The Clinton Thread II

According to Reuters, Chelsea Clinton was recently appointed to the board of IAC/InterActiveCorp.

Anyone think Hilary may be done as Secretary of State if Obama is re-elected?

I think she's said as much. I could be wrong though...

Former President Clinton will be on The Late Show with David Letterman tonight.

I would gladly vote for Hillary again.

No surprise there. It's not like the GOP field is that enthusiastic to begin with, I think a lot of Democrats are having buyers remorse with Obama, and of course the center-left pragmatic Clintons are still looked rather fondly upon by independents. Hell, even I, who does not agree with Hillary Clinton politically will commend her for a least knowing how to do her damn job.

POLL: HILLARY WOULD CRUSH REPUBLICAN OPPONENTS IN 2012 IF SHE WAS THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE

If only... :csad:

The grass is always greener....

Let me put it this way, she doesn't have a a record to run on as POTUS. In a clean race between Clinton and Romney, she'd crush him (same with McCain). However, if she had been the one to push for HCR and if the economy was still over 9--or 8--percent unemployment and she was POTUS, she'd be in a very similar situation. Though she probably would have browbeat Boehner until he cried a small pond into passing a "grand bargain," as she loves partisan fights much like Bill did so many years ago.

I voted for Hillary and still wish she had been the nominee. It's always hard to say what would have happened had she been president but I do not believe she would have caved in as much as Obama has. I also think she would never have allowed Nancy Pelosi to hijack the beginning of her presidency.

...and the fights with Boehner would have been epic! :funny:

I dunno, I think that Clinton would have a better chance for re-election under this economy. Hillary is a lot like her husband and her battles with the Republicans back under the Clinton Administration from Hillarycare to the Lewinski scandal has given her a lot of hardened experience. I think she would have done a much better job in vilifying the Republicans than Obama is. And I think a lot of the messes that happened under the Obama Administration would not have happened period under Hillary's eyes.

Everything else I totally agree with you though. She would crush Romney and would have made Boehner cry a small pond into a grand bargain in particular. Republicans, Boehner in particular, know that facing the Clintons has dire political consequences.

I just heard that Chelsea Clinton will be a correspondent for NBC News. I'm not quite sure how she's qualified for it but...

God I hope this is accurate. I would love to say goodbye and good riddance to this self centered moron.

http://slatest.slate.com/posts/2012...s_she_won_t_return_as_secretary_of_state.html

Hillary Clinton suggested Thursday that she has no plans to stay on as secretary of state, even if President Obama wins re-election this November, and likewise is ready to bring her lengthy and historic career in politics to an end.

USA Today reports the former first lady and U.S. senator told a town hall for State Department employees on Thursday that she would "certainly" stay on until Obama would be able to nominate her replacement, but that "after 20 years, and it will be 20 years, of being on the high wire of American politics and all of the challenges that come with that, it would probably be a good idea to just find out how tired I am."

Still, she did appear to hint at the possibility that her political career could have at least one more act, drawing laughs from the crowd by telling them that "everyone always says that when they leave these jobs."
A few political observers have floated the idea that Clinton should challenge Obama in the primary this year, while others—like the New York Times's Bill Keller—have suggested that Obama should move Vice President Joe Biden over to the State Department and replace him with Clinton on the 2012 Democratic ticket. Clinton and her adviser have repeatedly shot down such speculation, as have many other Democratic insiders.

Hillary Clinton is one of the most intelligent and respected female political figures out there. It will be a sad day when she finally decides to leave the political world.

The board monster must've acted up when I merged the two posts above into this thread.

*bump*

I find it curious that you despise Mitt Romney and constantly write him off as a slimy, opportunistic politician yet are always the first to jump to the defense of Hillary Clinton, who is basically the opposite side of the Mitt Romney coin. Her entire adult life has been a carefully orchestrated political charade, with everything from her policies to her state of residency to even her marriage being, tweaked, changed, faked and artificially crafted to advance her career. Hillary is the Democratic version of Mitt Romney. And even then, their policies aren't that different. Both are corporatist stooges. Hell, the Clintons sold America out more than even Ronald Reagan (and that is saying something).

History is not going to be kind to either Clinton, IMO.

Hillary is an opportunistic liar, that's about her best side. Her gone would be one of the bad guys leaving the stage. I'll have a beer happily when I never have to hear about her again.

Matt's right, history will not be kind to either of them nor should it be.

I really doubt history will remember any of these people. A bunch of Hayes, Pierces, and Harrisons. If you don't know who those three are, they were presidents at some point.

These last three presidents will be lucky to have a school named after them twenty years from now.

Obama is the first black president. He'll be remembered.

Bush will be remembered as he was a wartime president.

Clinton will probably be remembered least of the three. His sex scandal is the most memorable event of his presidency, sadly. Him selling out America via NAFTA and basically everything else will just be lost to history.

As for Hill-dog, no one remembers losers. She will be like Geraldine Ferraro, remembered only by historians and trivia buffs.

Who were you rooting for prior to Obama's nom? Always been curious.

He isn't. He's the first half-black president. He might get a little asterisk next to his name when a black person is elected president, that people at the time considered him the first.

None of them will be particularly remembered in 25 years, much less in 50 years, and not at all in a 100.

I'll at least give Hillary credit for knowing how to do her job as a Senator. Unlike most New York politicians who pretty much just represent New York City, Hillary actually focused most of her attention on Upstate New York. It was like we actually had a say in the Senate for once.

And then she left :csad: and got replaced by Gillibrand :csad: who became Chuck Schumer's stoogie :csad: and betrayed her moderate principles just so she could avoid a revolt from NYC Democrats :csad:
