I've stopped watching No Ordinary Family, but I'm still with The Cape.

True but No Ordinary Family has the star power is is more family friendly which is why it will last a little longer it is like watching The Incredibles. If not for that then the Cape IMO would have a longer run. But once again nethier will have that long of lasting power because IMO they are not based off of actually comics. Birds of Pray failed because at the time the heroes in that series wasn't too popular (expect for Babs) and they changed the Huntress around as well. Although the series was picking up towards its end. Lois and Clark failed after four seasons because the network got upset that they couldn't keep the show once WB formed the WB and wanted to move the show there so the current network tanked the series big time even through it had a strong following when it could be found through all the time shifts. Smallville has lasted not because of how good the show is but because of the name of the hero it carries. Had it been the same show just using a different name it would have been canceled after the fans got fed up one to many times of the star whining about when he could be with someone who liked him for him. Heroes died because of the writers strike and never recovered from that. NOF has a better chance than the Cape once again because its family friendly and is like a live version of the Incredibles as I said before. Take that away and that show will fail as well. The cape comes off as a rip off of Daredevil mixed with Batman..Really? After two episodes of No Ordinary Family I was bored to death. After two episodes of The Cape I wasn't wow'd or anything but I was interested enough to look out for the next episode. If anything I see The Cape lasting longer what with it being far less boring.

The character writing is so poorly done.sighTrue but No Ordinary Family has the star power is is more family friendly which is why it will last a little longer it is like watching The Incredibles. I'm inclined to agree, but I'm enjoying it.I watch NOF when i'm bored and I have no other shows. The character writing is so poorly done.sigh
I don't watch The Cape simply because it's not gonna survive the season.
I bet you had Smallville gone under any different name it would not have made it past season 3 maybe 4. Him being Superman carried a lot of weight and still does pretty much if not for that it would not still be on the air. TW or not and this is coming from someone who loves the show.I think you're misattributing blame here. If The Cape and No Ordinary Family fail, it is not solely because it's not based on an established comic book series. Yes, having a built-in fanbase helps at the start but not having one doesn't prevent it from succeeding (likewise, having one doesn't prevent it from failing). Using that logic, The Heroes should have tanked since it wasn't derived from comics. Yet, it's first season got high viewership and good reviews. It was only in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th seasons (i.e. once the show was actually more established) when viewer numbers started slipping. And this has largely been blamed on the quality of writing. Had that been maintained, there's no reason why the show couldn't have continued.
With Smallville; yes, being based on the Superman comics probably helped the show in the beginning. However, its longevity is not because of this but because it tapped into the CW audience. I reckon hardcore Superman comic fans probably form a small minority of the show's audience. Meaning, most of them aren't watching the show because of Superman but because of Tom Welling and co.

The fact that it's not a very good show?![]()

Actually hardcore Superman fans are split on Smallville much like they are split on Superman Returns its just all a matter of who you ask.Hardcore Superman fans tend to not like Smallville. So it's definitely not them that's kept them on the air.
One Tree Hill and SV and shows like them have lasted so long because of the network they are on. Had they been on NBC or FOX or CBS, etc they would have done long ago. A good example of a TV series that still was good but killed off because of the Network it was on is Everybody Hates Chris or The Game (mainly because they were too dark for the CW IMO).
Smallville plain and simple would not have lasted if not for the Superman name. It would have had a following no doubt but it would not have lasted because it would have came off as a cheap Roswell/Dawson Creek rehash and would have not made it to season 4. Hell as poor as the cape is it still pulls in better numbers than Smallville and it you want to play thats because its on a different network than on a different network if Smallville once again was not a Superman show it would have been gone after season 2 if you see how quickly they are cutting shows.
I still haven't had a chance to watch "No Ordinary Family".I've stopped watching No Ordinary Family, but I'm still with The Cape.

Wouldn't this also likely be a contributing factor as to why Smallville has lasted so long?
These are some very strong claims you keep repeating and yet, I still see no evidence. You can't just keep repeating things and expect others to be convinced when not the first time round.
Going back to how big an influence having a previous fanbase is to a superhero-style show's success, shows like Buffy, Charmed and The 4400 seem to suggest that you don't need to have a built-in fanbase in order to get a show off the ground. And if you explore non-primetime dramas, shows like Avatar, Power Rangers (during its heyday, most Americans hadn't heard of, let alone watched, a Super Sentai show) and most action-based anime provide further evidence. As for staying power, this has even less to do with its original source material and more to do with the overall quality of the show and the audience's drive to return week after week.
