Comics The Build to ASM #700

Aloha,
So did anyone read #696? Things are heating up. I like the idea that Peter is looked upon as Spidey's Tech support. Two Hobgoblins in one story. You just know these guys are going to eventually kill each other or die trying.
Spidey rules
I only just got 696 in the mail. Pretty nice stuff. Although, I still think that at some point, we're gonna see death of Roderick Kingsley.

beautiful...

I'm never a big fan of those weird perspective shots.

I remember that image, it's in the back of the Essential Spider-Man Volume 1. Not the Superior part of course, though. I like how all that applies now... Epic and surprise filled, and the "New Amazing"... back then, it was because they were cancelling Amazing Fantasy, but now it's Amazing Spider-Man that they're cancelling.

Reading #698 again, imagining [blackout]Otto in Spidey's body[/blackout] makes so much more sense. The issue is written so incredibly well that all the small changes Slott makes don't even go noticed until you finish the issue. It's really rather brilliant.

I'm very excited to possibly owning this... :yay:

what makes it even sweeter is that it took fifty years for Steve Ditko's rejected cover to the final issue of Amazing Fantasy to FINALLY make it to publication...

and even weirder that it's to be the cover to the "final" issue of Amazing Spider-Man...

yeah right, like THAT'S gonna be a permanent thing... my ass... :whatever:

as much as I like Kirby, THIS is the cover that SHOULD have been on Amazing Fantasy #15... Ditko's interpretation and look of Spidey was more suitable than Kirby's cover, IMHO...

I've always felt that despite all the magnificent, powerful, grand and epic-looking characters that Kirby drew, he just could never master drawing Spider-Man, who has the look of the everyman, down-to-earth superhero...

really looking forward to this cover, as well...

I didn't like the eyes on Kirby's cover. It looked nothing like they did in the comic itself.

How can I get this variant?

Contact your local comic store and say you want it asap because htey have order in an absolute crapload of #700 in order to get that variant

How can I get this variant?

do you have a genie lamp laying around somewhere?... :o

seriously, it IS possible, but it's got a ratio of 1:200

so if your store gets around 200 books, MAYBE there'll be just ONE copy in the bunch... MAYBE...

I'm after it myself and several stores have already told me it's ALMOST gonna be an impossibility to score it...

so I'm betting we'll be paying some high prices thru our comic shops or online somewhere...

and if you're buying thru ebay, then you'll more than likely REALLY be fooked with some of the outrageous prices that I'm SURE some of those dick-head sellers will be selling it for...

so good luck to you and me, huh?

i got quoted a good couple of hundred for it :/

and I actually saw a potential ebay price of $1600...

effin' ridiculous price on a book that's not even out yet...

but it's a Ditko cover, so there ya go...

The problem is my local comic store doesnt sell that many ASMs to begin with (Batman and USM mainly as of late), so meeting the demand in order to guarantee a ditko is quite a stretch and would cost me bout 750

the only chance to POSSIBLY score one would be from a franchise comic store chain, but guarantee you that they'll overcharge like crazy for it...

regardless, thru a comic shop or online, we're gonna be paying up the ass for a copy...

and it'll be just as rough for anyone who's looking for a Quesadilla cover... THAT'S got a ratio of 1 copy in every 300... so THAT'LL go just as high...

I'm getting the Ditko cover from my store for $200... which I think is fair for that ratio...

And the JQ ratio (which was 1:700) went down to 1:100, making it more affordable...

:yay:

which now means that the Ditko cover is the most prized of all the variants now...

50 years later and Ditko in demand... I LOVE it... sucks because of the inflated prices on his variant, but I love it that a classic artist's work like his blows all the other variants away for demand...

It is great...but at the same time i wish it was cheaper :P

...Or here's a real groan inducer. Maybe Doc Ock is his real father.
Since I heard there was a big twist at the end of #698 before I read it, I actually started to think that's what was coming when "Peter" entered the room and "Otto" started mumbling his name. I felt a real Luke/Vader vibe in that scene. :woot:

Seriously though I'm really excited with the direction the story's going in the run up to Superior #1 and I hope Superior becomes as interesting and engaging as Amazing has been recently. I'm really liking what Dan Slott's been writing and with this story carrying on into Superior it should be pretty good.

Having looked at the cover for Superior #2, it looks likely that Otto-Spidey's going to be around for a while to come. Should be pretty cool.

I'm actually very excited for tomorrow. :O
