BvS The BvS Ultimate Cut Thread - Part 3

Snyder's not Nolan, that much we all can agree upon.

Got my Batman V Superman : Ultimate Edition Bluray today, the pack contains two Blurays, one Theatrical version and one Ultimate Edition.

It's hilarious how often Civil War/Marvel comes up in this thread.

But those directors are known to be run of the mill.

Snyder is a hack because he tries, even with the best possible resources or material at his disposal, and fails over and over again

It's a trend with him. Not to mention the way he talks up his own films ... he thinks of himself in the Nolan class of film maker and he's not. He conveys his story, characters and themes like an ADD frat boy.

He's a moron who thinks he's making high art. That's what makes him a hack. If had any self awareness ala someone he's more akin to as a film maker, someone like Michael Bay, I think things would work out in his favor as he wouldn't be held to such lofty standards.
He made a comment about not liking "normal" comic books because there wasn't any sex and violence. That, to me, says everything you need to know about him and his approach to these properties.

Honestly, the UC is better but to me it didn't solve the major problems of the movie. It's still overstuffed, messy, confusing for the general audiences, underdeveloped in several important aspects and still spends way too much time exploring issues that don't matter that much. We're talking about a 3 hour Batman v Superman movie where Batman and Superman interact for 5 or 6 minutes. It's a 3 hour movie where it feels we don't really get enough of anything. How is that possible?

Finally watched the Ultimate Cut. Haven't watched BvS in Theaters, so I don't know what scenes were added or how much it was improved over the Theatrical cut. All I know is that I won't sit through 3 hours of a bore fest again, with characterizations I can't stand, and capped off with tons of destruction porn.

Thought it started off interesting, but to me the Movie went downhill the very moment Jimmy Olsen got shot in the face. At that moment you know what Snyder thinks of your comics.

I'd probably give it a 6-7/10. Passable, but ultimately forgettable. The only thing that got me excited and my blood pumping, was seeing Wonder Woman in action and hearing her theme.

The way WB is rushing these Movies, I wonder if we can get an Infinite Crisis after Justice League. This Cinematic Universe needs a reset bad.

The film needs Batman and Superman to never get a real chance to talk in order to make its point that good wins and hope wins when people talk to each other. Both Batman and Superman are more easily manipulated by Lex because so much of their impressions of the other are based on myth, gossip, and lies. Conflict is resolved when these two heroes can find a way to connect and actually hear each other. As Senator June Finch said, “In a democracy, good is a conversation, not a unilateral decision.”

That being said, I thought their conversation at the fundraiser party was fun and revealing. And the small things that passed between them after their fight was over were charming, too.

Finally saw the UC, and yeah it's definitely a better movie than the TC which I already enjoyed. As a Superman fan, this cut just felt much more satisfying as got more of both Superman and Clark.

The movie flowed much better as well, despite being longer, it actually felt shorter watching it due to how much better things flowed. It still has issues of course. I still think it was too soon to use Doomsday, and by extension the death storyline, as it's only the 2nd movie. I also am still not a huge fan of the version of Doomsday we got. I still don't think much of Eisenbergs Lex either. But here his plan, while still a bit convulted, made a lot more sense. And you could see just how he was manipulating things much more.

But overall, this is the cut we should have got in cinemas, as it improves the flow and movie in general a good bit.

i'm such an easy fanboy to please, one of my favorite moments is when clark uses his super-hearing to listen in on batman and alfred. the mere act of seeing superman eavesdrop on batman made me grin like a kid.

Okay, so my ultimate edition Blu-Ray finally came last week, and I watched the movie yesterday.

As someone who actually enjoyed the theatrical version, I have to say the Ultimate version is SO much better. The movie runs much smoother, explains areas in more detail, and I honestly cant fault it.

After watching the ultimate edition I will never watch the theatrical version again, its not everybodys cup of tea, but I certainly love this movie :)

You know what amazes me even more after the 2nd viewing if the UC? Despite being 30 mins longer, it actually feels shorter than the TC while watching it because the scenes and story flow so much better.

i felt more engaged with the story and characters while watching the UC.

i think it has a lot to do with the smoother pace , less out of whack editing, and all the clark and superman scenes being added back in.

still wish they teased the future JL members through some other way. watching video clips through email seem sort of lame. lol.

If anything, and we know Snyder wouldn't have done this based on the deleted scene with Lex, but the whole Justice League cameos could've easily been a post-credits scene. Just cut right before we see Diana watching the clips in the actual film, and the stinger after or mid-credits could be her watching the footage.

I really don't want and dislike post credits scenes as I think they are tacky 99% of the time, unfortunately it looks like WB may have caved, hopefully Snyder continues to resist and we don't get one for JL and whatever they want to tell us they put in the movie even if it does a little fade to black sinister end scene thing and not put it in the credits.

I have yet to see the Ultimate Cut but i did see a poster promoting the release at a train station last week. The poster is basically the UC's cover with the trinity.

Finally got a copy of the Blu Ray Ultimate Cut- along with Winter Soldier- yesterday since the Best Buy near me had it on sale for around $16 bucks. Hoping to check it out sometime hopefully this weekend.

I didn't see any improvement in the UC to be honest, it's the same movie I hate, just stretched a half hour longer with more useless scenes.

And something to say about Clark talking to Bruce for the useless fight scene that the movie is named after:
"Bruce, we have no time, I will spill out to you why I need your help"
*Fists fly over for minutes instead of going to the point*

That nonsense moves like those 7 long advertisements than run for a stretched time after one says "I'll tell you the secret of that thing", and spends minutes of useless prattle that goes nowhere until he/she says "buy the book to find the secret", but instead we're treated to the foolishly placed "Thave.. MARTHA" and "WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME?".

last but not least, i finally watched the UC...

i don't know... maybe i was tired... i felt it was really long... and i can't finish it!!! or maybe i have watched it numerous times in the cinema and got tired of it??

i felt it has too many sub-stories... scattering around... it took too long to get to the the capitol scenes...

anyway i think all the clark, lois, perry and the investigation in Gotham scenes are gold and it's just silly to cut them away.

i felt the batmobile scene is really really too long! from batman standing on the post to him jumping out of the car in his bat cave is easily 10 minutes long!!! felt really dragging. it can be easily cut into half... (the intention is just to show a cool batmobile anyway)
and why did they need to have so much heavy weaponry to just transport a radioactive rock???

and i still felt the JL cameos should be at the post credits...

Agreed, Batmobile scene is boring, never thought that I will ever see a scene involving Batmobile that felt this boring.

It was too long and should have been edited.

you can cut the whole Batmobile scene out of the movie easily.
i would remove the Batmobile chase, Kightmare, JL videos out of UC and you got solid 2.5hrs TC.

but the 1st encounter of supes & bat must remain. it was really cool! especially Clark learned it in UC that batman couldn't be stopped by pen.

i have this theory why superman was late to meet lex at the scoutship. i think he was hovering about the harbor and watching the whole rescue scenes... just to ensure there was no accident and his mother was truly saved... :D

Okay, having finally watched the Ultimate Edition, I can say that this version does feel more...complete. For the first 30 minutes, though, I couldn't tell the difference between this and the theatrical version. Then I realized that I had put in the wrong disc.

But while there are still things I wish had been axed altogether, like the Jolly Rancher bit or Granny's Peach Tea, things like Jimmy getting a proper introduction, Lois and Clark doing some form of journalistic research- even if Jena Malone making the discovery about the lead wheelchair doesn't explain how Clark didn't hear the bomb- and Clark checking in on the woman who knew the guy who had been branded, Clark helping rescue workers after the explosion, the woman who had been paid off by Lex...those little touches helped build out the characters.

Not by a metric ton and until I sit down and watch the theatrical cut again, I wonder if I would notice these differences. That said, this does feel like a fuller movie. It doesn't fix the issues Dawn of Justice already had, but this did have more opportunities for the characters to do something than the original version did. That's at least appreciated.
