Captain Marvel The Captain Marvel box office prediction thread

Don't be so sure! This is phase 1 of the boycott! This is the "lulling phase". They are attempting to lull Disney and Marvel into a false sense of security. And look, it's working! Disney's morale has never been higher. Soon, everyone will demand refunds, and the second weekend will feature Brie Larson renouncing the movie to become the leader of an evil feminist nation called Feminasia!
It'll happen...because a bunch of losers wrote a fan fic about it, and they have no concrete evidence or support!
GO TEAM MAN-BOY!!
I can’t wait for Phase 5 of the boycott which kicks in when they have driven it to the billion dollar mark. Every uber-successful film needs a boycott these days.

I don't think stupidity should be met with counter stupidity, but maybe that's me.

2018 was a massive year for the MCU, 2019 will be even bigger.
If Endgame matches IW, then FFH needs to beat AM&W by more than any shortfall in CM to BP. Certainly doable, and I’m hoping Endgame can make gains on IW, especially in many overseas territories.

Endgame is going to be an absolute MONSTER in Asia.

It's not stupidity when it's accurate.

Well not entirely accurate, the boycott was by a few white men (not all). The rest of us non-causation men had nothing to do with, and should be excluded from any ridicule.

To be fair it was just the manbabies. Plenty of decent white men who would have thought the same about those boycotting losers I'm sure.

Agreed, that's why I edited my post since it came across as referring to all white men. It was just a small contingent of white men who were being petulant.

Yeah I agree. Some trolls online made a big deal out of this. The dumb thing is the film shows both strong male and female characters. There's no overt messages about anything which is why it seems to be making the kind of money it's making.

This was also the most I've enjoyed SLJ in a long time. He added a lot to the film and his rapport with Brie was great.

I'm a white male and didn't boycott it. This was a manufactured outrage by something that didn't exist. What's funny is one of the themes in the film is about the manufacturing of a crisis.

Unfortunately, I don't see Disney following it up in 2020. But how can you?

Agreed, there's no matching Endgame 1 year after the IW/Endgame 1-2 punch. Especially when Endgame also has 2 strong supports in CM and Spidey (unlike last year where IW had 1 that was slightly weaker boxofficewise in AM&W). We always expected the final Avengers films in this what I call Megaphase (phases 1-3) to be unbeatable worldwide by any other MCU films, and so there is no shame in seeing a significant decline in 2020 as the rebuilding work starts again towards a new climax.

OD in Brazil:

Captain Marvel: R$11.6m
Aquaman: R$7.8m
Black Panther: R$7m
Wonder Woman: R$3.25m
Aquaman made $36m in Brazil so this bodes very well!

Better. It doesn't insult half the population. Just the rather small number of Brie Larson haters blowing what she said completely out of proportion. Although I think what she said(particularly the way she said it ) is worthy of some criticism.

Ok no more thread derailment. Let's get some math nerds in here to talk about multipliers :D

Anyhoo, the number crunchers at BOT are saying it's unlikely to hit the 160m mark, they say deadline is factoring in a much softer drop than what MCU usually gets. They say 150-155m is much more likely.

I had the feeling that $160m might be a stretch too far and asking for too many things to align. Although I had that feeling with BP's opening weekend too but in that case everything did align and then some lol. That said I would be absolutely happy with $150m and not a penny more. A penny less and I will have to rage and find something to boycott of course. :cwink:

If you want to discount DC making $15M more domestically in 2016, they actually have a chance to be the top grossing studio ww within the genre.
