Comics The Build to ASM #700

That art is so much better than the art in 699.

agreed... Richard Elson's clean art just blows away Horrendo Ramos' art...

too bad Elson couldn't have stayed on ASM till #700... his art in #698 was just so refreshing like a breath of fresh air, whereas to ME, Ramos' stuff is like a bad fart...

any spoilers for ASM 699?

It was all from Peter's perspective in Ock's body. He was saved from cardiac arrest in the first few pages then figured out how to access Ock's memories. This is how he discovered how and when the switch happened.

It started in ASM 600 when he used Ock's Octo-Bots against him then again in Spider-Island. Ock was able to use this against Spider-Man and that gold octobot seen since the end of Ends of the Earth zapped Spidey off panel after the Hobgoblin fight in 697.

Peter then controlled the gold octobot remotely and put out a broadcast (as Ock) to all villains offering a 6 million dollar reward for busting him out of prison. A group of Hydro-Man, Scorpion and Trapster bust him out and the issue ends with them heading out to track Ock in Spidey's body.

Alright, we get it. You don't like Ramos' art.

Some of us do...

I agree exponentially.

Remember, I was one of the people who defended Ramos' art. I think he has gotten better but 699 was a step backwards. Slott and others said Ramos' art is amazing in 700...we'll have to see. The lack of quality in 699 really doesn't fill me with hope.

Well the previews of 700 looked the best I've seen from him so we'll see.

After reading 699, I gotta say that I'm starting to think the Superior Spider-Man is...

A fuse of Doc Ock and Peter. I say this because 699 showed Peter starting to think and talk like Ock a little. (The end when he nearly breaks out Connors.) The dialogue there was very Otto-like. I'm starting to think Ock's plan wasn't completely fool-proof and their personalities will blend.

Not much love here for Ramos' art I see. Although I'm not a fan of his work in general, I do think he has improved over time and I hope the improvement can continue.

Now onto #699:

A good issue. Nicely building up to #700 and I kinda liked the fact that the whole issue was dedicated to Peter coming to terms with the body switch with Otto-Spidey nowhere to be seen. That kind of helps us to get into the mindset of how trapped Peter is feeling at the moment, wondering what Otto is doing with his body and what terrible things he's doing to the people he loves. I liked the little imagination section with Otto-Spidey breaking Cap's neck in particular. :D

It all leaves me wondering where #700 goes with this now. I have a feeling we're heading for a mind-merge of some kind between Peter and Otto in Peter's body. Obviously with Otto's body dying his mind will have nowhere to go even if Peter has the chance to get rid of him. So Superior may be a sort of Jekyll & Hyde Spider-Man and that's why he makes the changes to his costume and personality etc.

All in all I'm thoroughly enjoying the story thus far and can't wait for the next installment.

Well, maybe Peter finally is going away for a long, long time...

" Life goes on. Peter Parker fans will sort of fade away over the months and years, and you'll have a bunch of people who only know the new cast."

"This has been in the works for a few years now, and the plan always was to make this the last issue and make it a definitive end for the character. It's been 50 years,a helluva good run. The 700th issue happening around the same time was just sort of serendipitous.

This type of thing has been done in comics before during the Silver Age when Julie Schwartz, Gardner Fox, John Broome and the guys at DC brought out new versions of classic characters like the Flash and Green Lantern. That's the kind of worldbuilding scenario we're playing with."

:csad:

Oh my, there's a twitter account called Save Peter Parker

And they're tweeting to Dan, the guy doesnt deserve this sort of crap

I think people need to take a test before being allowed to use a computer and/or iPhone...

Yes, it has got to the point where in order to have internet access, one must be able to pass some sort of intelligence test.

Amen, brother!!!

I've really enjoyed Dan's run on ASM, ever since Big Time. Listening to the harshness of naysayers is really bugging me, this time.

I mean, it's not like Dan is rewriting 20 years of stories by making Peter make a deal with the devil, and it's not like he is having Gwen retroactively have Norman Osborn's children.

In other words: WORSE THINGS HAVE HAPPENED.

Also, Superior Spider-Man looks pretty sweet. Add to that that Wolverine gets two titles with the Marvel NOW launch, and I wouldn't be shocked if Peter is going to be given a break, and then a new Amazing Spider-man title will launch in a few months. Just my guess.

So in today's ASM 699.1

It looks like the Lizard does possibly escape at the end but goes his separate way from Morbius. Connors could pop up in 700 and play a role in the conclusion and/or creation of the man behind the Superior mask.
