Black Panther Leaps To $47M In 3 Days Overseas; Topping Doctor Strange & More International Box Office
How fast will Warner try to push Cyborg now?
How fast will Warner try to push Cyborg now?
They're def gonna have to now or push the John Stewart Green Lantern film.
Cyborg is a bit different as it's black male lead but not nearly a whole cast of black actors.
Yeah I don't think Cyborg's world is predominantly black the most they can focus on is the father son relationship. That is already a big deal for him so it wouldn't be like it is something they took from BP and emphasized.
I don't really care for most of the DC projects. Get me Flash, Martian Manhunter, Brainiac, and of course
John Stewart GL which should be helped by BP's success. His movie would have a majority black cast and should focus on him and his environment.
Wampler from BMD via twitter:
Hearing rumblings that BLACK PANTHER could legit hit $200M this weekend. Hopefully Hollywood's big takeaway here is not "People love seeing Martin Freeman in supporting roles."
Could anyone have ever predicted this?
1 year ago i'd have predicted 600 million worldwide.
6months ago I'd have predicted 700 million.
Now it looks like 900 is possible.
Hopefully both, and not just to jump on the bandwagon. You'd hope they were planning this anyway before JL did so badly. At least a Titans film with Cyborg if not a solo. I'd like to see Hal Jordan, John Stewart and Jessica Cruz in a GLC film.
Don't worry. Every penny counts. My theater was half full but that's normal in my suburb. I rarely have to worry about sellouts. (awesome)
I hope Marvel Studios has more black superhero movies planned instead of only relying on BP; they have WM, Falcon, Valkyrie, and other characters that they can use for a solo or team up movie.
The only black superheroes who absolutely need a solo project at this point are Green Lantern, Static Shock, Miles Morales (live action), and Storm in a BP sequel.
And a throw back Blue Marvel origin movie has potential as well.

Friday, 11:53AM: The first set of estimates are in, and theyre showing that Disney/Marvels Black Panther is headed toward a historic weekend with $200M-$205M over four-days, $175M over three. These figures do not come from Disney. The Ryan Coolger-directed, an co-written pic with Joe Robert Cole should post an estimated $72M today, with last nights $25.2M previews repping 35% of that number.
On a three-day and four-day basis, Black Panthers estimates are easily the pre-summer records beating Beauty and the Beast ($174.7M 3-day, $188.2M 4-day) and Warner Bros./DCs Batman v. Superman ($166M 3-day, $181M 4-day). If these figures maintain, then Black Panther will own the 7th best opening of all-time at the domestic box office behind Captain America: Civil War ($179M). The pic is also on track to beat Marvels Iron Man 3 ($174.1M 3-day, $185.4M 4-day). Beyond amazing, especially for this time of year, but this holiday always works in the majors favor: ComScore reports that 23% K-12 and 9% colleges are off today, figures which will respectively spike to 88% out and 34% out. Over four-days, Cooglers Black Panther beats the first four days of F. Gary Grays Fate of the Furious debut by 86% (or $107.3M). Gray owned the previous opening record for a movie directed by an African American.
Or bothJohn Stewart will be in the GL Corp. movie so he wont get a solo film; Static Shock has a successful cartoon but that doesnt mean he should get a movie; I dont see a movie based on Morale unless they do a Spiderverse movie; and Storm is better in an X-Men movie than a BP sequel.
I guess having Scarlett in the role helped there too.If BW can get a solo movie after being a support character since IM2, I dont see why WM and Falcon cant get one either.
