The Catwoman/Selina Kyle Casting Thread - Part 2

I already know Selina can look good in a dress.

I am talking more about the energy or attitude she has as a character. Armas doesn't fit that to me, no matter how hot she looks.

She's more of a Talia to me than a Catwoman.

The purpose of sharing those images wasn't to illustrate how good Selina looks in a dress, although she most certainly does, but to show that she can easily take on the role of a classy socialite or what have you should the need arise. Like I said, she's versatile in that sense. I have to wonder how much you really know about the character if you think she isn't in the same league as a Bond girl. lol Granted, she wasn't born with a silver spoon in her mouth, but that doesn't make her any less cultured or sophisticated.

A woman this familiar with classic opera clearly isn't just trash if that's what you're suggesting.

Heh. If Pfeiffer is considered the best version for said character, we are screwed. I'm glad Nolan never went that crazy, nor Reeves will go that in your face type crazy version of the character.

I don't see the appeal of Armas now honestly because besides Knives Out and Blade Runner 2049 is she even that great of an actress honestly? I mean yeah she has the look but her look is too exotic for Selina. If anything she has that Tate Nolan/Talia Al Ghul look about her. Probably looks more believable as Ra's Al Ghul's daughter than as Selina Kyle.

I think her look varies from artist to artist. Some draw her more like Jaimie Alexander, which I imagine is more to your preference (I'm fond of that look for Selina myself, so I hear you), but it's worth noting that other artists have been known to depict her more "exotic looking", to borrow your vernacular. Joelle Jones, for instance, has a tendency to go back and forth. During her tenure on Tom King's Batman, she was clearly inspired by Anne Hathaway's take on the character, but since moving on to her own Catwoman book, she's started to draw her more like this. It wouldn't be too much a stretch to say that de Armas resembles the latter depiction.

While I would argue that Phiefer's is, I think, more strongly acted and constructed as a character, I think of Hathaway's as arguably a more direct comic adaption.

Is it any more wrong than not wanting Bruce to sound british. Personally the accent isn't something I prefer.

You do realize that de Armas is an actress, right? If she's good enough at her profession, there's no reason why she won't be able to conform to whatever the script demands of her.

There's nothing to suggest she isn't right for the part. Also, to your previous point, I wouldn't equate Selina's class/elegance to the "playboy Bruce" persona. For her, I think it's more of an inherent quality. She's just multifaceted if that makes any sense.

If WB really does end up filling the role w/ an A-lister, that tells me the studio will likely never go for an unknown, as this would be the fourth time they've gone with a familiar face.

Even on Legion (which is the only place I saw her in) she kinda verged on being one-note. Heck, the way she played Lenny in most scenes of season 3 was pretty much the same way she played Farouk, just with different dialogue. I don't think she's a bad actress at all, I just think that next to the likes of Pattinson, Wright and Jonah I'm not sure she can give Selina the depth that character needs. She's one of those actresses that only plays different versions of herself.

I'd say it depends on the extent to which an up-and-comer is known to the general public. But yeah, rising star + familiar face is pretty much the equivalent of entry level A-lister by today's standards.

Maybe they'll hire an actress from theater like they did with Ray Fisher.
Most of the "scoopers" who reported Selina casting talked about a biracial woman like Zoe Kravitz, a black woman. Which makes sense considering Eartha Kitt was an iconic Selina. So I doubt Ana is even a front runner.

Same but we know that Hollywood standards for 'woc' are mostly light skinned black women right now. Which is already an improvement from 10 years ago but it's still very limited. And that's why we end up fancasting the same girls every time we hear woc: it's a circle from Zendaya, Gugu, Zoe Kravitz to Zazie.
I doubt Sonoya will even be considered and after seeing most of the fancasts, I almost want an unknown, like Daisy Ridley before SW.
