Are you alive?" etc) . So 20-mins in, you can already tell this is a different beast.Well, c'mon, it's only been like 20 minutes. Give it some time. The old show took a while to build as well.
To clarify, when I say the old show, I mean the 2000's show. Old in relation to this and Caprica.
I've only seen a couple of random episodes of the original '70's series. Don't think I saw the pilot at all.
I didnt think I would like the young Adama character at all in this but he was surprisingly entertaining in his hot-shot demeanor. I can really see this as a younger version of the Admiral in later years. In the beginning of Ep 1 I was almost shouting at the present Commander that "jebus, just give him the control of Galactica and the war will be over like that!" :P
I hope it will stay away from too much fighting in space though, that scene in Ep 2 was terrible headache-inducing.
My mom is actually a massive fan of the original series, so she owns it all on DVD. Guess I'll have to check out the pilot.I'd imagine you could probably find it on youtube, or even an official site, streaming.
It hasn't aged well (shag carpeted starships and all), but if you're a fan of the modern show, it's worth a viewing. The actual battlestar still looks pretty cool.
I dunno, that depends on what you mean by the "the old show." If you mean the one from the 70's, maybe. But if you mean the one this is spun-off from, well, it seems far more...generic to me so far. Simply, Humans vs Robots in Space! BSG cared much more about its characters and ideas from the opening scenes onwards. It's like this and Caprica took BSG and split it into its two extremes: Caprica took all the grand ideas and cerebral nature and made a show out of that, and this one's taking the space military action elements and making a show out of that. So both are left feeling like lesser pieces rather than a satisfying whole, if that makes sense. I was always more into the ideas and themes than the action stuff, so I guess that's why Caprica seemed much better than this to me.
Still, as I said, this has enough BSG in its DNA for me to keep watching.
