Captain Marvel The Captain Marvel box office prediction thread

One thing about Marvel Studios is that they believe in their characters and never really stop working on them. There was a time when people thought that the MCU really couldn't do anything special without RDJ as Iron Man. But now he's one beloved character among many, because the studio built up so many other characters, including Cap and Thor, to the point that they are also audience favorites.

Even a character like Hawkeye, who never really made much of an impression, is coming back and getting a revamp. Did they need to do that? No, they could have probably dropped him entirely, but that's just not how they approach the characters.

So they will keep working on Carol Danvers as well. I personally liked the movie a lot, even more the second time I saw it. But it's just the beginning.

When does this leave theatres? Could Marvel get a one two at the box office with this and Endgame? I feel like before Endgame comes out this will surely get a push from Tv spots featuring CM and maybe encouraging people to go and see this movie before they see Endgame, especially as it wont be out to view at home yet.

Considering they kept BP in theaters leading up to IW, I can see them doing the same with CM with EG. I guess it all depends on how leggy the film stays up until that point.

I never imagined that Captain Marvel would have already passed the $500 million mark in more or less than a week. And the 90s chick have yet to appear in Avengers movie.

Mar-Vellous.
Yes will be well clear by the time a week is up and getting closer to $600m! ($580m +). And then I could see a $200m + weekend.

You're right. Can't wait for the sequel, which I may or may not live long enough to see. Why have an egg today when you can have a hen tomorrow, is what wise people say.

Crossed $500m WW.

Yeah, but dip$#!t said it was front loaded and that it really only made 133M over the weekend because Thursday made 20M and....and.....y'know.....all kinds of things are wrong with it.

To me that just makes the conspiracy theories even sillier. What franchise is better equipped to roll through a one off failure than the MCU?

John Carter was supposed to kick start a franchise. Solo has at least temporarily put non-episodic Star Wars movies on hold. A Captain Marvel box office disappointment or failure would have been a tiny bump in the road that Endgame would have run right over.
You're making too much sense. Stop killing their conspiracy theory fun.

As a longtime fan of the Carol character, I could’ve never predicted this immediate success. I’m thrilled for it though and would love to see it cross a billion because this is a character that I want to see on screen for a long time.

Also, I can only hope that this encourages Marvel to make weirder and weirder movies! Hate on me all you want, but I’m already on board for a Ms. Marvel and Squirrel Girl teamup vs MODOK!

The fact that Captain Marvel will probably outgross X-Men: Days of Future Past (the most successful X-Men movie) this weekend :ninja:.

An 8.5m Wednesday would keep its trajectory above IM3 which did 8.1m on its first Wednesday, and that was in the summer movie season. As long as this pattern holds, it's gonna end up topping IM3's WW number of 1.21b

Poor Alita they decided to not even mention the 5th spot trolololol

Some number crunching from BOT:

$73mn would be 45% drop from True FSS. That's simply awesome. I doubt it will go that higher.

The film has been 5x Alita so far.
Till Monday : 33mn * 5 ~ 165mn CM
Tuesday: 3 * 5 ~ 14.6mn CM
Wednesday: 1.7 ~ 8.5mn CM
Assuming 8mn CM would be 5x of Alita's 1.6mn.

Alita did $12.4mn in 2nd weekend, 5x that would be 62mn but Alita had a muted Friday, may be due to HTTYD 3 and CM won't have that big Sunday drop.

Accounting all that, I still believe $68mn will be the 2nd weekend. If its $73mn, Of-course I will be happy.

What is up with that "Jeremy coming to you with a another video" dude at G&G ? Every fricking day he makes a video about Brie Larson or boycotting cap marvel. Did Larson beatup his mother or something ? He made another video celebrating the 70% plus drop on monday.....

I cannot see this movie NOT making a billion dollars.
