Captain Marvel The Captain Marvel box office prediction thread

My signature here back in 2006 was “Marvel Studios > you.” Kinda wish I’d kept that for the entirety of my stint here.

I had a feeling they’d be huge well before we saw a single frame of Iron Man, but I had no idea they’d basically take over Hollywood lol.

I'm pretty sure it was from you that I first read it but .... Kevin Feige truly did build this empire in a cave with a box of scraps.

Come to think of it Talos was kind of a perfected version of the mandarin twist.

Agreed. If any part of the movie draws a long term hatedom like Slattery did, it'll be that.

( I mean, aside from the general sexist brigade, natch )

Yeah, especially if
CM is really in Endgame from the first act onwards
then there's no reason to keep her out of the trailers/promo, imo.
Having a character who has her own barnstorming film out right now will only help Endgame that bit more. I would be very surprised if she is kept under wraps again, especially when the IW credit scene made a big deal about her summoning.

Take this with a grain of salt for now but people over at BOT are predicting $15M for Tuesday. If it holds, it will be an amazing %36.25 rise from Monday!
Did they give any reason for why they think it will see a rise like that? Hopefully they are right.

CM will probably be in the new trailer as much as BP was in the IW trailer. The sell is that it’s the last one with the original six.

I highly recommend checking out Robert Storms video Captain Marvel is a MAJOR SUCCESS and the trolls DON'T LIKE IT..Especially if you don't like Geeks and Gamers :D:

I can't link it here because of strong language.

That’s the main part of the sell but I don’t think the original 6 would have got to IW numbers by themselves. This is bigger than that - a whole MCU film, and they should take advantage of every asset they have.

Boxofficemojo update for ref:

Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic: $164,420,196 33.6%
+ Foreign: $325,600,000 66.4%
= Worldwide: $490,020,196

Number of pre-sales along with similar past MCU performances. But as i said, it's still early to be sure.

When school is still in session and no holidays are in play, Tuesday usually rises from Monday. Maybe not that much, but there's usually a bit of a jump.

Yep, a normal-good rise would be around 25%-30%. Almost 37% rise is huge (as long as it's not followed by a huge Wednesday drop lol).

Morons anonymous....this guy wouldn't know arithmetic if the "metic" got stuck where only his proctologist could find it. Smart decisions have somehow become a negative....It only made 133M over the "true" weekend. LOL.

Maybe I shouldn't even be watching this tripe, but I wanted to find out what the neanderthals were thinking...google ******** morons for more...(sorry, I haven't been on the boards for awhile and didn't realize 3utt#urt morons wasn't allowed).

Oh right. If that happens it will be great, although quite unusual to see a drop like that on Monday followed by such a huge Tuesday bump (standard Tuesday bump is expected) . IM3 is one that we should keep an eye on, opening higher than CM and finishing on $409m. If CM is to get to that kind of figure or at least $400m, it will need to start making ground on IM3 at some point. If this bump has any truth to it then it would have already started clawing back significantly as IM3 saw a tiny Tuesday bump (0.2%).

Thanks. I'm aware of the usual Tuesday rise, but this seems way larger than I can remember seeing. I would have thought some other factor would need to be at play to explain the difference, or to explain the lower Monday. I certainly won't be complaining if we get that. That number by itself would change my final predictions for CM dom.

I know it's hard to resist mate, but if we watch they win. If a few million well meaning MCU fans click on links like this the creator goes viral (and can make a nice chunk of cash). Just bask in the positivity in places like this.

It's a little hard to find good comps for this movie because of the time of year and the size of the opening, but something around 35% would certainly be very good, I think.

B&tB had a 32.1% increase after a slightly larger Sunday to Monday drop (basically the same Sunday to Monday, really).

If you go on Twitter and search "Captain Marvel," you'll see a bunch of people talking about taking in matinees of CM today. Many of them seemed to be college students on spring break who've gone home and taken in the movie with their friends and family. That's why I can see how they're potentially getting a solid Tuesday bump.
