The Catwoman/Selina Kyle Casting Thread - Part 2

To play Devil's Advocate, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Thomas Polito's info is actually legitimate. The more likely concern IMO is that it's incomplete and/or outdated a bit. As others brought up before, his list of finalists for Batman was somewhat accurate, but it blatantly missed the guy who wound up getting the part.

A similar scenario seemed to have to have taken place more recently with his report that Jamie Foxx and Giancarlo Esposito were names he'd heard for a particular role, which was almost certainly for Commissioner Gordon, a part that came down between Mahershala Ali and Jeffrey Wright.

My guess is that the names Thomas got for Catwoman are also accurate and not by any means the result of him making stuff up as a number of folks here seem to be implying. But it's most likely not up-to-date and likely also incomplete.

I'm sure most of those names are on that short list, they're obvious fancasts so it makes sense. I just hope there's more (like Sonoya :).

Having two candidates on there that have featured prominently in billion-dollar Marvel films gives me pause. It is my understanding that the only reason WB was willing to humor Nicholas Hoult for Batman was that he was unrecognizable half the time in the X-Men films, and those films didn't exactly light the BO on fire.

I like Tessa Thompson, but if you cast her as Catwoman and people go see the movie and their first thought is "That's Valkyrie," you're going to have a hard time overcoming that. I don't necessarily like the idea of taking options away, but given the success of the superhero genre in recent years (especially the MCU), and how deeply entrenched these movies have become in public awareness, I'd say cross-pollination should be avoided when it comes to key players. Now, if Reeves were to cast someone like Hannah John-Kamen as Catwoman, after she was completely wasted in Ant-Man and the Wasp, I wouldn't bat an eye.

Given that almost every time there's a fan casting forum for an upcoming release of any movie, the suggestions typically made are dominated by white male or female actors, it's refreshing to see some element of diversity is becoming more of the norm. With that being said, I don't really like any of the options presented except Gugu Mbatha-Raw—she was great in Black Mirror.

Logan Browning is a choice.

Goodness gracious.

Yes as everyone pointed out, she has the 'cat eyes'. It seems like she's everyone favorite on Twitter.

So I once again made the mistake of wandering over to the DC Cinematic Reddit, and.... yeeeeeeah.

On the Logan Browning front, Dear White People was just renewed for a fourth and final season. So it's worth considering the scheduling for that.

A truly weak list. Hopefully nobody from that list is cast in the role.

Goodness gracious.
She has the best look for the part without a doubt. Im not familiar with her acting, but when she really has the right look for it

I'm sure some people will complain that Logan is no A-Lister and that she was never in big movies. But that's what I like about her. She's a fresh face and she looks the part.

Looking at the shortlist be like...

I like all of these names but I do find it kinda funny that two of the actresses on the shortlist kinda got their big breaks playing the same character.

My thinking as well

Sigh... diversity and PoC means more than black and white. But going with this list...
Only Gugu or Logan. Logan, because she's new blood and I'm tired of the same old people over and over again, and Gugu, because I've been rooting for her since Belle and she's hasn't had a good hit yet. Her best his was an episode in a Netflix tv series. Give her this.

Sorry Lupita. You may be one of the most gorgeous women in the world, but I don't feel it.

This casting suggestion is growing on me. I'm going to have to check out The Perfection and the Dear White People TV show.

Tessa Thompson plays a major character for the competition. Not happening. Same goes for Lupita. Gugu I still feel like they want an actress younger than Rob, so that eliminates her. That brings us down to Logan Browning and Alexandra Shipp. Browning has no franchise ties while Shipp was in the Fox X-Men movies so it's basically the same thing as the decision on Batman. If that shortlist is true, I have to think Logan Browning is who gets the part.

I still think Janelle Monae’s likely somewhere in the mix too, but I certainly wouldn’t be upset by either Logan Browning or Gugu nabbing the part too.

I will say that Logan definitely looks the most like Selina of the potential contenders that seem to be in play now and her acting definitely seems solid too based on the clips I’ve seen of her in Dear White People and The Perfection.

I am rooting for Logan! Not only is she beautiful, but she's a great actress. I have watched her on Dear White People and Hit the Floor she definitely has the finesse, attitude and charisma to play Selina. For those of you that don't know she is biracial about 5'3/5, has been acting for awhile she appeared in a Tyler Perry sitcom on TBS. I hope she gets it because has a terrific range and needs her big break in Hollywood.

Gugu never wins these casting face offs lol. I'm rooting for her though.

I read Polito' shortlist for Bruce and Robert wasn't in it. I'm sure Logan, and Gugu are on the list but I'm curious to know who else is that he hasn't mentioned.
