The Black Donnellys

It was nice. The only thing I didn't like was Tommy's amazingly well sclupted muscle. Just seemed unlikely that an art student from New York would also be a body builder.

Funny. From what I can tell, the basic plot of the series reminds me a bit of Bendis' Daredevil run. That is, a genuinely decent person ends up becoming the boss of Hell's Kitchen and has to defend it from all the gangs looking to take over.
Believe it or not, I thought the same thing once the pilot ended. It was good, and the show may have potential if the ratings manage to stay strong. It's also interesting how Haggis updated the story for a modern setting, considering the Black Donnelly clan lived in the mid-1800's. Last night's episode was good too.

you do know its not an update of the biddulph feud right? the title is just a play on that... homage or reference for lack of a better term... kinda like grey's anatomy is a play on the name of the book "gray's anatomy"

anywho i was pleasantly surprised and impressed! i cant get enough of this show... i barricaded myself in my office at work and watched the unaired third episode!

I like this show already. I liked last night's episode, and Tommy is really rising to a more serious role. LOL, though, Jimmy is hilarious. Episode two was great is all I have to say. And the preview for the third episode looks like it'll be awesome. I liked "The Departed" song that was played in the backround.

I love Joey Ice Cream. Everything he does makes me laugh. It's great that they chose a pathological liar who's in prison to tell the story. And of course Tommy is hot. He has that psychotic, mysterious look to him. Olivia Wilde is also great. She's way hot.

I really hope this show survives, there are so few good things to watch on tv nowadays. Welcome to the hype IrishBeauty.

Which episode does everyone like better? What scene really drew you in? I liked the second episode better because we got to find out more about the characters. The scene that got me was probably in the first episode when Sean got beat up. My heart was pounding.

Have only seen the pilot. It was....okay. It was trying too hard to be Irish Sopranos. Along the way I noticed rip-offs ffrom Mystic River, Goodfellas and an endingg that tried way too hard to be Michael Corleone in The Godfather.
I mean when Tommy, who was the college kid who never wanted to be in the neighborhood/family business defends a close relative by killing everyone at the end. And now he "owns the neighborhood," I thought it was the most shamless steal from The Godfather, I've seen in a long time.

Not to mention for such proud New York Irish to be lacking semi-Irish or New York accents.....it all was very forced (not surprising from Haggis).

With that said, it was entertaining and the narration from Joey in prison has alone been the best part. It oculd get better, but the pilot was nothing special. Just your average depiction of TV mafia (which unless its on HBO, means little bite) while stealing from better mob movies over the years, though.

Man, I just watched the pilot again on Bravo. And saw this new ****in awesome promo for it, for upcoming eps. Def good.

can anyone explain how the show plays out? why is that guy in jail explaining the story? is he confessing everything that happened involvingt he donnelys? are they all in jail?

Joey Ice Cream is tellin the story cause he's a childhood friend of the Donnellys, and always hung it with 'em. And somethin tells me that the way he's talkin about the story means that

The Donnellys' might be dead :csad:

New ep right now! Wooooot! :cmad::up:

Next week's lookin good.

the characterization is consistent and you can feel the tension between the characters. i hope this show makes it through the season.

Yeah tonight was awesome, the basement part was intense.

The whole dead thing might just be a SERIES finale thing, or if the show doesn't make it, an' ender or somethin' :csad:

Yeah, I hope it makes it. :cmad::up:

This show is climbing the ranks so fast. I follow A LOT of dramas weekly throughout their season and this is really as strong a start as any of my favorites.

Looks like Joey Ice Cream is going overboard with the stories again next week ... lol. :hyper:
Unless he really does go all out with that scene with him pulling 2 guns :ninja:

As for tonight's episode ...
Luckily for the bros that Jenny didn't go all out with the cleaning of basement. They would've been screw right there. And Jesus Christ! Is Jimmy really worth killing for !? The guy's been nothing but trouble. He's annoying the hell out of me with his antics! Hopefully he's the only Donelly who dies. :cmad:
