BvS The BvS Ultimate Cut Thread - Part 3

Also, has the internet done away with the "cult" movie for the most part?

Information is instantly disseminated. You can now get word of mouth through social media.

Looking at Best Cult movie polls, it sorta stop around the time of the rise of internet usage.

You have your Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs and Fight Club of the 90s. However, it seems to slow to a crawl since then. Donnie Darko was 2001. The Room was 2003. Serenity was 2005.

I'd say that the internet has transformed cult status. Movies can now become "cult hits" almost immediately, since the small but passionate fanbase can be established instantly, rather than over years via word of mouth. I suppose you could require a "test of time" standard, but that is still a different thing than the old cult movie.

You'd be wrong if you thought the internet stopped cult movies from existing. Here is an example of recent cult movies

Bone tomahawk
What we do in the shadows
Mud
Chronicle
Don Jon
Warm Bodies
Battleship
Pacific Rim
The worlds end
Speed Racer

I do think there's more of a quick ignite instead of the slow burn over time that cult movies experienced before the internet.

However, if you put the words "chronicle, trank and cult" the first search strikes a line through the word cult.

Some of these may be on someones's cult list, but I wasn't finding any of them past 2001 on first page searches best of all time cult movies.

Most I know in person enjoyed BvS, only a handful didn't. And that handful were already Affleck-haters before he was even cast (though one admitted he was surprised how good Affleck turned out to be, so there's that). I did like the Ultimate Cut more, but only a little bit. I didn't see the theatrical cut as a mess like the internet and critics acted like it was, so the Ultimate Cut only seemed slightly better edited to me, plus I liked seeing some of the extra stuff. It's rare for me to prefer a theatrical cut over a directors/extended/ultimate cut, so of course I bought the UC.

Just watched this again for the first time in months and by god did I forget how much I love this movie. I really cannot freaking wait til Justice League.

I don't think I've ever seen any film, period, with such a wide spectrum of reactions. There's a lot that love the movie, a lot that like it, a lot that dislike it and a lot that passionately hate it.

Yeah I saw this again last week.

For a while, I was hoping Justice League has a brighter environment and was a little worried I didn't get that from the CC teaser. After watching BvS again, I realize, I don't mind the dark color palette at all. I am up for one more dark looking movie.

Agreed, I wouldn't mind another dark movie for JL. But I don't think WB will allow it.

Concept art of the Bat creature from Bruce's dream in BvS:

Jump scares are cheap and easy. I'm tired of them in modern horror films, and this was no different. It wasn't a bad concept (a giant bat coming out of a grave, in Bruce's nightmare) but the CGI looked really goofy.

Just curious.....

Are there numerous people who love some of the added material and who hate some of it?

Or do the folks who like the movie tend to love all the added stuff and those who don't like the movie don't care for any of the added stuff.

I loved about half and thought the other have wasn't needed. Hate to say that I think there is a good 2 1/2 cut that deletes material from both the theatrical and extended cuts.

I've never seen anything like this either. The only thing that is clear is everyone's else's opinion is objectively wrong!!! Ha.

I know the point of this scene but I suppose it was my least favourite scene if I had to pick one.

That part of the film made me jump out of my skin on first viewing it was so loud when Man Bat broke out the grave.

Numerous people in the theater where I attended screamed at that scene. :woot:

Well, it was not CGI.

Haha yeah it was funny people in mine did too.

Some people just enjoy taking a pop at everything they can with this movie.

Funny thing is that if you watch the VFX reel for BvS and MOS you find that most things you think are VFX are real and the things you think are real are VFX...:cwink:
