Captain Marvel The Captain Marvel box office prediction thread

Endgame will be even bigger than IW. It isn’t often a tent pole franchise ends a film on a Netflixesque cliffhanger. I’m dying to see it and more excited for Endgame than I was for IW. Gonna do ar least 2 maybe 3 billion . Could even break Avatar’s record for domestic box office.

I digress CM only makes Endgame more intriguing. But I hope she doesn’t deliver the killing blow but plays her role and not stealing the original 4’s thunder. I trust the Russos

Hold on there tiger. It might be bigger then IW (and I think there's a good chance of it), but 2B is a really big number and only a little something needs to go wrong. 3B? Can you send me your breakfast recipe? :yay:

The upper end is hard to predict. I would hope that it won't go below $700m dom and $2B WW but if the film delivers on what everyone is looking for then it could do something crazy, being a uniquely positioned film.

With US coming this week, what would be a good drop?

Voted for 900 million but was hoping it would join the billy club.

I’m looking forward to the update to over $800m today, and then over $900m on Sunday. And we’re not even in the Endgame yet. :D:

In comparison:

THG: 33m
IM3: 35m
GotG2: 34m
Looks like Us is opening big then. CM is keeping pace with those films on the weekends and can hopefully smoke them on the weekdays.

Not a DC dig, but I see this going past Aquaman, maybe even Civil War.

I love this, but I am not looking forward to the whining when it knocks The Dark Knight out of the top ten.

Or maybe I am?

*waves hand* I am.

I love the Dark Knight. Its an awesome movie. But the degree that its fandom idolizes it, in the full ancient pagan meaning of the term. . . its off-putting. Especially since I believe a good large amount of that idolization is based on reasons and aspects ultimately unrelated to what makes the movie good.

Which is to say, its a great movie because it creates a story where every character and event serves as a symbolic representation of the ideological argument between the Batman and the Joker, and their fundamental positions on the nature of humanity. Its philosophical debate by way of vigilante justice and urban terrorism.

It is an *idolized* movie. . . in large part because it is both serious-looking and broadly popular, thus fulfilling the need of far too many people to have their love of comic books validated as "adult".
