WB has scheduled Nolan's third Batman for July 20, 2012. That's three weeks after Sony's Spider-Man reboot. So, how is that going to affect Spidey's overall box office?

Being in the middle of the Star Trek 2/Batman 3 Sandwich is going to be an issue

The reboot has no chance now unless it moves. Being a reboot is most likely gonna confuse the GA and after the last one was so hated?

This probably wouldn't even be an issue if Sony let Raimi do SM3 the way he wanted.

I wouldn't say the general audience hated Spider-Man 3. It still made $300+ million dollars at the domestic box office. You don't get that without some positive word of mouth.

I say scrap it and try to work out an extension with Marvel. 2013-2014 could be light years for them. It's better business. They'd be better off with a distribution deal unless they are seriously considering low balling the budget.

SONY is right now saying, "damn. We should have done Spider-Man 4 with Sam Raimi in 2011."

This movie will get demolished in its current slot. In hollywood your only as good as your last film.

One film is following the most sucesfull comic book film ever the other is following spider-man 3 and is actually a reboot which is confusing enough to alot of the GA.

To be clear no hate in this post i did thoroughly enjoy the 1st two spider-man films.

If Sony is smart, they'll swap out Spider-Man for Memorial Day weekend and Men in Black 3 for the July 4th weekend. Opening right behind Star Trek 2 is damn foolish either way (The reboot was an across-the-isle blockbuster, and that sequel - even if it's **** - is going to do gangbuster business) and then having Dark Knight Rises' shadow looming...

But they'd stand a better chance with the King of July 4th in that slot instead of a new webslinger.

Star Trek hasn't been confirmed for next year has it? If not then Sony doesn't have to worry about it.

Idk, there hasn't been much news on the sequel since then though. You would think if the sequel was going to be released at the end of June next year, they would have a director and be pre-production by now.

I will give my guess on what the domestic haul will be on this when we get some trailers. Right now though, I will guarantee that this won't make as much as any of the previous films did domestic...yes even in 3D.

CHAESTER.. QUIT PRESENTING YOUR OPINION AS FACT!!!!!!! lol :woot:

*couldn't resist... even though IMO, I think your opinion (which you present as fact... "guarantee" :cwink: ) will come true. Hope not, but think so.

The movie may be amazing, but it has too many things working against it to top any of Raimi's movies financially. Quality wise is yet to be seen. I will also guarantee that the sun will rise tomorrow morning. It might not happen but I guarantee that it will. That isn't a fact, that is a strong guess.

And my bet with Ninja still stands:D I can't wait to see that sig!

This will probably beat Star Trek 2, but it stands no chance against The Dark Knight Rises. People LOVED Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Nolan just handles that series brilliantly. Im not saying Marc Webb is a bad director, but against the final movie in the Batman trilogy, I dont see it at #1 in the box office

Well it's good to see you "admit" that it's JUST your OPINION(guess). We wouldn't want certain posters to get upset with people stating their "opinions" as facts now would we. :woot:

Now as far as the reboot duplicating the success of the first (Raimi) films (box office numbers), that will largely depend on the a) competition b) word of mouth c) villain d) critical acclaim e) etc.

I think IF we get a good villain (read Lizard), and a convincing villain (read CGI realistic Lizard), AND a more serious/realistic approach to the storylines and characters, we could get good word of mouth on this movie. If so, the numbers could be surprising. The down side to even that though (in correlation to performing up to the box office numbers of the first 3) is the competition. Sandwiched between Star Trek and TDKR (with only 2 weeks basically before it opens after the reboot) will limit the box office numbers no doubt. Especially in this day and age where the box office numbers are so front end loaded.

But with good word of mouth, a quaility product, and some buzz leading into it.. those 2 weeks should be a lot of fun. Hope so (as a Spider-Man fan). My main concern is simply to get a good "Spider-Man" movie out of the reboot. The rest will take care of itself.

I have little doubt that TDKR will beat the reboot at the box office, but I still wonder if there will be any backlash from a non-Joker Batman movie, and how Catwoman is handled/portrayed. Costumed love... bad thing IMO, Nolan or no Nolan. And of course, I know little to nothing about Catwoman from the comics either.. soo... costumed love could be out of the pic any way (hope so for the film's sake).

I just don't see this making more than 350 domestic no matter how good it is. It will still make a profit no doubt...but how much of a profit is yet to be seen. If I had to guess at this point in time, I would guess 225-250 million domestic.

With Stark Trek 2 coming out the weekend before and Batman 3 coming out two weeks after it, I just think it is between a rock and a hard place. Once Batman 3 comes out, this will be an after thought.

Just saw Raimi's Spider-man 1 and I gotta say... it's a good movie. The characters may be different from the comics... but... I just think they should have waited a little bit longer before frickin' rebooting one of the most profitable/popular franchises in movie history. I understand that Sony would have lost the rights... but that puts this reboot in even worse lighting then those set pics. Raimi may cause us to roll our eyes every once in a while, focus way to much on crying scenes, and enjoy watching Tobey Maguire dance a little too much, but his trilogy is great. Marc Webb has his hands full is all I have to say. I'm not sure how the general audience is going to react. Even if it's a good film, I don't know how I'm going to react...
