Hearing rumblings that BLACK PANTHER could legit hit $200M this weekend. Hopefully Hollywood's big takeaway here is not "People love seeing Martin Freeman in supporting roles."

Cyborg is also DCEU :o

Which I think is also labeled Box Office Poison :hehe:

I kid I kid :oldrazz:

Cyborg will have another moment to shine (hopefully) in that Teen Titans Go! to the movies... as he's very entertaining to watch and the kids love him!

They're def gonna have to now or push the John Stewart Green Lantern film.

Hopefully both, and not just to jump on the bandwagon. You'd hope they were planning this anyway before JL did so badly. At least a Titans film with Cyborg if not a solo. I'd like to see Hal Jordan, John Stewart and Jessica Cruz in a GLC film.

Cyborg is a bit different as it's black male lead but not nearly a whole cast of black actors.

Yeah I don't think Cyborg's world is predominantly black the most they can focus on is the father son relationship. That is already a big deal for him so it wouldn't be like it is something they took from BP and emphasized.

I don't really care for most of the DC projects. Get me Flash, Martian Manhunter, Brainiac, and of course

John Stewart GL which should be helped by BP's success. His movie would have a majority black cast and should focus on him and his environment.

MM absolutely!

Yeah I would still like to get a Cyborg solo, it just seems a lot further away after JL. I just hope they can do a great GLC so that a number of future GL projects are possible.

I do.

:woot:

Could anyone have ever predicted this?

1 year ago i'd have predicted 600 million worldwide.

6months ago I'd have predicted 700 million.

Now it looks like 900 is possible.

900 M-$1.1 B seems the likely range.

This is going to be a $400-500 M domestic movie. I can't see it doing less than $500 M abroad either. $900 M feels like the floor.

I hope Marvel Studios has more black superhero movies planned instead of only relying on BP; they have WM, Falcon, Valkyrie, and other characters that they can use for a solo or team up movie.

The only black superheroes who absolutely need a solo project at this point are Green Lantern, Static Shock, Miles Morales (live action), and Storm in a BP sequel.

And a throw back Blue Marvel origin movie has potential as well.

Storm is a huge opportunity. Could take advantage of the vibe of both Black Panther and Wonder Woman while helping launch a new super team in the MCU.

Yeah BP can be the leading light but no need to stop there.

John Stewart will be in the GL Corp. movie so he won’t get a solo film; Static Shock has a successful cartoon but that doesn’t mean he should get a movie; I don’t see a movie based on Morale unless they do a Spiderverse movie; and Storm is better in an X-Men movie than a BP sequel.

If BW can get a solo movie after being a support character since IM2, I don’t see why WM and Falcon can’t get one either.

Deadline's early estimates(still subject to change)

‘Black Panther’ Sprinting Toward Historic $200M+ 4-Day Weekend – Midday Update

Friday, 11:53AM: The first set of estimates are in, and they’re showing that Disney/Marvel’s Black Panther is headed toward a historic weekend with $200M-$205M over four-days, $175M over three. These figures do not come from Disney. The Ryan Coolger-directed, an co-written pic with Joe Robert Cole should post an estimated $72M today, with last night’s $25.2M previews repping 35% of that number.

On a three-day and four-day basis, Black Panther‘s estimates are easily the pre-summer records beating Beauty and the Beast ($174.7M 3-day, $188.2M 4-day) and Warner Bros./DC’s Batman v. Superman ($166M 3-day, $181M 4-day). If these figures maintain, then Black Panther will own the 7th best opening of all-time at the domestic box office behind Captain America: Civil War ($179M). The pic is also on track to beat Marvel’s Iron Man 3 ($174.1M 3-day, $185.4M 4-day). Beyond amazing, especially for this time of year, but this holiday always works in the majors’ favor: ComScore reports that 23% K-12 and 9% colleges are off today, figures which will respectively spike to 88% out and 34% out. Over four-days, Coogler’s Black Panther beats the first four days of F. Gary Gray’s Fate of the Furious’ debut by 86% (or $107.3M). Gray owned the previous opening record for a movie directed by an African American.

I would love a film that incorporated War Machine and Falcon beyond their roles as "best buds to Iron Man/Cap"

Or both ;)

I guess having Scarlett in the role helped there too.

With the explosive THU night launch for #BlackPanther it is entirely possible that it will go on to challenge #Avengers: Age Of Ultron to become the 2nd highest grossing #Marvel film ever & #3 all-time among all superhero movies ever made. #BlackPantherMovie #WakandaForever

Well DC does have the rights to Icon and his story is based deeply in african american culture. I think Icon saw the end of slavery, has a black sidekick, and matches superman in a straight up overpowered fight.

He's basically to Supes what Black Panther is to Cap.
