Captain Marvel The Captain Marvel box office prediction thread

My initial vote was for 700 million + but if I was going to predict it now I would say its gonna push close to 900 million. Maybe more.

Hilariously, four people voted for a mere $100 million plus worldwide. That must be wishful thinking. :D:

It’s hopefully going to blast well past that just on US opening weekend!

I don't see how this doesn't crush it at the BO. It's been so dead for the past two months and this is definitely being positioned to be the fist must-see movie of the year. The projections only keep increasing as well which is also a great sign ,and from the early reactions this movie sounds like its going to be a huge crowdpleaser.

And this is the official warmup to the biggest event in the MCU project.

Will shoot for a 700-800M range on the strength of the MCU brand and movie as a whole as opposed to Brie herself.

I voted $600M back in March 2018 because the MCU has yet to have a film make lower than that since Ant-Man in 2015. With good initial reactions and ticket sales and the release schedule around CM, it stands to make much more than that, likely closer $800M.

It's driving me insane how idiot MRA incel youtubers are claiming that the projected OW gross has dropped by 60M due to Larson's comments because they either don't understand or purposefully ignore the fact that different outlets have different forecasts and that long-range projections are generally just ballpark numbers.
I wonder if they tried this for TFA and BP too lol. I think they will end with egg on their face again.

I've never rooted for a movie to make a billion as much as this one...
I was rooting pretty hard for BP last year due to all the trolls and prior to that, it was The Avengers just to have the concept of a superhero franchise team-up film actually work.

Funny how hindsight is 20/20 that may have been my prior film I wanted to make a billion...and now they got 3 Oscars....and STILL nothing but "Overrated". This will be the next year of "overrated" comments. But at least then the BP overrated comments will lessen lol

It would be so strange/sad if CM doesn't make as much as Aquaman because Infinity War cannibalizes it's box-office legs

Aqualad has had 3 uncontested months to make it's bank, I hope CM can get there in a month and a half

That's incorrect. It opened against pretty strong competition. There were loads of articles even saying WB should move it away from Marry Poppins and Spiderverse.

Also, Shazam will eat into the BO of Captain Marvel. It opens a month after it.

Because of the largely child-age audience, animated movies seem to draw from a different pool of revenue, and they don't tend to impact a tentpole's BO that much
And did anyone really ever believe Mary Poppins was going to be that big a draw?

I do hope that other Captain Marvel doesn't have too big an impact on Carol's movie though, and I dunno how smart it was on DC's part to release that one mere weeks before Endgame, Shazam's legs are gunna get cut right out from under it... idk, too many damn cbm's on the way, lol

Gotta agree with Endgame cutting off Shazam's legs. WB would be wise to move it up at least a week. Very silly of them.

IMO anything it cannibalises it will have made up for in boosting by association in the first place. I imagine there will be a fair few people doing double bills too (and even some less hardcore GA guys doing it but not on the same day or weekend).

Yeah, it doesn't make sense for a CBM to be released just before one of the biggest events in CBM history. I'm definitely seeing it but it's going to lose a lot of screens and potential viewers from a similar pool soon after release as it stands.

I think the only one that’s not gonna be even the slightest bit hurt by this scheduling will be Endgame. Captain Marvel and Shazam! both would probably benefit from a couple more weeks to themselves without another big CBM coming for their legs, but I also think both will still do quite well in the long run despite this.

I hope Captain Marvel makes a billion but I'm not sure I see it happening. I think 800-900 is a good bet though.

$800-900m is still big bucks for a new superhero film so that would be a great result. $1B is waiting in the wings if the film turns out to be much better than expected.

Depends on if it breaks out in China it’s lucky that Wandering Earth madness is waning though I still see it probably make the usual 100m - 120m MCU solo money perhaps 150m top. Without that crazy run in China even Aquaman wouldn’t touch 1 billion.

I think Dumbo will do that before. That looks really interesting.
